Looked back a little further, to 2000, for the hell of it:
2006 Bucs lost opener to the Ravens 27-0. They were coming off an 11-5 season the previous year and finished 4-12.
2006 Raiders lost opener to the Chargers 27-0. They were coming off a 4-12 season and finished 2-14.
2006 Packers lost opener to the Bears 26-0. They were coming off a 4-12 season and finished 8-8.
2003 Patriots lost opener to the Bills 31-0. They missed the playoffs the previous year and rolled to a 14-2 record.
2000 Steelers lost opener to the Ravens 16-0. They were coming off a 6-10 season and finished 9-7 but missed playoffs.
2000 Seahawks lost opener to the Dolphins 23-0. They were coming off a 9-7 season and finished 6-10.
So totaling it up, and including the Rams' 2009 season, here's what we have historically:
7 teams blanked on opening weekend going back to 2000.
1 team went on to the playoffs and Super Bowl victory.
6 teams missed the playoffs.
6.2 is the average amount of wins.
