This is getting ridiculous.
Yeah I'm stoned and it doesn't make senseerrrr, what? So we've had two media people say opposite things now.
Honestly, after reading the rules I'm not sure why they were initially saying he would not count.errrr, what? So we've had two media people say opposite things now.

If a player is placed on this list before the regular season begins, he could miss the entire season unless — per a rules adjustment this year — they are designated to return during the roster cutdown to 53 players after training camp. Teams can designate up to two such players to return.
NFL teams can designate up to eight players to return from IR during the regular season (and up to 10 if they make the postseason) and an individual player can be so designated twice.
Players designated for return from IR before the season count against a team’s eight- or 10-player limit.

To me it seems that any player who is designated to return will count as 1 of the 8.Maybe he has to be in the starting roster on GameDay for it to count?
I believe that the 21 day window had started once they returned to practice. Both Murchison and Williams returned on Wednesday..
I thought they had a 21 day window to determine if they wanted to activate the player?

You need to designate the player to return before the 21 day window opens. Then the team has an option to activate to the 53 or go back to IR.Yeah but that 21 day window is there to see if the team wants to activate the player to the top 53.
You don't have to be activated to the top 53 to count as a designated player to return?

Actually I wondered the same thing. Couldn't really find an answer. I'm guessing it would since the designation comes first, but who knows. But if they don't activate the player does the team still lose the designation?
