Kurt Warner is surely excited to have his improbable journey to NFL stardom chronicled into a movie. It's also safe to say that he is excited about the actor that has chosen to portray him. Warner, a Hall of Fame quarterback who went from a third shift grocery store clerk to a Super Bowl MVP in just a few short years, will see his story come to life in a movie titled "American Underdog," with production on the movie expected to begin later this year. The actor that will play warner is Zach Levi, who recently starred as a DC Comics superhero in the movie, "Shazam!"

"What a crazy, amazing journey this has been," Warner said via Twitter earlier this week. ... "Now I'm going to be played by a Super Hero!! Excited you [Zachary Levi] are taking this ride with us, can't wait to see you deliver our story to the BIG screen!"

The 39-year-old actor expressed his excitement to play Warner via his Instagram account Wednesday afternoon.

"Beyond pumped for this one. Have always found [Kurt Warner], his family, and their journey, to be an uplifting and inspiring one. Can't wait to bring their story to screens both larger and small. Big thanks to [Erwin Brothers] and [Lions Gate] for trusting me with donning lucky No. 13."

Warner was an unknown commodity before taking over for Trent Green before the start of the 1999 season. An undrafted rookie in 1994, Warner played arena football as well as in NFL Europe before spending the 1998 season as the team's third-string quarterback. Warner's experience in the fast-paced, condensed world of arena football paid dividends when he got his opportunity to play in 1999, as he led a fast, explosive Rams offense that averaged nearly 33 points per game during the regular season. That season, Warner led the NFL in completion percentage (65.1) and touchdown passes (41) while becoming the first quarterback in history to throw at least three touchdown passes in his first four career starts. Warner led the Rams to their first Super Bowl victory that season, a 23-16 win over the Tennessee Titans.

The MVP of Super Bowl XXXIV, Warner earned his second league MVP award in 2001 after leading the league in completion percentage (68.7), passing yards (4,830) and touchdown passes (36) while leading the Rams to their second Super Bowl in three years. Warner later enjoyed more success with the Arizona Cardinals, leading the Cardinals to their first Super Bowl appearance at the end of the 2008 season.

Warner's career earned induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017.

I'm still hurt Kurt looks more about being a Cardinal than a Ram due to a bad taste in his mouth but I hope this might add a bit of nostalgia for him back towards the Ram organization.

Even with that being said IDC what others think, he's still one of my favorite Rams of all time, one of the greatest QB's in NFL History, and by far the most incredible story I've ever heard in sports from nothing to Super MVP QB in the Worlds greatest sport. So crazy.

I didn't see that Shazam movie?Any good? That actor looks like he'll be a great fit to portray Kurt, wonder who plays Brenda or Coach Vermeil?

Yeah Kurt and his love for the Cards really pisses me off. Makes me feel like the jilted GF or something. But I will be there watching this with tears I'm sure.

Great fucking choice of actor to play him btw. Dude looks a lot like him. And for me the hope is the storyline ends with him winning SB 36 with us.

Looks like Kurt.

I don't really care about the movie. I know most of what happened. I guess it can inspire some young fans that weren't around at the time. Kurt was the man. Very disappointed when he got benched and let go. I was glad he made a comeback. I'm not so happy about the fact that he seems himself as a Cardinal and not a Ram. Just weird.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good Hollywood ending !! 2 SB victories are better than one !!!

I'd like to see a version where Tom Brady loses SB 36 and during the credits we see him stacking shelves at a Grocery Store ... and Kurt flips him a quarter.

I’d rather they cast someone less by looks and more by an ability to throw.
More sports movies are ruined by obviously non athletic actors than anything else.

Well that and shitty stories.

the best part about his story is how everyone dismissed and rubbished him after the 2002 season for the next five years, until he crossed paths with whisenhunt and the magic started again. then he led the deadbeat cardinals to the superbowl. you can't make that shit up.

Looks like religion is going to be pretty prominent:

Kingdom Story acquired Warner’s life rights, and the screenplay is based on interviews with Warner and his memoir, All Things Possible: My Story of Faith, Football and the First Miracle Season.

Kingdom Story Company (formerly known as Kingdom Studios), is an American film and television studio in partnership with Lionsgate specializing in the production of Christian films. It was founded in 2018 by the Erwin Brothers (Jon and Andrew Erwin), Kevin Downes, and Tony Young and has operations in Nashville, Tennessee and Los Angeles, California.

Sauces:

Hope they can find a hot C-lister to play Brenda - yeah someone who totally does not look like her.

I’m pretty sure this is why they call it acting? Tom Cruise at 5’ 2” is not going to beat the shit out of 3 dudes at the same time unless they are midgets. Even then, midgets are pretty fucking strong. :ROFLMAO:

FWIW I don't have a problem with Kurt's affinity for the Arizona Cardinals because I would keep asking him a couple of questions. Who did you win a Super Bowl with? And who were you the Super Bowl MVP for? How about those Cardinals, Kurt?

I will watch the movie a ton, I have watched the movie 42, close to 50-60 times so I expect I will watch this one even more. Wonder if they will get Greg Kinnear to play Dick Vermeil, he's done it once.

Kinnear would be a perfect choice to play Vermiel again. How about John Goodman for Martz?

Acting doesn’t overcome lack of athleticism though. Baseball movies that come to mind with a completely awful attempt at looking like an mlber are the cheesy chick flick with Freddie Prinze and Jessica Biel, Michael Okeefe in the Sluggers wife looked like he couldnt even hit a ball off a tee (unless it was a golf ball) much less hit a home run, and the king of terrible performances, the Jimmy Piersal movie with Anthony Perkins was so bad....
Only thing saving Nuke Laloosh from being on the list was that there was a comic effect to his release. Still though, Robbins was terrible

Oh and those who are thinking, “Who the heck watched a Freddie Prinze movie anyway???”, I submit to you Jessica Biel.....
