Reminds me of the 1988 Dodgers. They just always found a way to win. It was all worth it and they can never take it away from us. What a season!
FWIW if I was Dennis Eckersley and the only guy who had power on that team limped up to the plate I would have thrown a low fastball right at his legs and if Gibson was still able to stand, made sure i hit him on the next pitch...Then I would have dealt with the guy on deck hitting .188.

I am a Dodger fan and I was in the Air Force back then and I remember saying to everyone in the dayroom, if they pitch to him, it's gone. What a great moment.

I was at a friends house that game watching with my two drinking buddies. All three of us were big Dodger fans. When he hit that HR we almost brought the house down with the yelling and high fiving. The next day my buddy said his neighbor asked how many people he had there because it sounded like twenty people celebrating.

4th and 1 on the 30: Kupp puts team on his back. McVay's balls clanking, BTW. All hail the Breakfast Club for getting down the timing on this one.

And mine were clenched like no other watching it live.

  • (1:44 - 4th) (Shotgun) M.Stafford pass short right to C.Kupp for 4 yards, TOUCHDOWN NULLIFIED by Penalty. Penalty on LA-R.Havenstein, Offensive Holding, offsetting, enforced at CIN 4 - No Play. Penalty on CIN-V.Bell, Unnecessary Roughness, offsetting.

I forgot about this one.

  • (3:06 - 4th) (No Huddle, Shotgun) M.Stafford pass short middle to C.Kupp to CIN 24 for 22 yards (J.Bates III)

The insane no look pass. OMG. Speechless.

This will be one of those moments forever in SB history. Like the David Tyree catch.

Nice to have a thread acknowledging the greatness of the current Rams.

Best play in drive was the 4th and 1 call by McVay and execution by Kupp. Dangerous play but McVay knew when the game was on the line he knew he could count on Stafford and Kupp on that play super gutsey call and an amazing TE block to keep the defender on the outside edge and not blow the play up.

Second best play was the no look pass but more on Stafford to thread that pass which had zero margin for error and being a no look made it harder.

All phases of that Kupp season where the hallmarks of the greatest wr season ever. The numbers 8n the season the TB catch, the Superbowl being taken over by your clutch player etc.

after the bullshit higgins td the bengals deserved nothing less than what happened to them inside their 5 yard line.

.
That was a 10 point non-call. The Bungles don't get the subsequent FG if they don't kick off after the fraudulent TD because Stafford would not have been throwing the ball from his own end at that point.

Gibson could barely swing a bat. I was hoping for a looping single to score Davis from second to tie the game.

If it was a sharp single - he would have been thrown out at first lol

No way was I expecting a home run.

I was kinda surprised they didn't walk him after Davis stole second.

I'm no longer a Dodger fan, but that moment in the 9th inning with 2 outs and a hobbling Gibson coming to the plate to hit the homerun off Dennis Eckersley, was as big of a moment as Kurt hitting Ike for a TD in Super Bowl 34. I still remember seeing all of the brake lights in the parking lot peeking through the crevices of the stadium, as Gibby ran around the bases, pumping his fist. That HR broke the spirit of the Invincible A's (104 wins, I believe) and the best closer of the game that year.

Should have ended there with that epic TD catch. No flags.

That is where the Bengal fans were crying foul. Not so much that it wasn't a penalty. It certainly was. But they felt because they got away with it multiple times earlier it shouldn't have been called in that situation. Crazy argument if you ask me. The PI they also complaint about was so blatant there were multiple flags on that one.

I think the Bengals were emboldened from getting away with it most the game they just kept pushing the envelope. Refs finally said enough is enough. I suppose they knew it was their only chance. Trying to guard Kupp without contact would be impossible.

If Tee Higgins didn't get that cheap TD by grabbing the facemask of Ramsey, the Rams win in a cakewalk. Our defense, minus that one play, was like a brick wall.

Below, a link to the Rams game winning drive in SB 56. Never gets old...!

A couple impressions a year-and-a-half later...

Whole game came down to McVay deciding to go for it on fourth and 1 at his own 30 with five minutes left. What a great gutsy call. Looking to WIN it. Willing to take the heat if it goes wrong.

We didn't fully appreciate the no-look pass until afterwards. During the game, from a distance, it was pretty subtle. Had to watch it later in close-up slo-mo to appreciate how insanely bad-ass it was. Filthy!!

Rob Havenstein with a clear hold, IMO, to negate the "first" Kupp game-winner. The Bell helmet-to-helmet hit was so nasty. How many times does Kupp have to win the game for us?

Ramsey on the sideline watching the drive, eyes as big as saucers. AD on the sideline looking eerily calm, knowing he's gonna close out the game by dominating.

Got tense just watching the damn thing... again.

Thank you Rams
