It ain't easy to find an upgrade replacement this time of year. Even a kicker. Maher is not a good field goal kicker. But even if he makes all 3 kicks we still lose 24-23. They wouldn't be going for two if he makes the first PAT. Which would still leave them at 17 points.

So its not like he left 7 points off the board. We were still going to lose because the defense couldn't prevent a weak offense from scoring with ease. And the offense couldn't limit the mistakes that killed drives. I have a feeling this is going to be a common theme this season.
2 missed field goals and 1 missed PAT = 7 points. I understand your point about the 2 point conversion though and the defense not stopping that joke of an offense. The problem is both missed FG put the squealers in great field position. I have been watching football for 35 years and if there is one thing that remains true is that missed field goals in tight games are momentum killers and inspiration for the other team.

But there are more problems here than just missed FGs and PATs.

#1. Coming out in shotgun on the first play of the 2nd half was a TERRIBLE play call especially when they had success running the ball in the first half.

#2. Stafford’s decision to throw that ball straight to Watt was terrible.

#3. The Rams don’t have any home games. They are the away team in every game and it sucks.

I have been a displaced Rams fan since 85 and would LOVE to live in the same city and be a season ticket holder. I live in Tennessee and drove up to St. Louis 2, sometimes 3 times a year to watch them even in the bad years.

Kid on the Niners just missed another kick. We better jump on Gould before Rat Boy has him signed to the active roster tomorrow.

There's that kicker the Rams were supposed to draft missing another kick with Niner fans calling for him to be cut :D

I'd rather wait and sign Moody, there isn't shit available right now worth it. He at least has potential. Let the Whiners make a mistake and we can benefit from it like Tampa did with Matt Gay. Probably the best scenario.

So... do ppl really want 40-year-old Robbie Gould for his 19th season? Regardless of what his salary demands might be? And regardless of him being a prick? And the 49er stank still on him? :laugh1:

Because mcvay stupidly got rid of a good kicker. Because he wanted to be cheap.

Hell nah. I'm 100% with you on this. I hated that cocky prick with a passion.

The 49er stank washed off Jeff "Money" Wilkins. But he only played two seasons for that abhorrent organization. Redemption was still feasible.

We'd need a really good fucking exorcist for Robbie.
And it does appear he's a free agent because he's not going to be cheap. He's consistent though and doesn't get the yips. We already have Evans doing kickoffs.

Yips "Just a bit outside" Mahar has got to go.

Two of those missed FGs were hardly gimmies. They were 50+ yards. Challenging even if definitely makable.

But Maher's body of work has not inspired confidence. Lots of shaky looking kicks and more misses than you'd like, even from make-able range. His body language depicts a lack of confidence - and so I suspect his teammates and coaches are struggling to find confidence in him, as well. Plus, the baggage from his Dallas PAT misses will always be lurking in the back of minds. We need to look elsewhere.

We are realistically not going to compete this season, so I don't see the harm in starting the new kicker experiment immediately. It could take time to find a strong kicker. Start ASAP so we can get it right for 2024-25 and beyond. Another Matt Gay find would be great. There are some intriguing names out there, so as we look for a permanent replacement, I don't think we'll lose too much quality at the position. It would be unlikely a kicker search sees the Rams compromising wins along the way. What Maher is bringing is very, very meh.

You are forgetting that when he misses a long fg the opposing team takes over from the spot.

Sam Sloman.

Kai Forbath. (From 2020, I'd forgotten about him).

Sam Ficken.

Careful for what you wish for.

Sorry to re-traumatize, but people gotta remember it CAN get worse.... :sick2:

He's better than Maher and that's all that matters. If Ike can play for the Niners then any Niner can play for the Rams, except for Greenlaw of course.

I think the reality is that we can't afford anyone else. Maher is ok. We're not all in to run for the SB this season.
