Kendricks fined for blind side block

We would have scored on that possession and won the game without a doubt. We seem to get a momentum swinging penalty every game. Check it:
Vs Minn- Brian Quick catches a 17 yard pass and gets flagged for an offensive FACEMASK. Which gets called like once a decade. We get at least a field goal on that drive and the outcome is completely different.
Vs Dallas-Eugene Sims gets called for personal foul when he sacks Tony Romo. Would have been 4th down and we probably go into the half up 21-3. Later in that same game he gets called for holding on another sack that would have gave us the ball around the 50 with just enough time to score and win the game.
Vs 49ers- Everyone remembers the phantom OPI call against Cook. Totally changed the game.
Vs Chiefs- EJ Gaines gets called for DPI as he picks off an Alex Smith pass and returns it for a would be touchdown.
I know "good teams overcome penalties". But find me another team to have to do it this many times.

Personally, I don't miss the football of the 70's and 80's, not because I wasn't alive to witness them, but because the quality of life those men "enjoy" today and how they have to watch their buddies die and suffer from horrible diseases like dimensia, alzheimers, ALS, and the like. The steps the league has taken over the past decade, especially with the advent of concussion protocols and the like have done more good for the players than anything in the league's history, and that should be applauded.

Having said that, what Kendricks did was not only legal and not a penalty, but it is how the game should be taught! He faces up his man, hits him in the chest, blocks downfield for his receiver which is a lost fricking art, and finishes his block THROUGH the man's chest, which is football 101. The fact that a penalty was called, subsequently not picked up, could not be challenged (which I HATE), and then the offending player was fined for it is the tragedy, not the spirit of the rules.

The spirit of the rules is adding years and quality of life to men who, not ten years prior, were shooting themselves in the chest with a shotgun to preserve their brains for science (Seau).

The enforcement of the rules is deplorable.

I agree, I also think that Goddell had found a nice middle somewhere along the lines, but instead of standing pat he got antsy, started adding in things that weren't necessary or just generally sticking his nose in when he didn't need to and things started spiraling into the joke it is today.

The rule changes and additions to insure the safety of the players aren't inherently the problem, it's the enforcement and the tweaking of things that don't change anything but confuse and grey the rules even further that ruin everything. Goddell's biggest problem is that he's a busy body that can't leave well enough alone.

I had forgotten that Fisher agreed with the call. I believe he said they would call that a penalty 50% of the time (99.875% against the Rams)

actually it was for "holding a receiver" ,which to me is the most hilarious thing i've heard yet...and it was at that point i really began to question the legitimacy of the refs... never really bought into the whole conspiracy nonsense, but that game made me go from "impossible" to "unlikely" .. such a disparity in calls from first to 2nd half

Yes it may be sooner than that! The NFL @ this very moment is not PC! Its under attack by the very sport talking heads who earn a living from the NFL. Just makes me :sick:

It's because it was a helmet to helmet according to Fisher. If he had went low, it was legal.

I disagree........... this kind of discussion always stems from a shitty call from a referee....... that's the problem shitcalls from referees, the rules are fine.

Fisher said after watching it on tape that it was a good call...It was certainly a momentum changer, one way or the other...If the league didn't think it was an illegal block, I don't think they would have fined him...
 
That is how they do it anyway. Not all fines are equal and it is adjusted according to the severity of the violation. So yeah. But I still don't see where the two hits are comparable. I also think that if you are going by the letter of the rule, the blocked player was not defenseless. If as Fisher intimated, there was helmet contact, then I can see a penalty flag being thrown but still don't see a fine. Fines are intended to penalize players for either wreckless disregard, or malicious intent. They are not always issued and there are certainly levels to be considered. If a player launches his helmet into a player he clearly knows is unaware - as was the case with Tate - you absolutely go after him with a harsher fine. I don't even understand the thought that all fines for a given penalty should be the same. That'd be like saying there should be no difference between shop lifting and grand theft when doling out penalty.
