I have never before and I probably never will again utter these words:

Keith Olbermann, I am your biggest fan!!!!

That's likely a one-time-only deal so enjoy while it lasts.

I disagree 100%. Sports is integral in all of American life.
It is entertainment, but at the same time it reflects our social realities and yes, it CAN and SHOULD be used as a vehicle to advance changes in social norms.

And of course, this from the Rams last year:

Athletes do not provide any tangible contribution to the economy beyond their ability to make people want to see them. People who cover sports for a living have a similar issue - they contribute nothing substantive or real to the economy, they help people form and sometimes change opinions about things. The essence of freedom is the ability to speak one's mind without interference from the power structure that may not like what they have to say. Now, once the GOVERNMENT starts banning speech we are all well and truly fucked, because then the right to free speech is gone. But advocating for people to "toe the company line" or "keep politics out of sports" is an insidious step onto the slippery slope that ends with government regulation of what is allowed to be said and what is punishable by imprisonment or worse.

Exercise your own freedom by CHOOSING not to watch, listen, read or click...fine by me...everyone MUST have that right.
But advocate for people to not do or say something because you might find it personally offensive or unnecessary? NO. That is a bridge too far.
Sports has been a heavy conduit for racial tolerance over the years. It's a common denominator, with many people whom come from all walks of life.

That being said. I couldn't care less about Olberman or espn.

Olbermann is a very stupid man, nothing he says should ever be taken seriously.

The first thing that comes to mind when Olbermann is on the air is "dick with ears". He should stay gone. Now if they could wedge a meat flute in Bob Costas' mouth, we'd be golden.

Greatest irony was when Olbermann sued Al Gore, who employed Olbermann at Current TV, before the two got into an ego-war, which eventually went into a court battle for $50M.

I doubt this applies to Olberman but history often treats these outspoken controversial figures pretty well. Muhammad Ali and Howard Cosell come to mind.
Ali refused to go to Vietnam, lost his title over it, and threw his Olympic Gold metal in the drink. He didn't just talk the talk. I have the utmost respect for Ali. Greatest sports figure ever.

Personally I don't have one issue with Olberman ripping that POS Goodell and have a positive outlook on him as a reporter. But to be fair I've only heard and seen his videos ripping Goddell so never have read or watched anything else from him unusually.

I started really watching sports news because of Olbermann & DP....It was different...Stu Scott locked me in on ESPN, and I'm sure a bunch of journalism majors came from viewing this new style of delivery.....Can't blame him if his platform is so large that people wanna hear what he thinks about Goodell....

Stuart Scott was a fucking boss. I was saddened by his death.

IMO he was every bit as important as anyone you can name to the growth of ESPN, we all liked watching and listening to him because he was different and he knew what he was talking about. He was entertaining but smart. There wasn't anyone like him.

Only programming of theirs I like and watch is Baseball Tonight and NFL games... Baseball Tonight is just outstanding and their NFL coverage is good I have to admit. But that's it, what with the FOX NFL pregame being my preference during football season and Fox Sports West for the Kings and Angels.
The only thing - and I mean only thing - I watch on ESPN is 30 on 30.

And he was vilified for it at the time. I'm sure some still hate him for what he did. But for most he's a hero and an American great. Now Keith Olbermann is certainly no Muhammad Ali (not even Howard Cosell) but my point is history often treats those who stand up for what they believe a lot better than they're treated in their own time...

Got to shake Ali's hand once. This must have been around 1970 when I was a journalism student at San Jose State and Ali did a speech there. He was gracious to everyone and very patient and funny that day. I've been a big fan of his ever since. There was a drunk there who pushed the crowd and challenged him to a fight. Ali laughed and said, "You're one crazy white man."

I remember listening to his first fight with Sonny Liston on the radio. It was a shock to me and probably many when he won.

The fight starts at 12:00

Please just :stop:.
Man.... so true. Just GTFO with your self righteous pontificating. You are supposed to be reporting on sports. What about that suddenly makes you an authority on anything?

That is mainly what I can't stand about the dickhead Olbermann. He fancies himself so enlightened when in reality, he is an elitist, smug, little man who would be virtually unknown if not for his former ability to talk sports. I can take people I don't agree with but that A-hole makes me want to put my foot in his pie hole every time he says anything because it always comes with a heavy dose of Iknowbetterthananyone. Few get my bile working more than that POS.

But what the heck... I'm sure those jackwagons at MSNBC will take him back.

I can't stand Olbermann. I'd be fine never seeing that jackass ever again.
