The interesting piece is Lake. If McDuffie is the star role, then what's their plan with Lake.
I'm eager to see what he can do in a pairing. We know he can do those classic SS type things like covering the TE or filling vs the run. How does he look ranging deep, and will we see some of that. It's going to be interesting.
And I hope the Rams still plan on adding another corner. One more solid and dependable option should round out that room, and from there maybe just add a late round depth option or invite a ton of UDFAs to find it.

These are all of his NFL snaps:
2025: 479 wide snaps, 179 slot
2024: 953 wide snaps, 152 slot
2023: 368 wide snaps, 608 slot
2022: 536 wide snaps, 247 slot
66% of his snaps have been outside the hash.
He exceeds at the slot position, not so much out wide. Which is why in 2023 when he played the most al slot snaps he was first team all pro. Im pointing out we have three guys on fhe team who play best at the slot position. Some were speculating that lake was gonna roll over to safety. Now that we signed curl thats not happening. Im interested in how this secondary is going to shape up.
A very, very reasonable contract for one of the best run defending safeties in the NFL that is solid in coverage in well. 12M per puts him at only the 19th highest paid safety in the league with an ever expanding salary cap. Awesome news!

I get that he was all-pro in '23 but he's played very well every year, including his out wide snaps. And the fact remains that 2/3rds of his snaps have been out wide. The Rams don't pay that price in draft picks and wouldn't give him the rumored $30 mil/year if they planned on playing him mostly in the slot. That would be a massive overpay on both counts.
He will primarily play outside the hash for us, but will also be moved around ala Ramsey and his KC usage.
Great resign! If the Horns are All In on a Super Bowl run, you want to hold onto your infield contributors if you can. Having to integrate someone new into the secondary, may cause chemistry issues for as long as half the season.

Love this signing. He signed with us when he was twenty-four. He’s in his prime, and he’s a key piece in our secondary.

One less hole and we keep a very good player for reasonable contract.
Not suggesting the Rams could not up-grade at several positions (Cornerback #2 ... Off-Ball-Linebacker) but ... at this moment ... is there a single starting position that is open for the 2027 Team?

Curl makes way more splash plays than anyone ever remembers. And he can hit and tackle. Fair money. Good signing! The safety room was never the problem. The corners were. Glad to have him back.
Must admit that given the deep safety draft class I didn't expect Curl to get that much.
Maybe he learned a lesson from his last venture into free agency to strike while the iron is hot instead of getting a lesser deal later.

I like your thinking but would add the you can potentially draft a stud WR right the way through to and past pick 93 - it’s that deep of a position.

CORRECT. Curl was on the field 99.1% of the time. 2 sacks, 2 picks, 2 TFL, 5 PD. Hell, I don't know how he "disappeared" but for my money, he was an asset. Then in the postseason he makes the biggest play of the year. Clearly, they don't believe he "disappears".

Yeah I didn't care for the signing. Curl is a JAG imo. But continuity is a good thing I guess.
