Looking at overthecap.com it appears that all this cap space the Rams were supposed to have has vanished.

Team Cap Space: $34,376,522

And this is before Stafford's upcoming raise and monies set aside for draft choices.
That's still plenty of cap space, particularly in light of the likely D-Will cut and the ability to move money around. I also doubt Stafford getting a raise will worsen our cap situation.

Really do like your offseason FA signings. We really needed a vet swing OT as we all remember the Humphries disaster. Watson would be a dream signing for us. Likely makes us even more scary in the pass game, an upgrade on what we have currently.

I seriously doubt the Rams would take an off ball linebacker that high in the draft. Just monetarily, its not terribly wise. Rodriguez in the 2nd or even a trade back at 29 makes a lot more sense to me. I do like Styles though, just would much rather grab a CB/WR as those are very highly paid positions and big needs for us. I'm also not as high on Cencepcion as you, he's good, but I think a 2nd rounder.

Mohammad is the pick I LOVE. Think he is a future stud. I too need to do more study on most of the rest of the draft, but like the Kamara pick.

Gentry seems like he will get tossed around in the NFL, boy is bone thin and tall. Pretty dang effective in college, don't think he will be in the NFL, but just my opinion.

Great mock offseason

I'm really warming up to the idea of taking Styles at 13. With what's effectively a bonus pick, you gotta get a difference maker in the top 15. Styles is a weapon. 6'5 240 lbs with safety coverage skills and a fantastic blitzer. A force multiplier that will make the entire defense better. Spend 29 and 61 on corners, this D will cook.

I generally don't like ILB picks in the first round, but Styles is worth it. He fills a huge need, is arguably the BPA, and has the potential to be one of the best ILBs in the game. We're talking a guy who has the size and athleticism to matchup with the best TEs in the NFL, can run sideline to sideline, can bang between the tackles, and rarely missed tackles this year. He's a bit of a unicorn.

excellent. Hope he's there! will be interesting if the Rams see it the same way. But I think you may be right--take away the short passing game & we will k*ll most of these offenses that hurt us with it.

I was listening to former scout Bryan Broaddus and he thought it odd that Styles wasn't that strong in coverage given his safety background. He also talked about how poorly he took on blocks.

I'd love for the team to add his speed to the defense, but maybe the OSU DT Kayden McDonald that helped keep him clean might be a better option in the 1st round.

They now show $42M. Looks like they increased their estimate of what the cap will be to match closer to what Spotrac shows. I also noticed the Eagles cap space increased by $8M to $18M. They previously were at $10M.

So the Rams will have $50M after D Will is released.

Three positions that are real threats to fall in the early going due to depressed value compared to other positional values are ILB, Safety, and RB. And it just so happens that there are 2 ILBs cited on a lot of mocks early (both Ohio St), as well as a Safety (Downs) and a RB (Love). Also I've heard a couple draft types say that guys who go off at 6 are gonna be similar grade to guys who go off at 15. So with the Rams at 13 it's entirely possible they can benefit from that factor, assuming that stuff is correct and the Rams have these guys graded similarly.

What I'd like to see with ILBs is speed and tackling in space. So if Styles brings those things great. I never really noted his play specifically when I've watched their defense so would have to queue up some games and focus on him.

Ironically enough my favorite player on that defense isn't any of the aforementioned three. It's McDonald. I think he'd be a great fit for our defensive front. But I'd be happy with any of them. I want an elite defense.

I linked a tweet the other day in the draft topic about that very subject. GM's have said this, not publicly of course.

If Stetson wins the job over Levis, we'd roll with Stetson. I disagree that we shouldn't take an ILB in the first. It's a strength of the Draft. If a top ILB falls in our lap, we should take him, whether that's in the first, second, or third round. If I thought Caleb Downs would be available at #13, I'd be all for taking him.
Love Downs.
I don't think he falls to us however.

Would you consider a trade down from 13 if one of the ILB you like drop?

Yeah, I don't see a point in trading down unless a team makes an absurdly strong offer.
Just asking.
I ask because you've said ILB is not a position you value super highly....in terms of using a high pick.
If a couple of these guys fall to a point where it could probable to land one and trade down a few spot, I would do it.

Yeah, I wouldn't tempt fate if a top 10 talent drops to our pick. I still remember us trading down because we thought Bobby Wagner would still be there. Then, Seattle took him, and we ended up with Isaiah Pead.

I think it was Snead who mentioned how the team's make up would change once Stafford leaves. How he said it, I took it as minus Stafford the team would have to look differnt to compete... which to me means with a young QB, it would be time to build a dominant defense to keep a young QB in the game and to survive his rookie mistakes.

So as they look forward and try to balance present vs future, I could see a WR pick early, but that doesn't mean they won't also focus on building up the defense. Obviously Snead pointed out CB is a position of focus, but I could see all three levels on the defense getting addressed.

As for LB I have seen Anthony Hill Jr (Texas) being called the best athlete at the position and maybe in the entire draft. He is rated as an early to mid 2nd rd guy. CJ Allen (Georgia) is rated as a late 1st rd guy.

So if not Styles, those next 2 could be a possibility, especially if they add another 2nd rd pick in a trade down.

Yeah I noticed that too. In a year or two we'll be ready for that young QB if we add a few more pieces this year on D.
