I just saw it was reported by the Rams. Very underrated coach, and generally seemed like a nice guy.

I thought he deserved his own thread.

This is very sad news. God bless his family during this time. He was given the nickname "Robocoach" by Doug Krikorian of the old LA Herald Examiner.
So RIP John "Robocoach" Robinson. You will be missed.

[P.S. I have no idea how or why Krikorian came up with that moniker 'Robocoach'. He never really explained his reasoning. But of course if you read Krik's articles you just went with it.]

RIP John Robinson. I remember you well. You sure could build a really good run game. I also remember a quote of yours. "I don't want my quarterback to lead the league in yards. But I do want him to lead the league in touchdowns". Good advice. Means you had a good run game.

Sad news. Robinson was coach when I started watching the Rams and always seemed to be a genuinely nice guy, as well as an excellent head coach.

My condolences to his family and friends.

My name and my dad’s name is-we’re John Robinson. My dad went to USC, my uncle Ronnie played football for SC when I was little, early 50s. We were hard core USC and Rams fans, so were especially gratified and huge fans of Coach John Robinson.

I was a charter boat captain on Maui in the 70s-90s. Quite often after the pro bowl I would get players on my boat. I couldn’t help but let them know I was a Rams fan and every one of them told me how much respect they had for Coach Robinson and how little they had for Georgia.

First Rams Coach I can remember. Started following the team before his tenure, but he was the coach who stood out to me. RIP

He coached some of my favourite Rams teams. That playoff win over the cowboys when Dickerson literally ran them over was one of our best.

He was unlucky to coach during the 9ers dynasty, in an era of virtually no free agency, with Shaw at the controls
