Hey, I'm all about the numbers. Been fascinated with them since I was a kid. I always told my kids, like my father always told me. Math/numbers are in everything and about everything. But in sports, they're statistics. They can tell us a lot while at the same time, tell us nothing!

My prediction? When we look at Jared Verse wearing #8, we will not think about Sam Bradford.

Via Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com, Troy Aikman and Lamar Jackson are grappling over copyright issues relating to the number they wore on the football field — eight.

Both apparently hold legal protection over some form of the number. Most recently, Jackson opposed Aikman’s attempt to use “EIGHT” on apparel and bags, arguing that it is “likely to cause confusion, or cause mistake, or to deceive” the purchasing public as to whether they’re buying products from Jackson or Aikman.

Jackson’s filing also said he “has expended considerable time, effort, and expense in promoting, advertising, and popularizing the number 8 in connection with his personality and fame” and “is well-known by this number due to his notoriety and fame, along with his promotion of this number in his trademarks and in media coverage.”

Aikman has a beer brand known as “EIGHT.” Jackson sells “Era 8” apparel.

Jackson’s paperwork was submitted on July 9. Aikman’s appeal is due by August 18.

Depending on how things play out, it could make for an awkward production meeting when the Ravens appear on Monday Night Football (where Aikman serves as the analyst) on October 21. And again on November 25.

I hate to even type this but it's been bugging me... 8 still carries the nasty ass stench of failure Bradford left all over it (not to mention guys like Dils and Maddox). Now I know some will start listing greats who have worn that number, starting with Kobe. But football numbers are their own thing to me.

Dickerson had a buddy intervene and tell him he chose a slow ass number. Where is the intervention with Jared Verse letting him know he's wearing a broke ass QB number.

Now of course I don't think there's a curse or anything ridiculous. I'm bored waiting for the season. But it does bug me that he chose 8 which is kind of funny. Figured I'd get over it by now but when I see him in the practice photos wearing it that stank is still there.

Yeah and I agree: 25 is a slow ass number. It's a number you give to a safety or a depth RB who play on teams.
