I’ve read some posters on other boards now predicting an O heavy Rams draft...

He was open for some TDs late in the season so I do agree he can be a deep threat.

But that said I'd like to see more speed added to this unit. We don't have anyone who scares corners. Even if it's just a guy who runs go routes and crossers it would help us. If not we're still gonna be fine but it would be nice to see more threat.
I was waiting to see if someone would respond to @bubbaramfan question, you did well. I feel strongly Jefferson has the ability to be what most in here desire to see from our receiver cadre.

I'm more than content to open the season with Kupp, Woods & Van Jefferson leading the charge, we can get an inexpensive #4 thru free agency or more likely a Day 2 draft pick. Put our dollars towards Center, a good one. jmo.

Enlighten me why Jefferson can't be considered a deep threat. He took the top off at the senior bowl. Because they didn't use him that way his rookie season?

I’d still like a receiver - preferably a tall one - to threaten defenses deep.

Rams have shown interest in Ihmir Smith-Marsette, and he's no slouch at 6'2". He's currently projected as a Day 2 pick.

I would prefer that they draft a Strong OLB! :sneaky:

That said I think that they will go with BPA.

I don't really consider any of those four mentioned players as legitimate 5T guys, not in a Fangio scheme which I more easily adhere to. Basically, I'd like a slightly bigger, stronger and faster Fox, someone in that 275lb. to 285lbs range, a guy better equipped to also add to our pass rush, from both inside & outside. jmo.
McVay did say that he wanted to continue with the "Fangio scheme"...just not sure how it will work with the new DC Morris. You mentioned Fox above ......Fox excelled playing in the "Fangio scheme" much more than Brockers IMO. You sorta eluded that when you jumped on the Fox description. Fox just fits last year's scheme. It would not surprise me at all if Morgan Fox ends up as a Charger. You should know I do agree with you on that. I understand why you would prefer not to see DL'ers like Robinson, Joseph-Day, or Gaines getting a ton of snaps @ the 5 tech post.

Since we now know we have secured one excellent ER in Floyd who fits better. I question now just how much Brockers value is in this system. If a veteran high-cost/salary Ram needs to go Brockers would be who I would try to trade since he, not the best fit. We did see Donald get more snaps than ever @ the 5 tech post last season it worked out well.

Rams seem to be heavy in NT types @ this time. Robinson-Gaines-Joseph-Day & even Brockers have played a ton of snaps @ NT. Not sure what the Org can do about that. They signed Robinson when they thought Brockers departed then Brockers returned. SJD surprisingly has blossomed into a dandy NT being only a 6th rd draft selection. SJ-D sure played with great effort all season long in 2020! Just not sure how the Rams are going to get their $$$ investments out of all those four mentioned DL'ers in 2021.

Gaines has more pass rush in him than SJ-D & Robinson. But he is barely over 6 ft tall. We saw Robinson late in the season work his wingspan into his skills Backpack by knocking the ball down back @ the LOS. That was something not seen by a Ram DL in a long long time.

If I had to guess as to which signed DL'er the Rams have now that can take the place of Fox in the 5 tech reserve post it's Eric Banks 6-5/274. Rams stand a good chance to be forced to go with what they have under contract now.

Speculation on that came right from Jourdan Rodrigue. She said she expects at least three Olinemen to be taken in the draft.

She seems to base it on two things. This draft is deep with interior Olinemen and a new Oline coach.

She mentioned Kromer guys. It seems she thinks some Kromer guys will be phased out. To me that means Allen, Noteboom, Demby, Blythe, maybe even Corbett or Edwards. I think Edwards is the least likely in that group. As we know most Linemen take time to develop and start. So it makes sense if depth guys are the ones to go.

Another point I’ve made before is that Carberry should have some insight into good Olinemen in college, seeing as he’s coming from those ranks. He may have players in mind to fit his scheme.

One of the upshots from getting a coach from college is that they tend to have their ear to the ground for their position and have much better insight as to which guys will translate.

We saw that with Carroll in Seattle and in a bunch of other instances.

I think Carberry is the PERFECT guy for us right now because we need cheap OL and he's gonna be a guy who knows who we should be looking at.

Moreover, due to how many quality guys either sat out or couldn't play due to COVID, having a 2 year ready knowledge of guys at a position is invaluable.

Lastly, if Quinn Meinherz is taken before we go at 57, I'd expect a trade down for more picks... this draft is gonna have gems deep into the 5th round in large part due to so many quality players having sat out and there not being a true Combine...

I don't see us as interested in any of the WRs early, but I keep wondering about Tamarion Terry late in the 3rd round.

I think he might fall because he didn't play this past year and spoke out about his team's transparency with their COVID testing (which I appreciate... we have volumes filled with the shady shit college teams have done just to keep the football juggernaut and its funding going) and some teams still don't realize that they're drafting Gen Z kids who aren't gonna be about that old school shit and a number of programs still shy away from kids like that.

Anyway, he reminds me of a stronger Golladay.

What fans think are weaknesses are not often shared by the coaching staff. We have (MUUUUUUUUCH) better players on defense than offense right now.

Our best players on defense:

AD/Ramsey/Williams/Floyd/Brockers/SJD - all are above average players at worst

A'Shawn/Fuller/Rapp/Hollins - all about average

Lewis/Burgess - potential

Other - Gaines, Obo, Long, Scott, Kiser, Howard, Reeder

Practice squad - Hughes/Deayon/Williams/Copeland/Hoecht

One big mistake fans make is wanting every player to be a star. We have a ton of solid players and PS guys who have shown something to the staff.

Someone pointed out that we draft for the future - that means CB could be high up if they don't anticipate re-signing Williams. ILB or EDGE could be if they want to make this defense even better.

But, the OL is a disaster after this year and if Woods/Kupp were rumored to be moved on from this year, there's little chance we're keeping both next year.

Plus with the investments what they are on defense and with so many players under contract for a few years, makes sense to try to upgrade the offense

Agree, ... and as you likely are already aware, I believe Brockers is obsolete considering we have SJD, Robinson & Gaines to fill the basic part of his mission, and Fox was far superior in 5T. Plus we have another rather large DT type waiting in the wings in Michael Hoecht. The Rams have plenty of interior talent, behind Fox not so much. I've been advocating for moving on from Brockers for a couple years, and was quite angry when they let Saffold walk when a Brockers trade could have easily saved him. Anyway, it's possible someone like Copeland or Banks could step up, but i'd feel a lot better about it if we drafted a higher round 5T DE like a Carlos Basham with our 2'nd round pick, especially now that it looks like we might be able to swing a LT type in the 3'rd round. Basham is a player who should be capable of fitting that Fangio scheme right out of the gate, and the added pass rush ability he offers in combination with Donald, Floyd and whoever we have starting at the other OLB position, it could grow to be pretty devastating. jmo.

Andy comes from an outdated offense so his potential was really limitless.
