The island of Inis Oírr actually, it's off the west cost in Galway Bay. The Isle of Man isn pretty nice, but I think they're technically still under the crown, and we can't be having that now. ;)

Gran is holding up, memory is going so we thought it would be easier to take her to a lifestyle closer to that of when she grew up, which means very slow and old school. Planting in the backyard garden, gathering seaweed, no cars, no takeaway or anything like that, very old school rural island Ireland. Doesn't help the memory really, but she was mostly forgetting English, so allowing her brain to just focus on one language makes her happier. She was convinced that she would catch covid, but the island is so small that anytime the country went into level 5 lockdown there was basically no risk to anyone living there. There was only a couple of hundred of us.

Good afternoon and wow do I even English bro?
need to start proof reading! lol

That's pretty cool being on the westside island! I bet there is a pretty gnarly weather over there taking the brunt of everything across the breath of the Atlantic. It's pretty amazing to hear how they live there, I love those rural communities there in Ireland. I would assume she speaks Gaelic as opposed to English? Happy to here the Covid sounds its held at bay there on the island.

I need to proof read more as well, no judgement here, my English feels like it's down right horrid lately.

We definitely get the wind and that can make some even a little rain feel like it's needling you there, when it's lashing down we would mostly hide indoors. She does speak Irish, yeah, it was her primary language until she was an adult, similar with my mother. It was actually my first language as well, but since I wasn't in a Gaeltacht (areas where Irish is the primary language spoken) like they were English was the one I was more exposed too outside of the home. The island mostly relies on tourism for money, it made things tricky when they shut down the ferry's, but that made it easier for us who lived there full time to know that shortly after they stopped we were able to go out and otherwise do our normal life since nobody was infected. They were even able to get us vaccines, which was nice given the mainland was proper fucked by England not restricting travel to the northern counties.

Believe me I know man! I stayed a few months a few years ago in County Down and visited south some and the ran and wind there pierces your clothes there like ! lol It's pretty amazing, but annoying when you are in the middle of something! haha That's pretty amazing in regards to the language, I didn't know until I visited that Gaelic is a thing there still, I assumed only English was and its interesting some like your Grandmother prefer to only speak it! My grandmother was from proper Ireland to but never knew if she spoke Gaelic as well.

Yeah England cherry ol England. It was crazy there for a bit. How much does a ferry ride cost from or to the island?

I wouldn't be surprised if she spoke a little, it's built into how we speak English, so even if someone isn't fluent, there's usually at least a few things they've picked up.

Depending on the Ferry you take, it usually will run you around €15-20, per trip, I think most offer a round trip rate of roughly €30 for an adult. There is also an airport on each island and you can take a small flight, but I never looked into it so I don't know the cost. I would imagine it wouldn't be worth it to save the time for most though.
