1) During individual drills, the linebackers worked on ripping the ball out of a ballcarrier’s arms, plus the proper way to recover a fumble. Again, it’s late May, but the Rams are clearly putting a high priority on both ball security and creating turnovers.

2) On the other field, receivers and quarterbacks worked on timing routes, with the signal-callers throwing the ball before the receivers came out of their breaks. That’s important to establish that chemistry now so that it looks smooth when there’s an actual opponent.

3) L.A. also worked on red-zone specific routes, like fades and slants. That’s one of the first times we’ve been able to see the club work on those kinds of routes in this offseason program. Worked on the red zone, first time we’ve seen that this week.

4) It’s become the norm, but quarterback Jared Goff and wide receiver Brandin Cooks got their connection going once again. The signal-caller threw a strike to the left sideline for the wideout, who had to climb the ladder a bit to get it. It was a nice throw and catch.

5) Quarterback Sean Mannion made a throw so good to wide receiver Josh Reynolds on the left side of the field that cornerbacks coach Aubrey Pleasant ran over to the signal-caller to congratulate him. The throw was just out of reach for the cornerback and dropped right into the hands of Reynolds.

6) During the 11-on-11 drills, there were points where Goff worked a hard count — inducing some flinching from the defense. That’s another example of a team being able to focus on more advanced aspects of play rather than learning a system during OTAs.

7) The Rams worked on some elements of the red zone in 7-on-7 drills, and Goff threw a few strikes to start the period. The first went to wideout Cooper Kupp in the back of the end zone at about where the goalpost would be. Then Goff found tight end Tyler Higbee on the right side of the end zone after scrambling to his right when the defense’s coverage was tight. It was a pair of strong passes for the young quarterback.

8) During special teams drills, it looked like coordinator John Fassel was practicing kickoffs with the new rules. Players must now begin the play lined up within a yard of the ball to eliminate a running start. That’s what the unit was ostensibly working on during Thursday’s session.

9) In the second 11-on-11 period, Goff completed a pass to wideout Cooper Kupp over the middle that appeared to mildly frustrate cornerback Troy Hill. Hill was matched up with Kupp, who made a move to shake off Hill over the middle. When Kupp made the catch and darted up the field, Hill leaned back with his head looking up to the sky. His body language conveyed, “Man, how did he do that?”

10) The Rams ended the session with some situational work with a two-minute drill. Cornerback Marcus Peters nearly picked off a pass to Cooks on the left sideline, which would’ve given the defense a clear victory in the period. He didn’t end up with the interception, but, as head coach Sean McVay often says, Peters’ presence could definitely be felt on the field.

I really like the addition of Peters right now. As Goff progresses he'll learn to trust his receivers on those tight window throws. However, with Peters, Goff going to learn who to challenge and who not to challenge real fast.

They need to use this more.

My god I don't think I've been more excited for a football season in at least 15 years. There is so much talent on both sides of the ball that they are going to learn a lot off of each other just in practice. Game 1 can't come fast enough. Chucky gonna be on the sideline like

.

i can't wait to see hemmingway play this season. mcvay was shattered when he got injured last season. he will take the carrier role but i'm guessing he will see alot more targets. could be the other missing link, cooks being the actual missing link.

Great posts @OldSchool

This Rams team is taking on a very professional look. Honing their skills. Preparing to be deep at each position. Next level thinking. Chess, not checkers.

You and me both Kutfaulk. I was impressed with Hemmingway at the beginning of TC last year. He was fast, had good hands and looked like he knew how to block. He's going to compete. I look for him to get a lot of targets in pre season.

This is the first time in years that I have felt the utmost confidence that the team is coached well. I can’t wait until the season starts!

That's me on my desktop. But then I'm still running Windows Vista. I guess I'm lucky the computer works at all.

Yeah... I'm on my laptop. Windows 10. But I just had an "update" go through (I had been delaying it for weeks) and ever since... things have been acting weird. Videos not playing and whenever I use my bluetooth headphones , my sound cuts out after a few mins. smh

Hate those updates. If you can't find a solution you might want to try restoring your computer to a date before you updated. That might fix things up.

But before that Google your problem. Many people will have had the same problem and there might be a remedy for it. Google is always your best friend.

If you have any ad blocker, it can mess with videos.

I have it turned off on Firefox and the vids work but (I’m on Mac) on Safari I have the same issue of the endless buffer, first cousin to the spinning beach ball of death.

I notice many of the videos have ads specifically the kind that are 15 secs and can’t be quit, so it may be the ad blocker.

Good luck

Rams Offense Gets Off to Hot Start at OTAs
Posted 17 hours ago

If there was one consistent storyline throughout the first week of Rams OTAs, it was how sharp and crisp the offense looked.

It was clear on the first day, when quarterback Jared Goff made accurate pass after accurate pass — wowing his coaches and teammates in the process.

Goff said himself he thought Monday was “a great first day.” But then that continued throughout the week.

There’s clearly a lot of continuity on the offensive unit, from personnel to the playbook. And that allowed Los Angeles’ players to get together during the offseason to perfect the system on their own.

“I think having come back, having run this offense before, and a lot of the same guys are around, a lot of guys that were here this offseason being able to just be together on our own and go through this stuff,” wide receiver Cooper Kupp said.

The second-year wideout added the players’ mindset was to get to OTAs and see how crisp the offense could be, truly hitting the ground running.

“Our expectations are high and so it’s great to be able to look good out here right now but, when we go back in the meeting room and we’re watching film there is a lot of stuff to correct, a lot of stuff that isn’t up to our standards,” Kupp said. “So, just continuing to correct that throughout the OTAs is going to be huge for us.”

Part of the reason the Rams were able to get together so often in the offseason is because of the franchise’s location.

“Being in L.A. we have the luxury of most guys come here to train anyways, so most of our guys were sticking around here,” Kupp said. "I got to see 10, 15 guys on the offensive side of the ball just about every single day just through training or on our own just going out and throwing. Even if it was just for two days a week, being able to get out there and go through our verbiage, our routes, and just continue to build that chemistry and timing — that’s a big deal when you talk about a whole offseason, four months or so, where you really don’t have anything. That was a big luxury for us.”

That work is starting to pay dividends, and that should continue through the rest of Phase III and into training camp. Effectively, the Rams’ offensive personnel feels like the club has been able to pick up right where it left off in 2017.

“Obviously, getting back out here for the first time you gotta brush some things off,” offensive lineman Jamon Brown said. “But from an offensive standpoint, it does feel like we’re in better spot. We are picking up from where we left off last year. I think that’s our goal and that’s what we’re trying to do and I think we’re getting it done. Just got to keep it going.”
