All of sudden McVay looks smart for not playing starters. Fuck pre season. Count me out forever. I'd rather begin the season kind of slow then getting flooded with injuries.

Spencer Ware injured on play during Week 3 of the preseason

Spencer Ware's knee injury will likely sideline him for the season.

The Kansas City Chiefs confirmed that Ware suffered a torn PCL in addition to other damage in Friday night's loss to the Seahawks. The starting running back is slated to get a second opinion, but the injury is thought to be season-ending, according to the team.

Chiefs are holding out hope that Ware can be placed on injured reserve/designated to return, per sources informed of the situation.

Ware was coming off of a career year in 2016 during which he led the team in rushing with a career-high 921 yards. The back was also Kansas City's fifth-leading receiver. With Ware out and Jeremy Maclin in Baltimore, K.C. will be without two of their top four yardage earners from 2016.

The expected long-term absence of Ware moves rookie tailback Kareem Hunt into the starting role in Kansas City. Ware and Hunt were splitting starting carries at the time of the injury.

Behind Hunt are Charcandrick West, De'Anthony Thomas and journeyman runner C.J. Spiller. Hunt, a third-round selection out of Toledo, has been impressive through two extended preseason appearances, averaging 4.4 yards per carry and 8.0 yards per reception

The Ravens have lost another player for the season.

The team announced on Monday that linebacker Albert McClellan will miss the entire year after tearing his ACL. McClellan was injured during a practice last week.

McClellan has spent the last six years with the Ravens and made 11 starts while appearing in all 16 games last season. He had 55 tackles and a sack in those games. He’s also played a key role on special teams for Baltimore over the years.

With Zach Orr retired, McClellan’s injury means the Ravens will need to replace two linebackers who saw over 1,500 snaps on defense last year. C.J. Mosley and Kamalei Correa are slated to start at inside linebacker for the Ravens this year with Patrick Onwuasor and Brennan Beyer back from last year as depth options.

McClellan joins cornerback Tavon Young, guard Alex Lewis, offensive lineman Nico Siragusa and tight end Crockett Gillmore as Ravens players who will miss the entire year with injuries.

Cameron Meredith has torn ACL, other damage to knee

Bears wide receiver Cameron Meredith hurt his knee early in Sunday’s game against the Titans and word out of the locker room at halftime was that the team’s doctors thought Meredith tore his ACL.

Meredith had further tests done to confirm that diagnosis and the news didn’t get any better after the results came in. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Meredith does have a torn ACL and that he also suffered “other damage” to his knee that will require other tests.

The news is bad for Meredith, but it never looked good for the wideout on Sunday. His leg bent in a very awkward way as he went down at the end of reception and trainers immediately immobilized the leg in an air cast before helping Meredith onto a cart.

Meredith led the Bears in receptions and receiving yards last season and hoped to build on that this year. Had he done that, he would have been an interesting case for the Bears in terms of what level tended to use on him as a restricted free agent if they didn’t move for a long-term deal.

Meredith is still set to be a restricted free agent, but the question may now shift to whether he’s healed enough for the Bears to extend him any tender.

Phil Taylor reportedly out for year with quad injury

Defensive tackle Phil Taylor‘s return to action this summer set him up to be one of the year’s best comeback stories, but it looks like that will have to wait until at least 2018.

John Keim of ESPN.com reports that the quad injury Taylor suffered in the Redskins’ preseason game with the Bengals will keep him out for the entire season. Jay Gruden said on Sunday that Taylor would have an MRI on Monday and the results of that test delivered the bad news.

A 2011 first-round pick in Cleveland, Taylor’s first few years showed a good deal of promise but he missed 11 games in 2014 and then all of the last two seasons because of knee injuries. He impressed at Redskins camp this summer, raising hopes that he could pick up where he left off that have apparently been dashed.

A.J. Francis and Joey Mbu are the next two players up on the depth chart at nose tackle in Washington, although they could also shuffle Ziggy Hood inside as they make a plan for life without Taylor.

I just wish they'd knock preseason down to two games finally. Such a waste watching all of these players crumble in meaningless games. It won't prevent injuries obviously but would at least truncate the amount.

Have two preseason games with the first one being the "starters play" one and the second one for all the depth to compete. Have them be during the normal week 2 and 3 of current preseason so that teams get an extra week of practice before and an extra week of practice after it is over. Would also give an extra week for any injured starters to heal before the start of the season if needed since they'll be playing a week before they usually would for the third game.

If they hit more in practice - or scrimmaged more with other teams then I would favor 2 preseason games. As it is, they need the contact. Most (but not all) of these injuries are non contact or happened in practice anyway.

Why did we close the other thread? I wanted to talk trash on the colts.

Someone posted the Vontae Davis injury earlier in this thread. It's not necessary to start a thread over it. How many threads need to be started on the same topic or player? Using the search engine before posting prevents that from happening.
