Sedrick Van Pran, C, Georgia

Van Pran is the consensus top rated center for the 2024 draft. He has been a durable and effective (one sack allowed) starter over the past two years for the powerhouse Bulldogs. He is 6’4, 310, and viewed as a guy who would do well in a zone blocking scheme.

So why is he my pick?

Van Pran is currently viewed as a 2nd round prospect. With another strong year, I’d expect him to get slotted in the late first round. If that’s where the Rams are picking (with their own selection), it would mean the year was a success.

Additionally, if the Rams are able to prioritize center in the draft, it means that, either by virtue of the team’s performance in 2023, or its FA acquisitions next offseason, they are not compelled to prioritize LT, WR, RB, EDGE or CB.

And, of course, if things play out this way, we can look forward to the pre-draft stress associated with the possibility of selecting a diminutive WR over SVP.

I'd personally love for us to go OL again, but hopefully this year Coleman Shelton makes us forget about acquiring a C!

McVay does not draft in round 1, the late 1st rounder will be traded.
Does anyone recall 2023? McVay wanted to trade his first round pick not once but at least twice. Odds are he’ll spend it before the 2024 draft.

Just one fucking time I would like us to get a blue chip 1st round talent on a ROOKIE contract instead of having to immediately make the person traded for one of the league's highest paid players. Just once! If Snead trades our next 2, 1st rounders and then some for Brian Burns (for example) to just IMMEDIATELY pay him north of $25M per year will make my fucking head explode.

If you look at every Rams first round pick since 2000 it's pretty clear that trading them for a known quantity is a far better option.

Arguably the only "blue chip" talents we got out 18 first rounders since 2000 are AD, SJax, Gurley and Quinn (these are the only guys that made a pro bowl or all pro team). Then a lot of mediocrity and a lot of busts
