I'm referring to McVay talking about the need to fill the backup QB role, paid homage to Kirk Cousins and threw flowers at Garoppolo. But nowhere (at least that I'm aware of) did he say, "And of course we have Stetson back there as well". Its not a 1 time thing either, I've seen several conversations, and the absence is noticable

For all we know he's pleased with Bennett but wants to keep teams thinking they may grab Simpson in the draft.

I guess you're not reading what I'm writing?
McVay has publicly stated the need for a backup QB, and seemingly has left Bennett out of the conversation as a possible option.
If McVay was pleased with Bennett, surely he'd give him his props. That's the McVay way
Nothing to do with Simpson, everything to do with Bennett

Mcvay does,or at least says that.He appreciates him as a Rams QB.He still gives The Rams a chance to WIN a Superbowl if something ever happened in an emergency???

I have no idea about the situation with either of the Rams backup QB's.

But in regards to Bennett - why not just cut him to open up a roster spot last year?
I gotta think there's something there. I just don't think McVay's silence on Bennett means anything...but maybe you're right - who knows?

my take is he's back, because im not sure mcvay wants anything less than a vet backup...

highly drafted QB?... i'll believe it when i see it...

i think the reason for the delayed action with JG is his or the rams wanting to see what the market is...

testing the market? probably JG or his agent, and can anyone blame them?...

we will be fine either way... mcvay could make almost anyone workable..

I think that's why he believes there is a good chance JG comes back. He's been available and no one bit - or at least a team he liked didn't bite. No one knows right now but my guess is JG is our #2 again this season.

With Cousins off the board I think re-signing Jimmy GQ becomes more of a priority than it was. I would not feel comfortable with Bennett as the QB2. He mighta looked better in preseason last year but I'm still not convinced he has what it takes to be a good backup.

Yeah, I think we re-sign Jimmy. If someone wanted him really badly, wouldn't he be gone? Plus he stayed for two years. Wouldn't he want to stay with a real chance to get a ring? Bennett can stay as a third string guy but Jimmy went to and played in a super bowl. That's a little bit comforting in case Stafford gets injured

I would assume there are some teams waiting on the draft to play out, before offering anything substantial to Jimmy G to come in and be their stopgap.

Yes. I believe we are one of those teams.
 
Garoppolo washed out in Vegas. Rams gave him a vet min deal, then they resigned him on the cheap last year. All the while he played 1 game, was suspended 2 games and got hurt during non contact drills. I'm not sure why anyone would see a market for him outside of the Rams. I'd be fine if he is re-signed, but think he can be reasonably replaced at some point
