Mac Jones? No chance for a 2nd rounder this season
He becomes a Free Agent in 2027 & might be a player NFL teams like as a starter.I’ll say now that The Rams maybe one of those teams.

You have to think Les Snead & crew know that could be an option.
We’ll see what happens in 2026 ?

I like the idea of Trading for Richardson?? Then again I wouldn’t be surprised if Jimmy G resigns? Cousins is a player Mcvay knows from Washington.

I think we have to solidify our backup QB situation before the draft. We get JimmyG on board, the draft gives us good choices at WR.

I would hate to have to get a QB with our 13th pick
Whether they have JG or another vet QB in place before the draft has no impact on the 13th pick.
They'll draft a QB there if they think he could be the guy they can develop, and will still sign a vet QB to be the #2 (Or leave it the Stetson if they think he can handle it)

I think the plan is Jimmy Garoppolo and it's looking more and more likely that could come to fruition. If not Garoppolo, then they will pivot to Kirk Cousins. Then IMO, I believe Drew Allar is the target, just a feeling they like him and think there is value with a late 3rd or 4th round pick, if they acquire one in a trade down scenario.

Thus leaving Bennett, who they could feature in preseason with hope to trading him for a conditional draft pick, if he shows anything.

I don't see McVay liking Allar. He's very inaccurate which is a tough thing to change. I could see him liking Nussmieir. Been learning how to QB since he was a kid. Arguably had a bad season due to a core injury that would certainly hinder a QB.

I disagree on Nussmeier as I don't think he can ever holdup at the next level. Allar is big at 6'5 230lbs and is athletic too. Allar has to work on his mechanics, but Nussmeier's arm talent IMO, might not translate at the next level.

I watched both Quarterbacks, never did I come away with thinking Nussmeier could offer anything at the next level and while I never lost any sleep on the Buckeyes facing Drew Allar, I did see at times why he was a 5 star recruit.

Wasn't the "inaccurate" thing coming out of College also Josh Allen's knock?

If Jimmy G Is Gone

Verse 1

There’s a quiet in the locker room down in L.A. tonight
Playbook on the table, but something don’t feel right
Rumors blowing westward like a Santa Ana wind
Don’t know if he’s staying, don’t know where he’s been

Pre-Chorus
The front office phones keep ringing all night long
And the fans keep asking what’s going on

Chorus
If Jimmy G is gone, who’s gonna take that snap?
Who’s gonna lead the huddle when the pocket starts to crack?
Under those bright lights at SoFi’s golden dawn
It won’t feel the same if Jimmy G is gone

Verse 2
He wasn’t always perfect, but he kept the fire alive
Fourth quarter pressure, man he knew how to survive
Helmet on the sideline, number ten in gold
Some stories in this game never get old

Pre-Chorus
But contracts and seasons roll on like a train
And sometimes the heart of a team can’t remain

Chorus
If Jimmy G is gone, who’s gonna take that snap?
Who’s gonna calm the storm when the defense traps?
Every Sunday crowd singing one old song
Wondering what we’ll do if Jimmy G is gone

Bridge
Maybe he’ll find a highway to another town
Another jersey, another crowd
But out here in Ram blue and gold
We’ll remember the grit he showed

Final Chorus
If Jimmy G is gone, we’ll still light the flame
Still cheer for the horns and the Rams’ good name
But somewhere in the echoes of that stadium song
There’ll be a little space if Jimmy G is gone

Outro
Yeah the season keeps rolling, life moves along…
But it’s hard saying goodbye
If Jimmy G is gone.

I'm sure I am in the vast minority. I trust McVay to choose wisely and am really hoping he likes Simpson and takes him at 13 (don't f-around and get cute). At the end of the day, when we traded for a first this year (and I, at least at the time, was thinking this would be a good-plus QB draft), my hopes were we'd use it as ammunition to go up and get the guy McVay wanted. Full circle, our roster is as intact as it has been in my lifetime going into the draft and we may not have to go up at all to get the guy he likes. To me, if McVay likes him as a successor, that is totally ideal and I'll take it. The position is just too important and if it fits, you don't pass on the opportunity.

That's not to say that I don't understand the window. It is to say that I don't believe we won't win a SB because we didn't get immediate impact/results from our first round pick. Our roster is just too loaded for that thinking, imo.

Yes it was, but he might be the only one that improved vastly in that area.
And the reasoning I hear for taking Allar, is that he and Allar both share bad feet which is arguably the easiest mechanic to change for a QB vs arm motion. Still not likely for Allar to change but I get the reasoning if you pick him - no good QB coaching at any level, feet are biggest issue with accuracy (though some have argued he just doesn't see things which could be the biggest problem) and poor pass catching infrastructure around him (Warren was not by himself a load bearing wall).

Josh Allen spent an entire offseason changing his throwing motion with a QB guru.

Allar would need to do the same thing if it is due to his throwing motion.

Allen had a clear cut issue with his throwing motion.

Does Allar have a similar issue?

Who do the Rams go after for back up? I don’t see them going with Bennett, he’s got zero experience and they are all in.

There have been 60 Superbowls and 3 have been won (5%) by backup QBs (just 1 in the last 36 years, 2.7%). I don't think who's backing up matters. It's Stafford or forget about it. To me "all in" would be surround Stafford with as many talented players as possible, keep him healthy (90% or better) and go win the thing.

You upside chasin bastids. I don't see Allar as a McVay fit. But at least with Allar you don't need to use a higher pick for him like it appears Simpson will. Assuming the mocks are close to reality of course. If he's there on day 3 and you like him fine, take him. Just don't reach for him. Let another team do that.

I agree that Nussmeier is more McVay's type on the mental side. Unfortunately his arm strength concerns me. He did a good job Senior Bowl week, but he will never be able to gun a deep out. He's gonna need to be on time on those throws.

Still think Klubnik has the best mix of things if the Rams want a QB2 type who might develop into a QB1. And yes he's not ideal, far from it. But his pocket movement and ability to make the first rusher miss are things that should translate well with McVay.
