Not to be a wet blanket, but here’s something to think about.

This is a quote from a respected poster on another board named AlbaNYRam…

If AD comes back he will still be bound by the terms of his prior contract.

He had 1 year left on that deal for $30M. If he does come back, this year, next year, 10 years from now - it doesn't matter - it will be for 1 year, $30M (unless the Rams and Donald agree to renegotiate the terms).

A $30M salary is paid over the course of the season in 18 equal pay checks of $1.67M. I'm pretty sure if Donald came back week 13 he would get the final 6 paychecks for a total of $10M.

Back to me:

So, unless AD and Rams mutually agree to lesser price, this would be a heavy lift cap-wise for a one year thing.

Do you think AD would be inclined to accept a ‘pay cut’?

And which other Rams would be precluded due to cap restrictions?

It’s a risk-reward decision that must be made.

Guarantees have to be removed from that price (if that includes them) as they have been paid to him during retirement.

I don’t think he’s coming back.

But if he did, I hope it’s the last 1/3rd of the season. Say like 4-5 games left. That way he’s fresher come playoff time (not worn out).
Also, it means we pay him less. I don’t think we need him for the whole season. A late season add is good for him (fresher) and us (less $$$ and cap hit).
I doubt he'll be worn out even if he came back game 1. I'd much rather he be with the team all season to gel better with the D line room. I don't take AD as a guy that'll come in to a half ass return. Besides, I'm sure the plan will be to rotate the D linemen to keep em fresh.

AD's contract is over I thought? He's essentially an unrestricted free agent from my understanding
