I'd go after this guy this offseason for a 3rd round pick:

..... and for me it's a simple matter of estimating to what extent his alcohol dependency is going to affect his career. .....

Unless/until *HE* takes control of it, it's going to impact his *LIFE*. Football is only a minor consideration at this point. Any team that takes him on at this point is only enabling his problem.

Trade a 3rd round pick for a QB who's not even that good? No thanks I'd rather spend a 1st or 2nd on one of a handful of QB's in the draft.

Yeah I realize I shouldn't be surprised by the extent of the negativity in the responses, given what a polarizing player he is with our fan base. Just looking at this as a pure "buy low" option, which is a good approach overall any time you're evaluating potential additions from other rosters. I see him as a kid whose antics are overplayed in the media, and for me it's a simple matter of estimating to what extent his alcohol dependency is going to affect his career. To me that is countered a bit by the fact that he's a low cap hit at the QB position for the next two seasons.

From what I'm seeing on the field the guy belongs at this level. That's important, because if the Rams see it that way then it comes down to the alcohol risk as well as the question of how the Browns have handled him. But anyway, appreciate the responses and keepin me grounded. You guys are the wind beneath my wings.

A 3rd isn't buying low, though. We could get Mike Glennon for less than that who has looked better than Manziel on the field. Hell, you say that Manziel looks like he belongs at the moment...but he's been outplayed this year by Josh McCown.

Plus, I'm not sure the media has overplayed his antics. Teammates usually come out in support of the guy. Manziel's teammates haven't done that. Instead, they called him out last year for his antics and then came out this year and supported the coach benching him.

We've taken risks on some guys with character red flags...I'd rather not introduce a guy like Manziel to the locker-room.

Instead of pursuing a future interlock participant how about we pursue Ryan Fitzpatrick? An actual quarterback.

Because he's likely sticking with the Jets.

We could throw the farm and barn at him though! :)

That would be a bad idea. He's not a good starting QB. Plus, he has no reason to leave Gailey and the Jets. He has Decker and Marshall to throw to and an OC that loves him.

Compared to bringing in Manziel? I think not.

Oh if having a 60.5 completion percentage, 26 to 12 TD to Int ratio, and 3428 yards is not a good starting QB sign my ass up for one then!

Btw Rams starting QB's this year 58.7 completion percentage, 10 TD to 11 INT ratio, and 2556 yards.

Just some food for thought for the talent guru on ROD.

p.s. Why would N. Suh got to Miami? Yep $.

I'd have to agree, if we had a Fitzpatrick with just a good judgement and progression ability we'd be in the playoffs this year.

Isn't Manziel the leading rusher today for Cleveland ? Take your cracks at Manziel, that's OK. The Browns don't have much of a running game outside of him, so he's being asked to be a scheme fit in the pocket, something he was never really cut out for. With Gurley, Mason & Austin leading a Fisher style rush first offense, Manziel becomes a completely different player with the Rams, especially with a developmental OL which struggles in pass pro. No one says Manziel is the long term answer, but he can help our current situation.

By the way, how's Kaep & RG3 doing today ?

You kinda just disproved yourself bringing up RG3 and Kaep.

I mean it wouldn't be bad having Manziel if we were playing a college football schedule but this is the NFL, dude is a farse just like Tebow was. Tebow 2.0, no thank you.

Oh wow, thank you so much for posting numbers that are available after a quick google search. I had no idea.

In case you forgot, one of our QBs had a 64.0% completion percentage, 27 to 2 TD to Int Ratio, and 2891 yards only two years ago. Yet, he is not a good starting QB. But stats are the end all be all, right?

Look, I like Ryan Fitzpatrick. But he's not a good QB. He shouldn't be paid like one. He's serviceable. But right now, he has Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall at WR. A good OL. And a good running game. Basically, he has an excellent supporting cast. I'd certainly take Fitzpatrick on this team next year...but not at $14+ million a year. The Bills gave him $10 million a year on a 6 year deal and ended up cutting him only 1.5 years later.

So maybe you're not following me...I'm not throwing a bunch of money at Ryan Fitzpatrick this off-season. Not to mention the Jets will have first crack at re-signing him and I think they will re-sign him. Because Chan Gailey loves him. He loves it there. And he knows he is surrounded by talent.

We'll see won't we. Manziel is only working on his 8'th pro game today, playing for a bad team against a good one. And Cleveland is still in this, basically on Manziel's back.

Are we trading for Manziel to play HB? Did you miss how terrible he's been passing the ball? And as bad as his stats are, he's been even worse watching the game.
