Projectors are still the only way to go that big economically. LCDs are getting there though. Plasma is dead.
Yeah it's dying. Panasonic quit on the format most recently IIRC.
Its too bad. Plasma still gives you the best picture for sports, and IMO movies too. LED and LCD are too bright for my taste(although they're ideal for gaming), and then there's the washed out viewing angle issues that you don't get with plasma.
It's all about preference and user specifics. I have a 50" Samsung plasma and i couldn't live without it. The ONLY thing i don't like about mine is that it puts out some heat which is fine in the cooler months, but it can be a pain in the ass in a 3rd floor apartment in July in Arizona.
I do use a Sony 32" LCD in my bedroom which is fine for that purpose.
