I'm really thinking the FO let Schotty go the nice way and we realize we need to do something with the offense which Schotty obliviously couldn't do. I think we bring in Shannahan or Chud to get us to the promise land so our D has another unit to play with.

I agree. Three seasons of Shotty and basement offense told Fisher he needed to make a change. The QB issues were real(no fault to BS there) but so was the offenses inability to capitalize off turnovers and red zone TD opportunities.
I think Shott was persuaded out.

Wonder if the combination of Mike & Kyle Shanahan coming to St Louis to team with Fisher his long time good friend along with Gregg Williams as DC would be underwhelming?

Never know Mike only had one bite & that was in San Fran & lost out. Mike is now retirement age @ 62 & could like a less stressful NFL gig. I could see something like Kyle Shanahan being named the Offensive Coordinator with Mike his dad find a spot close as a special assistant to HC Fisher plus administrative assistant on offense to his son Kyle to get his sons NFL coaching career back on target:whistle:.

Side note: Boudreau does not do ZBS offensive lines might be an issue there.

I'm starting to think Fish's long, deliberate approach in hiring his coordinators is his worst enemy. It works fine when the pursued coordinator is his friend, like Williams who fortunately is outstanding. But not when he's got guys like Gase and Shanny Jr on his list. I mean, Shanny Jr knows him and all but that doesn't mean not pursuing him is wise.

Anyway, I agree with the OP. Really have my hopes up right now that the Rams will have a good young OC. If he ends up with an old dud like Olsen I am gonna write off this next season and start thinking about who our next head coach should be. Seriously.

- Uncertainty at the QB position. I'm as big of a Bradford guy as anybody. I think the guy can be great. He hasn't played in a year and a half though and who knows if he can hold up. There are no free agent options out there and Winston and Mariota will be gone when we draft.

I see this statement a lot, but isn't it a little early to make such claims? Birdgewater and Manziel were supposed to be a lock for the top 5 this time last year, and they ended up going late in round 1.

Well I agree we will hire somebody who runs the Old School "three yards and a cloud of dust" conservative scheme. I don't agree with it entirely because I wanna see more innovation our plays to keep defenses guessing. However, I disagree whole heartedly that we don't have the pieces for a razzle dazzle offense. We were hand cuffed with the QB situation for one thing but Schotty was abysmal in the third quarter, too. We do have plenty of pieces for an explosive offense if Britt is retained and we beef up the OL plus a healthy Bradford etc.

Britt is a legit #1 receiver. This guy is a true weapon if we can simply get someone who can locate their passes under center.

Quick was doing better than Britt before the injury, nuff said.

Bailey is an excellent threat between the hashes and on come back routes on the outside.

Tavon is the real victim out of anybody on playcalling. Jet sweep discovery half way through the season and and some carries is not good enough (Thanks Schoty)

Cook is a darn good threat. His hands are a little stony at times but there's no question this guy is a mismatch for anybody.

So there you have it.
I think you pretty much nailed it Mr.!(y)(y)

The way I see it, there's 4 reasons top OC candidates might not want to come here... who knows which reasons mean more to which candidates.

In no particular order:
1. Uncertainty with team location.
2. QB uncertainty if Bradford gets hurt again.
3. Concern over how much Fisher's philosophy restricts what an OC wants to do.
4. Concern that the current regime may only have one more year anyway.

I'm sure if you throw enough money at them those 4 reasons could disappear right?

Sure, if we throw crazy money at anyone, they're going to come here.

Not sure if the Rams will do that though. It's always easy for us to spend their money... ;)

Definitely! Shots on the house! Send the bill to um... Stan Kroenke!

It is, but folks like to believe they've got it all figured out months in advance. QB's especially will rise and fall between now and draft day.

If it's not Shanny-son or Chud.....

I'm really going to have no interest in this offseason, especially after the Jones thing already.

The only thing I truly care about is that our offense plays fast week one of the preseason.
Not week 10 of the regular season.

BTW. I was also one of the overly optimistic guys regarding McD.

The guy I want is Shanahan. He has had success all over the place in the NFL. I love the scheme he runs. I wouldn't mind getting Chud or Gase, they run the same system Schotty ran only better. That being said I don't think we get a highly pursued OC for multiple reasons.

- Fisher is in a make or break year. If he goes then the OC is back looking for a job.

- Uncertainty at the QB position. I'm as big of a Bradford guy as anybody. I think the guy can be great. He hasn't played in a year and a half though and who knows if he can hold up. There are no free agent options out there and Winston and Mariota will be gone when we draft.

- No elite players on offense. We have a lot of nice, solid, and some good players. We lack that blue chip elite player on offense.

I just don't see us being the first choice for guys. Hope I'm wrong. I feel we will land a guy like Hackett or promote from within.

Does it really matter who the OC is? They're again changing OCs. Most everyone got their wish. Until we get some consistency from personnel, both health and be able to stay on the field, the OC is IMO a moot point.

Don't know about the move and how much that would affect a prospective OC. The QB situation could be bad or good if they get a young stud to develop and Bradford comes back (I don't discount the way he looked in preseason and training camp). This is not a make or break year for Fisher BTW I hate that term and none of us knows diddly about how Kronke feels

Yeah. I'm going to try to not get too high or too low regarding our new OC. There more at play here regarding personnel.

I'll TRY.
No promises.

Not that many "Elite" players in the league. With the right OC Bailey, Quick, Britt, Cook, Mason, and Austin will all be way above average players and Bailey could be Elite.
I think Kroenke and Snead had a heart to heart discussion with Fisher. I will be surprised if they don't bring in one of the top available OC out there. As I said before I think the Rams are a very attractive place for an OC to go right now.

Yes.

And when you say "again changing OCs" what are you alluding to? Schotty has been in charge now for some time, three years to be exact, so let's not act like the Rams have been changing them every year.

Take a look around the league brother. Look at the injuries the Cards suffered. Both units produced quite nicely by coaching up the replacements to those who were injured. That the Cards' third string QB finally got them exposed in the playoffs is beside the point, btw, because at least they won a ton of regular season games and got into the playoffs. Brown was everything we hoped Austin would be, and you know what? IMO if you were to give Austin to Arians you would see why the Rams drafted him.

Anyway. Only months ago fans were crucifying Williams in spite of his history and record that demonstrates he is an excellent DC, with some acting like poor Walton was wronged since it's all about the players. But by now they should be realizing the difference between a DC who was in over his head and one of the best in the league. We need that on offense now and the Rams are in business. So, again, my answer to your question is YES.
