Yea I'm out in Dallas. No gas anywhere due to Harvey. Not that I'm complaining because that's first world problems compared to where they are at in Houston. Complete devastation.

Irma could be a monster. But a little early to know where it will hit and the severity.

What's worrisome are the comparisons to Andrew.

Both started out small and spun up quickly. Both were dismissed early, although maybe it's the 24-hour news cycle and the internet, I'm seeing more about Irma.

I have faith we'll be okay.

That said, I also have faith in the science of satellites and if Irma wants to make a housecall, we'll be making sure not to be home.

Well, Mac, this morning an AccuWeather meteorologist is saying the likelihood of Irma torning North and missing the US has grown less likely, and the center of the cone is making a bee-line towards the southern tip of Florida. There was a storm that hit Galveston, TX on Sept. 9,1900 called the Galveston Hurricane that killed up to 12,000 people that made a similar track..I believe it was the most deadly natural disaster in history and changed the balance of power between it and it's rival Houston.

No one needs this hurricane, but how cruel would it be if it hit Galveston/Houston so close to Harvey?

Definitely worth continuing to keep an eye on this one. Most models seem to agree it will turn north due to upper level winds as it moves further west.

It appears headed toward the east coast of Florida, or more likely the Carolina's. But, it's anybody guess right now.

Can't help but worry about the capacity of US relief efforts if they had to deal with another major hurricane.

If this holds and Irma is where it's projected to be on Saturday morning, then it's going to turn north and hit FL or it's going to slide right into the Gulf and then all bets are off.

Well, I was wrong. Not surprised being a very amateur meteorologist.

then again, I was more right than the pros...

Looks like Irma wants some gumbo so she's headed for the Gulf.

Dunno if she'll slide all the way to Houston or turn up towards New Orleans or Pensacola, FL.

Gumbo is good but boudin is better! Still hoping Irma is a lady and swings north to fizzle out in the Atlantic.

Love a good hurricane with some rain and wind (and maybe even a day off work;)) but this is too much!

Up here in Nova Scotia, been some talk about maybe getting the tail end of it.

IRMA'S A CAT 5!!!

For us in Florida, we need to stock up NOW.

I still think because of the high in the Atlantic that's massive, that it's going to push west and hit the panhandle or even Mississippi or Alabama, but now is the time to stock up. Shelves are already getting bare in South Florida, so wait even a day and there may not be much to pick from.

Wind speeds up to 180mph now. Bloke at work said it's being touted as a "unofficial cat 6" storm. Good luck to Mack and anyone else in the area, this is not looking good.

Yep. It's expected to slow down to about 155 sustained after hitting Puerto Rico and Cuba.

The only question now seems when it makes a right turn...

We're gonna leave in a minute to hit BJs and the grocery store, but also put in place plans to bug out.

I really don't want to ride out a Cat 5 storm.

I am seeing wind gusts up to 225 MPH

Glad I just had new hurricane windows installed in my condo in Naples

sister supposed to be flying down to FLA on Sept 16th for 2 weeks

Good luck to those in her path which might even be me. Hoping she hangs a right pretty soon.

Strongest hurricane ever in the Atlantic now, crazy. 5 mph from world record apparently.

My wife just called me from Costco here in Orlando... it is total panic mode. The lines for the cashiers start all the way in the back of the store.

Wow.

Im in SWFL..........there are lines at the gas stations, some only have the high octane left some are totally out of gas. My tank is full.

I have cash in case I have to evacuate and I have a bunch of food that doesn't have to be kept in a fridge like granola bars, pouches of tuna, snacks like peanuts and stuff. I have one case of water but just got back from the store and there is none there. That's where I picked up the non perishable stuff. I got a bunch of gatorade type of drinks so I'll be good if I lose power. And if the storm makes landfall here or looks like it's going to I won't stay here I will drive north. I even went as far as getting a container of baby wipes in the electric and water get knocked out.

@Mackeyser what plans do you have? Just drive north and get a hotel for Sunday night?

We just hit BJs and Sam's. Heading to Publix now.

Latest track from spaghettimodels.com shows the storm hitting Fort Meyers area after curving around Keys.

We are gonna make our bug out decision tomorrow after the next round of models come out.

We only lightly prepared because it makes no sense to fully prepare for a hurricane of this intensity. Either it's gonna swing wide and only graze us or we're bugging out.

We bought lots of cereal, granola bars, iced tea and cans of peas and beans so we could eat them cold.

I had a feeling about Irma which is why I started posting about her.

Stay safe all

That might be textbook bad timing.

Our friends in Naples are heading up my way. With our luck... the storm will hit us instead of Naples.
