Think of him as a weapon, not just a TE. He'd play out of the TE spot most plays, H back others and split him out too. He can block as well. First year, maybe ~50+ catches, 700+ yards, 10 carries, 75 yards, total of 5-8 TDs. BUT - his production will only increase going forward. He will be matched up vs LBs or safeties most of the time and his speed will dominate them. McVay will have the flexibility of using multiple dynamic TE sets. Think of Puka out there with Sadiq, Ferguson and Parkinson. With Williams. they'd have five pass catchers, or three add'l blockers on a run, switching up on consecutive plays. Think a defense won't be frustrated and fooled? Think of the player, not the position.

Also, he ain't playing TE the way you're suggesting which sounds like as a Y.
Not against taking Sadiq (though I'm not really in love with it) but I think people have to have clear eyes on what position he'll play (move TE or F) and the kind of production he'll have his first year at a spot that's notorious for not offering a lot year one.
The player (not position) just isn't what you think he'll be year one.
So you compare Simpson to Goff and Purdy but don't want to have a bar of him in the first?
Goff and Purdy have been to superbowls. Goff should have gone twice if it wasn't for a too cocky hc and useless wr dropping perfectly thrown balls on 4th downs.

Stafford is a Rams great but Simpson could be the future and this years backup which is surely worth a first round pick?
I have said elsewhere, I get why a skill player at 13 could be huge but why not trade back up and grab Simpson around pick 20? It would cost us our 2027 1st, together with this years 2nd and 3rd. That is not a steep price to pay for keeping our SB window wide open when Stafford retires
Simpson was a better QB than any of those slated to come out next year. OK some 2027 eligible QBs will shine, but will we have the opportunity to draft one if we challenge for the title this season?!
Don’t sleep on Simpson. He’s a good player who could shine in our system. He’s got the smarts, toughness, blood lines and arm talent, as well as athleticism, to succeed

You’re 100% right. This is the system the Rams have been running—and quite well. They have had the luxury of developing players because it usually works. OTOH, they do occasionally hit it big and a rookie comes in and balls out in his first season.
…but I keep reading the excuse that certain positions take a while to get it.
There's a rookie award for offensive and defensive POY.
Yes, there are plenty of rookies who come in and start. Some go through some growing pains while some hit the ground running.
It is very possible to draft these players. The Rams have done it before.
Totally agree Tackle. People are sleeping on what Simpson can be on the Sean McVay Rams.
For instance, Brock Purdy, 7th Round pick. On 25 teams in this League struggles to make backup status and is not taken too seriously. On the Kyle Shanahan (Sean McVay equivalent) 49ers he is leading the Super Bowl Game in Overtime and making numerous other Playoffs and earning Max Contracts.
As long as Sean McVay plans to be around for the long haul, thats 5-10 more years, not totally sure he does but quite possibly, Simpson can be to him what Purdy is to Shanny.
Sean's outright deflection of the Simpson question a few weeks back could still prove to be telling.

I have stated that Goff has a much better arm than Simpson and also meant to say that Goff is a much QB than Simpson will ever be. My bad for not saying that. Simpson however does compare somewhat to Purdy. And I am stressing somewhat.
And I am not a big fan of Purdy. He is a game manager QB with a superteam. I have stated he would be around 15th in the top QBs.
But if you want an average QB before the 6th round, then okay. I don't.
