How did the Rams get it so disastrously wrong with John Franklin-Myers?

I don't recall exactly but if I recall correctly it was rumored that he was out of shape and was cut because of that and his subsequent lack of production.

The Rams had Suh, Brockers, and Donald at the time and please tell me which one of those JFM was better than?

As right now, the Rams were cash strapped then and weren’t playing Madden when you can stack a team.

In reality, you can’t keep everybody, especially if you draft well.

I remember hearing people say that preseason when he was released, that he did not look very impressive, and was getting beat out by other depth players.

I found it hard to believe that a player that looked so good a few months before just dropped off, and he was more than likely not playing 100% for preservation purposes, but I guess the front office thought otherwise.

Nothing like a strong cup of hyperbole in the morning.

Disastrous? Really? We just won the SB. What? Holding on to JFM would have meant we would have won it more betterer?

Who gives a fuck if we let a guy go that becomes a decent player on a shitty team? It won't be the first or last time. And I'll take Gaines and Robinson over JFM any day and twice on Sundays.

He's a good enough player but even on today's Rams just like the team he was waived from he's a rotational player.

He's turned into a decent player. Who would he have started over last year? Robinson and Gaines were STUDS.

That aside.....this is really the only one of these out there which actually has the opposite of your intended post. It means McVay and Snead have things so locked in that we're focusing on one marginal player. They're amazing.

Franklin-Myers was behind those three in 2018 and was pretty-much the top-reserve. I believe Fox was on IR..

Suh was gone by 2019, and replaced mostly by Joseph-Day, with Fox and Gaines the top reserves.

Franklin-Myers release was a surprise. The Rams kept Tanzel Smart over Franklin-Myers.

55m over 4 is too much for a rotational guy. He is a nice player but give me that 55 and we could find a player to likely contribute more.

So JFM was the top reserve but Joseph Day replaced Brockers?

Also, you forget that in 2019 Suh played the long game and didn’t commit to any team for a huge portion of the offseason and you have to assume the FO thought he was more than likely to come back.

Also, even the Jets didn’t expect JFM to do what he did as evidenced picking him off waivers and keeping him on his rookie deal a few years. This hindsight 20/20 bullshit is out of control sometimes.

I agree, it was a disaster.

We've done nothing since we let this hall-of-famer go.

I think we need to re-evaluate McVay and Snead because they clearly don't understand talent if they can make a franchise-killing fuck up like this.

I just ordered my 9ers jersey.

Fuck the Rams and their never-ending fuck ups.

Go Kyle (never made a fuck up in his life) Shanahan!

You lost me a little bit.

John Franklin-Myers and Sebastian Joseph-Day were both drafted in 2018.

Franklin-Myers played in all 16 games, and was the top-reserve-DL behind Donald, Suh and Brockers

Joseph-Day was on the 53-man-roster but was not a game-day-active. Morgan Fox was on IR.

Suh's one-year-contract expired; and Joseph-Day became the third starting DL. He didn't replace Brockers. Joseph-Day replaced Suh. Fox and Gaines were the top reserves in 2019 ... and again2020, behind the same three starters.

The Rams decision to release Franklin-Myers in their final cuts in 2019 was a surprise.

I think I agree with the rest of your post.

Keep taking your meds and breath deeply :). That is your interpretation not mine fella

Very simple it's called scheme fit. In LA he was a an OLB in NY he's a DE. If you bothered to watch him he's limited in terms of scheme in the same way Dante Fowler was. He was released simply because he was nothing special in this defense.
He was a DE in LA?

I think the Rams had it right when they were tuning him up as a 5T depth piece. Where I think they erred was the decision to move him to OLB. Sometimes when you do that type of thing the player loses his motivation, especially if he's a guy who is in tune with his strengths. Maybe at that point he knew what was coming, i.e. the cut and all at OLB.

Either way the Jets plugged him into an ideal role and are benefitting. For the Rams, well, nobody bats a thousand. He was drafted by Wade and sort of fell through the cracks. Shit happens.

And since that event occurred the Rams did change their DL coach by bringing in Henderson. Who has absolutely killed it with that group. That series of moves and decisions may have factored in to the DL hire.

I'm just convinced that there was an effort or focus interview that offseason.
Maybe getting dropped was the kick in the ass JFM needed.

Yes they were both drafted the same year.
JFM was a 4th rounder and Joseph Day was a 6th rounder.
Now enough with the trivial facts, which one is going to have more playing time and a chance to make the team more?

Of course the higher draft pick is.
At the time JFM needed to get size, strength, and technique and was forced into rotation.

He was not by any means the player he is today, and at the end of the day the decision makers decided he wasn’t as good as a fit as other players on the roster ( I remember that interview) of course it’s coach speak but to the powers at be felt he wasn’t showing much if anything more than Joseph Day.

I wrote that wrong, true Brockers wasn’t replaced by SJD but JFM is a DE not a NT.
Suh carried that off season long asf so we couldn’t get a Cómo pick for him signing with the pos Bucs.
