If the Jets are prepared to cut him, it probably wouldn't cost much to trade for him. We'd just have to open up cap room. He averaged 82 catches for 1085 yards and 10 TDs over the previous four seasons before his injuries last year.

He's a blue collar work horse. I'm surprised the Jets would release him.
I like him, but I'm pretty excited to see our younger guys develop at the moment.

I'm on the fence with this guy and the idea tbh. It would for sure mean letting Thomas or Pharoh go :/

IDK, does he really add more than Kupp, Spruce or Woods at this point in his career?
Although maybe in this offense he can get back to his former numbers.

I'd venture to say yes.

Part of me says yes he'd be a nice veteran possesion WR to help our offense and young QB out. But then most of me says no I want to see what our young WR corp can do and most importantly I don't want to move around or restructure any of the contracts we'd have to in order to free cap space for him.

I'm with you. If he has a bounce back year, I'm sure a lot of teams will be kicking their selves for passing on a solid possession receiver with a knack for finding the end zone. I'm hopeful we have some gems on the roster in these last two drafts.

To me with vet signings, particularly vets with some time in or coming off of injuries, one question is the most important.
Is it a signing that realistically can help the team take a step forward? If the team were already a playoff team or in serious contention will he help the team maintain their current status or fill a role toward a title? See Lynch with the Raiders.
A team that has not had success or a young team, both apply to the Rams, is the team close to being a playoff team?
That is very debatable. The O line and D backfield may hold the key in this regard.
In terms of signing additional receivers, particularly to more than a one year deal, one name looms large IMHO. Tavon Austin.
The coaches long term view of Austin and his contract and value would figure into this as well potentially.
Unless McVey has already determined a negative toward Austin I don't see a trade like this happening. But, who knows?

I think it would be a great trade if it was for a 5th rounder or less. Eric Decker has been a red zone scoring specialist his entire career and you look at the Rams. We desperately need red zone help and one of the main knocks on McVay's system was red zone efficiency.

We have plenty of young receivers to develop but not much in the way of veteran talent for them to learn from. I would be fine with letting go of Thomas or Spruce in exchange for a guy with Decker's resumé and skills.

I'd go for it if the asking price was reasonable. I think he could beat out most of the receivers on the team. He has been more productive than Woods. If he was drafted last year, I would take him over Cooper and Thomas. He is a high character type with proven ability.

Overall I am not high on Pharoah Cooper. I liked the Thomas pick for big play potential, but he disappointed. I have little faith in either. I bet Decker could out produce both combined...plus we would get to see more of his wife.

Decker ain't the guy he used to be. Spruce is a great fit for this offense. So I think I'd stay the course with the young guns and see how they grow.

Decker had 1027 yards and 12 TDs for the Jets in 2015. He missed almost all of 2016 with injuries after having 194 yards and 2 TDs in 3 healthy games. I'm not sure how one would determine he isn't the guy he used to be. That might prove to be true, but it's far from certain at this point.

He was never fast as you well know, and how I'd determine how he isn't the same guy was the game he had vs the Bengals. Not a fan man, and he's also up there in age now. I'd definitely pass, but no worries on agreeing to disagree.

Robert Woods has never had more than 700 yards or 5 TD's in a season.
Cooper Kupp has not played a down in the NFL.
Spruce either.

When it comes to WR's with proven NFL Careers such as Decker or Maclin it would be utterly shortsighted to not consider them because of the "Potential" of the above 3 Rams.

But it appears we would have to eat some serious dead money to make a play for one of these proven guys. I am no capologist so maybe someone can shed some light how we could possibly make a move.

so we keep 6 slot wrs on our 53 roster
is this a joke?
we don't need another inside guy.
kupp, spruce and cooper all play the same position like decker.
and woods/austin can play it too.

we could need an x-guy, but not another slot or flanker. for christ sake.

Nah, definitely not worth trading for with a $8.75 million cap hit. We simply don't have the cap room period unless a miracle happens and Tru and AD both sign today. I also don't think his production and being 30 years old matches the contract when we already have multiple young guys on the team that can perform the same roles.

Now if he is out right cut and we can sign him to a lesser contract than sure. Competition is never a bad thing and he seems like he'd be a solid veteran to help out some youth. But overall this doesn't excite me all that much.

Just think, the Rams could sign him, then put him on the season ending IR right away so he will never cost a spot on the 53
There is no way. He had 2 surgeries last year. Hip and shoulder. He's a mess.
The hip surgery takes 6 months to heal, and at first they weren't even going to do the shoulder surgery until the hip was healed enough for him to walk. Then a month after he had the shoulder surgery anyway which they think takes 8 months.
Even the best case scenario was that he *might* be ready for opening day, with the Jets.
Joining another team? He wont be working out AT ALL for several months, cant run, cant lift.
So he wont even be in TC/Pre-season for "competition" or "veteran leadership"
