Will freaking Shields over Pace?? Get a rope...
Have to say I am in 100% disagreement with you on this. Shields may be the best guard to ever play the game. 12 years in a row in the Pro Bowl. He is certainly deserving and the honor is well deserved.

Wonder if somehow Warner and Pace split votes that would have gotten one of them in. Worry if so it will get worse for GSOT players next year.

As someone else said I think Warner has to wait until 17 now...with farve being up next year, I doubt they put in 2 QBs....might help pace though. sigh....

Junior Seau leads a strong eight-man class into the Hall of Fame

The Pro Football Hall of Fame cleared the decks of a number of finalists who had been debated for years, as they ushered in an eight-man class to Canton Saturday night.

First-year eligible linebacker Junior Seau was elected to the Hall of Fame, along with running back Jerome Bettis, defensive end Charles Haley, guard Will Shields and wide receiver Tim Brown.

They’ll be joined this summer by seniors nominee Mick Tingelhoff and contributor candidates Bill Polian and Ron Wolf, who were chosen in separate up-down votes which required at least 80 percent to be elected.

Brown, the longtime Raiders receiver/return man, was in his sixth year as a finalist, as he was stuck in previous years behind Hall of Famers Cris Carter and Andre Reed.

Likewise, Haley was in his sixth trip as a finalist, as he was finally recognized his contributions to five Super Bowl Champions in San Francisco and Dallas.

Bettis was in his fifth year in the final 15, and Shields was making his fourth trip that far.

Seau, however, didn’t need that much time, as the late Chargers, Dolphins and Patriots linebacker needed the shortest discussion of any of the 18 candidates discussed.

Those five modern era finalists emerged from a strong group of finalists, which were debated in a nearly nine-hour meeting Saturday.

The players who filled slots six through 10, and stand a solid shot at the Hall next year include linebacker Kevin Greene, quarterback Kurt Warner, tackle Orlando Pace, wide receiver Marvin Harrison and coach Tony Dungy.

The first five players eliminated from the original list of 15 modern era finalists were coaches Don Coryell and Jimmy Johnson, kicker Morten Andersen, running back Terrell Davis and safety John Lynch.

Another example how we are screwed... league hates the Rams for some reason. I guess I'm not going to Canton in August.

I feel terribly sorry for the legacy of Don Coryell. He was the father of the modern passing game. . . Air Coryell, anyone?

That's fine, and I agree that Shields is a deserving candidate, but Pace has to be considered one of the top 5 left TACKLES to ever play the game. That, in my opinion, trumps Will Shields. Agree to disagree.

...and before that Polian built the Buffalo Bills, an organization that had done next to nothing since the old early AFL days.

Built a team that won 4 AFC titles and that organization has done nothing since.

.

What on earth did bettis do that was hof worthy?

Best "big back" to play since Jim Brown.

Tremendous combination of size, power, quick feet, and vision. As a Ram had at least one run I remember where he broke at least five tackles. Absolutely destroyed the Saints as a rookie, Rams winning being one of the year's biggest upsets. Captured the heart of a city as a Steeler.

Let's see how long it is before a RB rushes for 13 000 yards again.

What on earth did bettis do that was hof worthy? He was a good rb with a long career but nothing he did made me go wow. Terrell Davis was much better than him. The committee seems fixated on the length of career instead of the actual play on the field.

.
he was 5th in total rushing yards when he retired. 6th after LT beat him. plus 2 SB rings. he was a beast no doubt a HOF vote. fun fact he exploded and OROY on the Rams then they changed to a pass happy O and his yards dropped. so then they brought in Faulk and asked if he would move to FB or like a trade. he decided a trade to keep playing HB. imagine him plus Faulk same team holy shit lol

Will Shields is a HOFer in my opinion....although at a position that garners less respect than LT.

Air Coryell was the man....never got his due because they never won a ring, but, if Walsh changed the NFL with his offense approach so did Coryell.

I'm glad Time Brown and Will shields got in, that leaves us Pace next year as the premier lineman and only Harrison to compete with Bruce and Holt next year. Warner is going to have to wait until 2017 because Favre going in next year.
