You can also accomplish your goal of getting the full cap space back in 2026 by making a move to trade or cut after the 2025 season. Those who are advocating keeping him are only saying to do so for the 2025 season - i.e. you're talking about two seasons rather than one season.

Cutting him after 2025 would have $5.7 mil in dead money in 2026. If we cut him before 2025 we'd eat all $11.3 million in dead cap in 2025 and have $0 dead cap from it in 2026. Where if we cut him after 2025 we'd spend $14.6 in cap in 2025 and $5.6 mil in dead cap in 2026.

If he's only going to be depth do you spend $20.3 million in cap space over 2025/2026 or take the loss and only spend $11.3 million in dead cap in 2025. I know the immediate dead cap sucks but wasting $9 million in cap space over two years for an oft injured depth piece might not be the best move.

Now a lot of shit can happen in the next two months. He might get back in as a starter at some point and kill it that leads the Rams to want the competition in camp. I'm not saying they shouldn't do that... it might be worth it. Just laying out the options and why they might think it better to cut the cord immediately. Not to mention Jackson might not want to stay if he knows he's coming in on the bench next season.

Well White wasn't capable of playing the way we thought he would....for us. He's played one game with Baltimore and had 2 PDs, one a very nice play in the end zone to prevent a TD. One play does not a season make but......... He had a total of 4 PDs in 4 games with the Rams. Perhaps he wasn't quite ready to come back? Perhaps he'll never be as good as we thought he might be?

The Jonah Jackson signing has a bit of confusion to it. We all were told he was drafted to be the LG and that Avila was moving to C, which made a lot of sense. Perhaps Avila's inability to adapt to C at the NFL level, like he did at TCU is the reason the Jackson signing looks worse than it really was? Had Avila adapted to C and played it like he did in college, Limmer is a backup guy we know nothing about?

It's easy to second guess acquisitions halfway through or after the season. Just like it is to re-draft the draft two years later. So without knowing many names of guys who were free agents this past off season I would have signed players who played 17 games productively instead of the signings we made that are now being questioned.

For the guys who know all the free agents this past off season, this exercise is enjoyable. I'm not one of them but I do question the questionings about T White and more so Jonah Jackson, by what I stated in the first two paragraphs taken into consideration.

I see how you got your numbers. Basically, the difference is his $9 mil. salary in 2025.

I guess it depends on how competitive they expect to be next year. If you're trying to contend for a SB, the depth will be huge. In fact, who knows if he would just be depth next year - he could easily contend for and win the starting job.

Also, if they're trying to contend they need a strong OL even down to the depth because with Stafford's age, protecting him is more important than ever. Like with Noteboom, I can see them being willing to pay an expensive, but versatile, depth piece.

I was just wondering, now that we discovered Tre White was not physically capable of playing at a high level, and the Rams drafted Limmer, who seems to have supplanted Jonah Jackson, where would you have spent the money.

You don't sign Jackson so you draft a different center or guard higher and he doesn't work out. Plus you don't use the 2nd on Fiske so now you're really messed up the team playing shoulda woulda coulda guessing games.

They seemed like good moves at the time. I loved their free agency.

I figured with Tre White’s Doctor being on the Rams staff, that they had good intel on his health. I also believed that they were pretty certain that either Avila or JJ could play well at center.

Well, White's issues here weren't really health. The injuries sapped his athleticism. That was always a risk. His doctor had no ability to gauge that sort of thing. Had to wait to see him on the field again.
