Torry Holt named finalist for Pro Football Hall of Fame

Former Rams wide receiver Torry Holt has been named one of 15 modern-era finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2021, it was announced Tuesday.

For Holt, it marks his second-straight year as a finalist.

The seven-time Pro Bowl selection amassed 920 career receptions for 13,382 yards and 74 touchdowns in 11 seasons – 10 with the Rams and one with the Jaguars – highlighted by eight consecutive seasons of at least 80 catches and 1,000 receiving yards while with the Rams. In 2003, he received First Team All-Pro recognition after posting a career-best 117 catches for 1,696 yards and 12 touchdowns. Holt was also a Second Team All-Pro selection in 2006 and later named to the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 2000s.

The 1999 sixth overall pick out of North Carolina State University, Holt quickly made an impact as rookie with the Rams, finishing 52 receptions for 788 yards and six touchdowns to help them to a Super Bowl title. He finished with 11 catches for 109 yards and one touchdown in Rams' 23-16 Super Bowl XXXIV victory over the Tennessee Titans.

Now that the Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee has narrowed the field down to 15 finalists, it will next pick anywhere from four to eight new members during the week leading up to Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Fla., to be enshrined this August.

If Holt is among those chosen, he will be enshrined the same weekend as former Rams teammate Isaac Bruce, who was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2020. The 2020 class' enshrinement was postponed to Aug. 5-9, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame will hold an enshrinement for each class that weekend.

Does he have a real shot to make it in, will he need to continue to wait a few years before finally getting in?

He deserves it. I would take him over Wayne or Johnson...Johnson was a physical freak but Torry was ana amazing route guy. Great hands and stronger desire.

Hey!! I liked Cankles Zgonina! Great run stopper.

We’ve heard of custom made shoes, but usually for length... not to accommodate tree trunks for ankles.

I wonder if he ever had an ankle injury in his career? I’m not convinced those things bend. :D

Damn not looking good for Holt this year! :/ that’s sad.

3 WR’s? Highly unlikely to happen.

Holt should get in over Wayne right? I think Peyton, Woodson and Calvin are locks. Leaving 2 other spots. I think Alan Faneca and Zach Thomas will get the 2 other spots but would love it if Holt and Bruce go in back to back years

Manning, Johnson, Woodson are locks.

My guess for the other two spots would be Sam Mills and Alan Faneca.

REALLY hoping whoever makes the case for Torry Holt remembers to include that he was the first receiver to eclipse 1300 yards in six straight seasons after his rookie season.

He also eclipsed 1600 yds in a season TWICE and had 8 straight 1000 yard seasons.

For whatever reason, the HoF has been slow to recognize the GSOT players other than Orlando Pace and Faulk.

Warner and Bruce had to wait (Bruce's wait was inexcusable) and Holt seems to be on the slow boat.

I'd vote Holt over Faneca, but with Calvin Johnson being the 1st ballot HoFer and the stupid voters' propensity to only like 1 player at any 1 position in each class... the backlog of WRs with credentials will continue.

It'll be a historic class with 3 first ballot HoFers. I dunno, but seems 3 is a high number.

I would sooner see Jared Allen as a first ballot before Megatron....WRs rarely get in on their first try and he didn't have the career that says he should.

Not sure about Allen, but I dont see why Johnson is such a lock first ballot.
Sure he had the monumental season with almost 2k yards, but the team was awful that season and were just feeding him the ball at the end of the year. He was getting 15-20 targets in games so he could compile stats. With all those catches and yards, he still only had 5 TD.
He endured all the bad seasons, then when the team was actually decent, he quit.
Larry Fitzgerald just called it quits. And he's a year older than Megatron....
Henry Ellard has more career yards, higher ypc and had as many 1,000 yard seasons while playing in an era that saw QBs throw the ball 30% less, and he isnt in the Hall. Crying shame
He also returned punts and a few kickoffs

I'm thinking he's going to be waiting until at least next year, when Holt and Wayne will likely be facing off for a HOF spot.
