I think its fine to monitor Gurley’s touches and make sure he’s not getting overworked. However, McVay needs to find a good balance in the way he does it. Todd is the type of back that gets better the more carries he gets. He needs to get a lather going. He was sitting on 6 carries in the 3rd Q today, and I think that’s a little on the low side. And almost all of those carries occurred on separate drives. He needs series where he’s getting multiple touches.

I think McVay will get it right. TG was running thru tackles left and right in that fourth.

What surprised me was they put Henderson in at the goal line on the last TD. Did not like that.

McVay showed his usual Achilles heel in getting too pass happy. He was using Gurley as a decoy too much instead of actually giving him the ball. Once he started getting the ball in his hands again he was tearing through the defense.

I agree to some degree, but like McVay said in the presser, conditions - the heat and humidity, played a factor. Once Gurley had a little more patience to see the holes develop and the Carolina defense grew tired, they were doomed physically and mentally.

Today is about what I expected. They're not gonna wear him down with regular season touches. Use that excellent RB depth.

Also... The Rams' offense looks better with a power runner between the tackles when we're facing a team that is jamming things up front. So going with Brown was perfectly timed during that TD series when he was in there.

Lastly I like that they started working Henderson in there. He's more Gurley than he is Brown, i.e. he isn't the type of back who will make a hole. He needs a seam. And he is going to help us this season so some of the fans acting like he had no business being in there are going to learn how wrong they are by the time we're a few games in to this season.

I wouldn't be worried about it, they have a tough defense, especially in terms of that front 7 and run defense. Most likely they didn't want to have Gurley taking a bunch of those types of hits, especially if we have other guys who can as well.

I'd rather Gurley running wild in week 17 than pushing the pile in week 1.

Mcvay always has to get cute. Giving Henderson his first touch on the goal line with the game in the line, like seriously? :palm:
