I had high hopes for G Rob, the more I watched I saw he is too big and clumsy. He has no natural feel of leverage against defenders. He gets sooo off balance that he can't anchor against a bull rush or punch against speed rush. All the techniques in the world can only help a incredibly clumsy giant so much against world class DE's.

He had his name called more than OBJ.

Should try him at DE, he uses his hands more than a lot of DL.

I wondered that last year. Try moving him to DT. The thing is though, I don't think he has the aptitude to learn a new position. He can't learn the one he was picked for, and his greatest skills are going backwards and lunging. They don't play anywhere but Corner and safety and he is too big and slow for a DB.

I said BUST a couple years ago .

Initially I was against drafting him too. After the pick I decided to wait and see if Fisher and crew knew something that I didn't. I think I am done with that approach.

I have long been a believer in drafting intelligent football players. Sure you get your Antonio Gates types now and then but guys that know football well and love to work at it are my types all the way. This physical freak, pure projection stuff is for the lightning in a bottle crowd, not me.

No but GRob has HOF talent....

-_-

Does anyone know how havenstein has compared to g-rob this year? I'd be curious to know

17-7
Lions

And the guy that sacked Goff at the end of the 2nd quarter....Kerrigan...has eaten him for lunch two game now....but Havenstein gets a pass cause...what? Oh yeah, no sacks allowed in 2015...

Again....why didn't we want G-Rob? Cause you guys don't like the holds? Cause Coach Boudreau was so competent? Cause Whitworth is so much better? Oh yeah, he gave up a sack too...think he had a false start....

Havenstein should not get a pass because he has not been great, but when the year started he was preferred because he had a real good rookie season, a type of season GRob never had. Also there were reports GRob was having issues in camp. The kid was given every chance possible and then some. He never earned the job.....you must agree on some level here.

I know you are not really comparing him to Whitworth so nothing to comment there lol.

wasn't there the report he was learning rap lyrics instead of the playbook ...way to impress the new staff Gflop

I wanted to reach through that television and choke the shit out of Sean McDonough for reminding us 10 times that Mathew Stafford was the highest paid player in the league. I mean....we got it....move on to something else buddy!

Oh wait....was this another G ROB discussion?

Fuck GROB. That is all.

Watching the Lions game and thankful we dropped him. Constantly outgunned and committing huge penalties.
I was watching the game, thinking, "Good-God Bench that guy, quick!" Mark my words, before the season ends GRob will cost them at least one game! IF THEY DON'T BENCH/CUT HIM FIRST!

You're delusional if you're trying to compare an All Pro LT to a bust LT because the All Pro LT occasionally has a negative play.

Reality is that there's no guarantees that Greg or Flowers ever improve. Like many other first round busts, they may just not be cut out for this level of football. It's kind of admirable how steadfast you are in your belief in the players you like, but at some point, you just gotta let it go.
Maybe....

We were out rushed 229 to 90+ yards a couple days ago....I'm looking for solutions....you guys appear happy with the status quo....

Greg is a powerful drive blocker...probably better than anyone on the team now...yet we just dumped him for a 6th rounder...and we still struggle running the ball...Washington had 2 runners look BETTER than Todd Gurley.....I believe it's because they have drive blockers like Greg...while everyone on here is happy to have the nice guy Whit...and stone man Havenstein....and that clueless Brown trying to move the pile.

Flowers is a RT at this moment....and like a few have noted, these young guys need more training ...coaching...more work....and possibly they can be as if not more effective than guys we have that can't move the pile.

Oh yeah, Greg had the occasional negative play too last night...overall he was serviceable...against a BETTER player.

I won't even comment on my boy Dave......Dave, the Lions are going to the playoffs...with G-Rob..think about that for a moment....

Hmmmm....so they went with a 3rd year guy cause of his rookie year? Issues in camp? Without pads???? I'm sure you've seen my rant about evaluating LINEMEN out of pads....can't be done....sorry...don't care who Krommer is...he's lying if he says he can tell who's effective in shorts and shirts.

How does Havenstein look now? I'll wait....

The kid was given every chance possible and then some. He never earned the job.....you must agree on some level here.

He was given the same chance as every offensive player? Oh yeah??? Then we shoulda cut the rest of the line or traded them all for 5th rounders...Only guys here should be Whit, Sullivan, and Saffold...I actually think he's still our best lineman.

Better than some other off field things he could be doing. I'm still waiting to see any of these guys collapse the line...down block and the whole d-line moves....all the guys that DON'T rap need to show some of that....sorta like that thing the Skins were doing to Walker, Smart, Donald, and Brockers...maybe the Skins tackles rap too

The trade of GRob should give all of us a :), because IMO it indicates that the present Ram Org. & coaches can make some excellent decisions. We have to agree that this team was in critical condition with Fisher & his gang in charge.....since then so many positive moves & decisions that I forget many of them as a whole.

GRob minus was one serious plus! Thank you so much !

Changes in the master roster on the OL form the end of 2016 to the end of the 2017 pre season:

#2-OG Cody Wichmann {starter}
#3-OC Demetrius Rhaney
#4-OG David Arkin
#5-OC Tim Barnes {starter}
#6-RT Pace Murphy

No need to wait....Havenstein looks terrible, I already said that. But yes a strong rookie year proves Havenstein has had success and has the ability. Havenstein's success his rookie year is better than anything Robinson ever did.

Yes, he was given the same chance, in fact more of a chance. The rest of the olineman were not due 3.2M this year. This trade was as much about the contract as it was the talent........You know that! Your a smart dude, I know you get it :)

The writing is on the wall my friend. Just because Robinson was a Ram, doesn't mean you/we still have to believe he's going to improve because I hate to tell ya..... he's not. Flowers is still really young, so maybe he will improve some. But based on his natural ability, it ain't gonna be much.
What's the writing say? I'd guess, they are around the same age (Greg-24, Flowers-23)....It's not because he was a Ram....it's because of his skill-set. His power and speed. Flowers is different....He has similar strength but not as nimble or swift. I believe he's out of position at LT....
There are not many 6'5, 330 lbs men walking around......

I will agree, they need a lil nasty to their games...right now, still looks like Flowers is thinking too much...I actually think Greg is turning the corner. Why??? No sacks last night for Olivia Vernon....hell, not too many tackles either.

How can that be when GRob is leading the Lions to the playoffs!

Sorry I couldn't type that with a straight face

The writing says "below average". There is one stat that's crystal clear: Track record.

GRob did give up a sack, but just because he didn't give up a few tackles doesn't mean he's 'turning a corner'. The dude is not a good football player, this is year 4 for him already and he hasn't improved.

Notes (not mine) from last nights game:

Lions who hurt their stock:

• Greg Robinson – The Lions’ fill-in left tackle had a rough night. Robinson drew three first-half penalty flags, allowed one sack to Olivier Vernon and nearly two more. Robinson struggles mightily with power moves, but he’ll be happy not to see the Giants again after drawing seven penalties in his last two games against New York.

Again, it's pretty clear.
