I’ve been thinking about this season, and although it’s early in the year, unfortunately my gut is telling me we’re going to hit our stride too late.

My prediction?

If we lose to the whiners this week, we won’t be making the playoffs. If we win, there’s a bit of hope.

Unfortunately, I think we’re going to lose this week, putting us at 0-3.

We’ll start getting healthier mid way through the season, and start looking like a competitive team again in November and December.

So what’s the problem?

I think we’ll have lost too many games at that point to get into the playoffs. I think we’ll just miss our chance to sneak in.

I hope I’m dead wrong.

What do you guys think?

Not true but it will be tough. We made the playoffs last year after starting 4-7(?). After we get healthy (hopefully), we could finish 9-8 or I dare say 10-7. 3 NFC losses don't help our tie breaker scenarios however.

Last season was year one of the roster rebuild. The team overperformed for what they were. Now we are in year two of the rebuild and this feels like a playoff roster but injuries can change that. Our injuries are insanely over the top, which means if we lose vs SF it's going to be wildcard or bust once again with perhaps a very slim chance of getting in.

So I'm not thinking playoffs right now. Not writing a McVay team off either. And honestly if we miss the playoffs that means we're in range for a move up for a LT which would be a silver lining of enduring a shitty season. We were up shit creek with 3 of 4 holes at the classic cornerstone positions last year (those being QB / LT / Blindside Edge / CB1). Fortunately we seem to have found our edge. This offseason we will need to find that LT.

Also irt CB of the cornerstone spots that is probably the easiest to hit on outside of the early going. They do hit the market time to time as well.

I don't disagree here and I will be shocked if they win this week especially after the 49ers just dropped one to the Vikings. Overall, I am hoping with the number of injuries, they look into revamping the strength & conditioning teams along with the Training Staff too and make some major changes. Along with that goes playing the guys in preseason for a series or two, if they are healthy.

IMO, the amount of injuries in 2021 and this year gives the quantifiable data needed for these changes to occur. No other team has gone through this and it is time to look into other ways that could ensure your team is healthier not only on day one, but throughout the year and not just saying it is bad luck because luck is when preparation meets opportunity.

Last year, all hope was lost after the Dallas beat down. We looked like shit, we were 3-6. The fat lady was handed the microphone.

Yet we made the dance. and honestly could have taken San Francisco out if we got by Detroit.

With McVay, this team could go 0-5 into the bye, and I still don't think any true pundit would feel comfortable counting them out.

I agree. It’s not just losing 3-4 out of 5 games to open as much as those games all have tiebreaker ramifications. When the Rams started slowly last year, they had two early losses to the bengals and steelers. They did, however, win the opener vs the Seahawks—very important win as it turned out. When the Rams got hot down the stretch, their only loss was to the ravens. The Rams cleaned up on all of the NFC matchups backloaded onto their schedule.
This year the schedule has been flipped.

I was prepared for a learning curve with some of the younger players, but there are just so many significant injuries that the situation is more dire than just waiting for guys to develop.

Well you are just saying what everyone is thinking.

At this point were hoping for a minor miracle.

But it's too early to give up yet. We will be getting guys back.

I think you’re trying to come to terms with a difficult situation by adopting a preemptive “sour grapes” attitude (albeit a rational one in light of current circumstances). Probably a pretty common reaction.

Unfortunately our schedule really doesn't get much easier. With the Patriots looking like a more competent team, the Jets look like they might be at least a .500 team, the Bears having a really good defense with a QB that can run (ugh), and the saints looking like a powerhouse...

Lets look at the next 3 games 9ers, bears, packers

9ers game is probably going to go the way we all think it's going to go. Thin Oline, young Dline, Secondary still in flux, and a decimated WR corps. I don't think this will go well, we the 9ers will probably play a TOP type of game and play keep away from the rams Offense. Mason is a very capable RB with a great Oline, and Purdy is elusive enough
Bears game is probably out best chance to get our 1st win this year, and probably our only win going into the bye. Their defense is stout but their offense is very inexperienced with what looks like a dud at QB. However, and that's a big however. Williams is a very good runner, and the rams are very bad at containing running QBs so far this season. Hell they even let Jared Goff run for a first down in the lions games. BARF. So in order to get this win we have to contain Williams and make him beat you, because he's very raw.
Packers, they always play us tough, and Love will probably be back by that game, just in time. lol. Figures. But I don't see us winning this one, just too many holes.

So that brings us to 1-4 at the bye. It's not over but again the microphone has been passed to the fat lady.
Good news is after the bye we should have a bunch of starters back barring any setbacks.

Best case scenario, the Rams finish 10-7 or 9-8.
Worst case 3-14 or 4-13.
Most logical prediction 6-11

We need to pick up someone via trade or FA that will help WR room and be a threat. Renfrow, Bobby Trees?
Someone solid at all O line positions at this point and someone on defense line. Not sure who tho. Need to protect Matt
If we can squeak out 2 wins (3 would be great but doubt it) we will be right where we were last year 2-3. then we will start to get ppl back week 7 and 8 after bye week. We will pay the Cards back later in the season for sure if we are Healthy. Seachickens always seems to push all of our buttons for a run.
If history is anything we always have a bad blowout loss or two before a huge run. ( being hopeful as its only week 3) Lions started 1-6 and missed the playoffs in 22 due to giants having a tie or something stupid if I remember correctly and finished 9-8

It's just such a long road for us that I can't see us putting together enough wins this year. The bye is in 3 weeks and I can see us at 1-4 at best. Asking the team to go 9-3 down the stretch isn't impossible (did something similar last year) but how much chemistry will we even have? This team was pretty healthy last year. It's all a mess this year.

Good points but I'm not sure any conditioning coach can prepare for high ankles sprains (Kupp, Note), shoulder injuries (Jackson), MCL (Puka), broken bone (JJIII) etc. Seems like the injuries are just typical of the intense contact play of NFL football. To me it seems like god-awful bad luck and is occurring league wide with the big names currently injured. Agree a couple of series during preseason may be warranted but as someone else said, the preseason scrimmages with upcoming opponents seems like good preparation in a controlled environment at game like speed. Just have to play the hand with the cards dealt and hope that miracles happen the rest of the way through.

It's disappointing. Waiting all year to see our new found running game and all the advantages that would bring the Offense. Or our top rated receivers making catches all over for tds. Stafford being the good Stafford and our new kicking game. The new defense for our new coach to showcase it for us.
And now?........not. (again).
go rams. 4-13 this year. Hope I'm wrong.

God bless those who remain optimistic. We need people like that to offset people like me. Because I look at our defense and just cannot buy into the optimism. They're much healthier than the offense. And have played pretty poorly for the most part. They might get better later on. But by then its probably too late.

Since 1990 teams that started 0-3 have made the playoffs about 2.5 percent of the time. But lets say they surprise everyone and upset the 49ers. Teams that started 0-2 since 1990 have made the playoffs about 11 percent of the time.

We will eventually get guys like Kupp, Puka, J. Jackson and Avila back. Question is, what will their record be by then? And who else will we lose by then?

AD didn't get his first sack until half-way through his first season, iirc.
New DC, new D scheme.... sometimes takes a bit to get it right.
But ya, I'm thinking we'll be a little underwater irt wins / losses this year.
A high pick on an LT would be awesome at this point. & really need that kid to be a blue-chipper.
CB, then I want a big ugly MLB.

Our defense will likely be at the bottom of the league by years end.

Worst linebackers in Football.

Very little pass rush.

Slow safety’s that can’t cover deep.

Recipe for disaster.

The offense could win some shootouts down the road if they get healthy.

I agree Renfrow could possibly be a good addition for us. He's an intelligent wideout McVay could do things with. Bobby same.

But I am hoping we stand pat at wideout for one reason: I want to see what Tutu can or cannot do. I think I know how this ends as well. However this is the last moment of his window with this team, where he's gone after the season. He does have speed, so he should be able to clear guys out worst case so the others can work and move the chains. And I am fucking tired of hearing how we don't use him enough.

Also there is a secondary benefit that if he can't do the job then we draft higher for a LT. I never root for this team to lose, however it does have some benefits in terms of positioning us for difference makers high in the draft. Truth is we don't have enough of those high talent players on this roster because McVay wins so fucking much and also because we went with vets during that window before the rebuild. This is still a rebuild. Nobody rebuilds a roster in one year, not as it pertains to having an open window for titles (we are a top franchise who guns for titles not playoffs). Not unless it's a coach coming in to an underperforming roster with more talent than is realized. But McVay maximizes talent available. So my rationalization is it's not the worst thing to have another pick mid first round, somewhere in there.

I know it's copium. It is what it is.

We will start winning once we kick Reeder and Rozeboom out of the starting line up

8 Missed Tackles by the linebacking crew is just too fricken many to win a game
