The Las Vegas Raiders are signing quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to a three-year, $72.75 million contract, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero reported Monday, per sources.
The contract includes $34 million guaranteed, Rapoport added.
The deal reunites Garoppolo with Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels, who coached him as OC in New England at the start of Garoppolo's career from 2014 to 2016. The Patriots won Super Bowls in Garoppolo's stint there as Tom Brady's backup. Now, the Raiders hope he can bring a championship to Las Vegas -- site of Super Bowl LVIII next February.

I would rather go to war with a rookie QB than pay a shitter like Garoppolo mid 20s. Crazy. Today's NFL simply put I would draft a fucking QB midrounds every two years and roll with a 3 deep room of young options and you ride the hot hand.

Of course I'd probably not last long as a GM due to this. But by God I'd go down not paying shitbags crazy QB money.

Sorry but Crappopolo is not an upgrade over Carr. That's good money from him considering he'll miss half the games.

Numbers seem fair to both sides, but the Raiders have always been a big-play team and talk is they want to double down on being explosive. The problem is JG is about as ball control, play within your means as it gets. This is a strange marriage, we will see I guess.

This is not good for the raiders.
1) g-string has not been able to consistently put a team on his back and win by throwing a lot. Carr had no choice with the defenses the raiders put on the field.
2) carr has a better arm.
3) without a top 5 defense every year, jimmy g-string will have to make more than a handful of plays every week.
4) he’s also gonna turn the ball over more if he has to throw 30 times a game.

Interesting that McDaniels went with Jimmy G. He should know what he is getting.

There's a lot of risk tied up in having a franchise qb. Garropolo saves them $13m per season vs Carr. That money can go into other spots.

Looking at the Niners model over the next couple seasons they will paying two or three tier 3-ish qbs about $20m less (combined!) than a true franchise qb. That $$ is going into other places (and saving for the massive Nick Bosa extension).

Teams are trying to emulate the Rams & Stafford's impact. Jimmy G is no Stafford. Jimmy is a good QB if he has a solid supporting cast around him and a defense to limit the opposition's scores. Yeah, they can win with Jimmy but they must give him a supporting cast on both sides of the ball.

But can he get them a SB? Not when you look at the AFC in general. Remember they have KC in their division. What is dumb is that they downgraded at QB and think they can compete for a SB? Carr is better than Jimmy.

It's actually a fairly solid deal for the Raiders. And I didn't realize he averages the most YPA (heard it on the NFL RADIO yesterday at 8.3ypa). He's never going to carry you to a SB but he can certainly help get you there.

Raiders just paid a bridge QB mid-20s because he knows the system. They will add a rook in the draft and endure Jimmuh while they pray the kid develops.

This deal isnt really all that bad, it actually makes a lot of sense.
Carr had to go, he was due a ton of $$, was mediocre and clearly didnt vibe with the coach.
They had to figure they'd get Brady or Rodgers, and draft a QB this year.
Garoppolo contract is essentially a 1 year deal with an out next year. I expect to see them try and move up for one of the top QB's and let him ride pine until Garoppolo gets hurt. 6 games or so
