I think we'll keep almost all of the RFAs - we'd be stupid not to. Can cut them after training camp with almost no financial implications. We'll have to tender Littleton pretty high though.

For the UFAs, I just want Saffold and Fowler.

The 9 RFAs, Saffold and Fowler would cost about $30 million. Cut Barron and possibly Brockers.

Roll into FA and draft with about $25-30 million - need $10 million for draft/post draft acquisitions. So $15-20 million to spend in FA. Nab a replacement for Joyner and Suh and possibly an ILB (IMO we already have Brocker's replacement on the roster).

Then we're going into the draft only needing depth - CB, OL, WR, ILB. Although a stud LB in the first round would take this D to the next level.

I think drafting a guy would be the way to go , let him develope with jared and mcvay . I would also like to see a veteran picked up , just in case. I am over mannion , we have seen enough
So we we retain free agent Mannion again for a year or two so that QB draft pick can acclimate to the offense or just go with it?

Any chance in the off season we could pick up a guy like Chris Harris Jr from Denver at CB? I would think he would be open to playing for Wade rather than going through a rebuild with Denver.

Noooo bro. No Peters. He is horrible in coverage, can't support the run and constantly shys away from contact . He is a liability out there. Can't have him back next year

I would keep Peters and Talib together one more year. Draft a CB and let him learn from them.

Every guy you listed that's on the Rams roster as a replacement for Brockers has done nothing.
I like Franklin Myers potential and he has made a couple of plays but largely....ehh.
Westbrooks I nearly forgot was on the team.
Brockers is a guy who has played at a high level previously. The options of replacing cuts with $20 M a year guys does not seem realistic on a D sign so many holes. Going on the cheap totally and rolling out Fox and Myers as anything but rotational guys seems like a reach to me also.
I don't know enough about the FA you listed.
It would seem bringing in a couple of moderate priced FA would be smart. They don't have to be big names but guys who can play the run affectively.
I just keep thinking of the Chargers getting Mebane in FA for $3M a year.
The question of course is who?
Wade does not seem to like DL'ers who play the run better than they play the pass. I agree Westbrooks & Fox do not stand to be a good run stopper starter in Wade D @ the posts he plays them. This season I have seen a trending downtick in the rotation of our defensive front five. Wade/Johnson do not rotate as we see in many of past Ram DL's. Gregg DL rotations were very high. IMO effective too. The Rams have gone through this entire 2018 season playing with only five DL'ers. The 3 starters & the 2 reliefs. Remarkable;)!

Rookie John Franklin Myers has been performing in multiple positions too in a rotation since being drafted on the 3rd day of this year's draft. Early in the season before Dante Fowler arrived, JFM saw snaps @ ER/OLB posts both weak & strong playing for the injured Easley & Longacre. When Wade goes to his 4-2-5 D JFM worked inside @ the DT posts & outside posts. In the standard 34 D, JFM has relieved Brockers & Donald on the wings. He also came from a small college-Stephen F. Austin St when drafted. JFM's ultra small cap hit of under $ 600 K is a positive. IMO JFM has proven to be a very versatile DL'er who can be plugged in many positions in the front five-man DL. JFM has played in all 16 gms 10 tackles, 2 sacks & a forced fumble. I would not want to place anything negatively on JFM rookie performance season. I see a good future here for him in Wade's defense. Once again that's something to me.

UDFA Ethan Westbrooks has been a part-time starter since he was signed. He saw action in very DL position for Gregg 43 D. EW has done the same here playing all 3 DL posts in rotation with Wade. EW has played all his 5 seasons here @ a low-cost cap hit @ approx less that 1 million a year. EW has 8 tackles & 1 sack playing behind Suh. In my brain that's something. EW is not a legit NT but fills this void for the 2nd straight season. His best positions in this defense are @ 5 tech or 3 tech post. I sure he would rather play in a post that he can perform better in. That's something to me.

UDFA Morgan Fox skills better fit a 43 defense not a 34 D. Fox does have some potentials a pass rusher when placed in a position to pressure the QB. Last season Fox was a rotational DL'er & performed well has 19 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 1 safety & 2 forced fumbles. So I think he would be a good rotational fit with Wade D. Fox's cap hit was only $393 K. I would agree with you that our present DL cadre needs to be reworked, & better skilled youthful talent inserted in order to improve in stopping the run.

I say if there if a cheap vet out there he is an upgrade to mannion. Mannion has spent 2 years in this offense and hasn't showed me much. Drafting a guy that mcvay likes would be a great move in my opinion also. So in a perfect world they go in to next season with Goff, some free agent vet trying to win a ring , and a rookie.

Just off track but I'm one of those guys that thinks drafting a qb every 2 years or so makes alot of sense.

I like that idea as well and if the new guy doesn’t work out you’ve got the previous pick to stick around a bit more

Back to Mannion though, and not attacking you or anybody because I would like to upgrade too, but who do you sign. We see a lot the simple comment sign a vet but who? Here’s the list before anybody is released.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/all/quarterback/

I know the common answers will be Bridgewater and RG3 but if we’re being realistic they’re likely to sign as either a starter or a short term deal to back up or start until a draft pick is ready. And while Mannion isn’t spectacular that list doesn’t have any names that to me really stand out. Again not attacking but we see a ton of wanting to move on from Mannion but not suggestions on how, not that McVay or Snead read this and would take our input anyways just trying to get discussion going and ideas.

You never know who will be available then and there is always a few surprise cuts. But I I think I would take anyone that played in the leauge this year as an upgrade to Mannion.

I agree about Franklin-Myers.
A lot was put on his plate and he as flashed from to time.
Wade needs to figure it out because he line outside on Danald doesn't get sacks either and the secondary gives up copious amount of big plays.
What he needs is LBs that fit his scheme and tackle.....and a pashrusher or two.....and a S...:..and better DB play......this list goes on.

True, JFM is a good fit here for this Wade DL IMO better in the Brockers post because he will not remain around the 290 mark he was in TC. This 22 yr old will easily add muscle & pounds over the next offseason & getting stronger in the process to hold up better in the run D. THis will be a plus. I believe in this 4th rd pick.

On to your 2nd thoughts here so true again....one would have thought that Snead & Wade would have selected OLB'ers in this last draft that would have fit his scheme....Snead selected five LB'ers & thus far none have had any real impact for Wade. Of these five rookies the only one that has seen any regular time on the playing field with the base defense is our very very late 7th rd pick Justin Lawler. Og Okoronkwo is a total unknown & @ this point he appears to not to have anything that will help the Rams out @ OLB'er this season when we need it. Not sure he is the answer either.

Justin Lawler is not the OLB'er that will match your comments either ...simply not a clean Wade OLB position fit. Reason JL has been utilized now as our top relief OLB'er is Lawler has upper body power to shed blockers and makes tackles to finish the job once he gets his hands on the runner which helps out this weak run defense. So Lawler is just depth & ST'mer nothing more.

The 6th rd pick Trevon Young does fit the Wade desired traits. However, he has been slowed in several areas in his development IMO. First he was medically unhealthy for a long long time he has had multiple injuries during his college career & was still slow to recover when he arrived for OTA's & early TC. Second, he was a standard 43 DE & never a stand-up outside linebacker. Not sure he will get healthy enough to be a starter in the NFL either. He has time on the PS & only active for 2 gms. If TY ever fully returns to pre 2015 form (doubtful) he had the tools to become a Wade capable edge-setter in the rotation.

None of the above say much about Snead last eight 2018 draft selections only one is showing any promise here @ the end of this season...RB John Kelly the other 7 picks:sadwalk:. Not good for our future as it stands but they were third-day draft selections. The problem again in this upcoming draft. It's a good bet that Snead will have only 1 selection in the first 2 days of this draft with the majority of his picks coming on the third day once again:huh:. Let's hope Snead does better than he did in 2018. I would not bet on it. So Free Agency will play the heavy once again...:palm:.

Here's some veteran 2019 UFA OLB'ers that fit in Wade scheme....Za'Darius Smith, Anthony Barr, Marcus Smith & Brandin Graham. We sure need one of them while we wait on these draft picks.

My multi-year extensions go to Littleton and Fowler. Both of them - along with Donald and JJ3 - were the bright spots of a much-maligned defense. Fowler provided a much-needed pass rush, along with solid run defense, and Littleton was arguably the second best player on the defense.

I'm admittedly not as high on Saffold as the rest of you are. He's been great for the last two years, but I still see him as expendable, simply because it's not wise to give players over the age of thirty and with an injury history as extensive as Saffold a multi-year deal. I'd offer a deal of one year, but no more. If he refuses, he walks, and we likely see a third round compensatory pick. It's definitely a tough decision, but one that has to be made.

Suh and Joyner did not play well, but will still probably get compensatory picks. Letting them go is easy.

Longacre was ineffective when he played. He's gone.

Easley is injury-prone. He's gone.

Shields is old, and as much as I admire him coming back from his concussions, he wasn't vintage Shields - and at thirty-two, probably never will be. He's gone.

Mannion isn't a good backup quarterback. He's gone.

Wilson and Hager are both cheap backup inside linebackers, who will likely be replaced by guys like Travin Howard and Micah Kiser. They're both gone.

Westbrooks is a tougher call. He's a good defensive lineman who can play any position on the line. I'd keep him on a two-year contract, as Suh (and likely Brockers because of his cap savings) are gone. If his price gets costly, let him go, but I see him staying.

Brown is a no-brainer at backup running back if we don't retain Anderson. He stays.

I love the way that Anderson is playing, but I see him getting a starting role next year. He's gone, unfortunately.

I do not like Troy Hill, but he's still a RFA and therefore cheap. He stays.

I do like Kevin Peterson, and I think he has a lot of potential. He stays.

I do not want Dominique Hatfield starting, but he's been a solid special teams player before his unfortunate injury. He stays.

I dislike Countess' style of play for today's NFL, but he's a cheap backup who can spot start. He stays.

Natson and Hodge were new additions, and they performed well in their roles as returner and receiver, respectively. They stay.

Fox was injured, but I think that he has potential. He stays.

Garrett Sickels is an outside linebacker who has been injured. In fact, the only game he played in was the final game against the Niners last season, and it was only on special teams. He's gone.

So, to summarize:

Gone: Saffold, Suh, Joyner, Anderson, Longacre, Easley, Shields, Mannion, Wilson, Hager, Sickels.

Stay: Fowler, Littleton, Westbrooks, Brown, Peterson, Hill, Countess, Hatfield, Hodge, Natson, Fox.

Littleton or Barron is headed to Cleveland and maybe Joyner too. Whatever we decide I just hope we have a plan to replace those guys I think this year we relied to much on rookies to fill Quinn spot and that hurt us. Just have plan to replace these guys and I can live with whatever decision

I would like to see Saffold, Littleton, Anderson, Fowler, Hill, and JoJo Natson! Hope Saffold retires with us, If Fowler can stay out of troublehe's good, Hill is coming along great....The kid can cover, And I don't know why, But I love Natson.....the guy can fly and he's shifty....Way better than Cooper IMO. I know its only been 2 games, But Anderson is tearin it up!! GO RAMS!!!

This isnpart of the problem of drafting mostly late in the draft.....the best guy at a position of need may not really be a fit scheme wise.
Hopefully the Rams (with no 2nd) can end up with two third round compensatory picks.
That first round pick to me is a DL or a S (assuming Joyner is gone).

It will be nice to finally enjoy the opening day of the draft even if it's going to be very late selection. I have not begun to study the 2019 draft class yet but I understand it is loaded with DL'ers & with so many good DL prospects along with the usual fact that NT's do fall a bit Rams might be in stricking distance to snag one. With all the mess surrounding Clemsom Tigers NT Dexter Lawrence suspension he might fall some too. Other NT prospects like Raekwon Davis or Derrick Brown would fit.

I am concerned about those allegly two possible 3rd rd awarded Comp selections for Johnson & Watkins. Both missed major parts of the regular season due to health issues. Neither had a good yr nor will they play in the post season. I believe both will be 4th rd awards thus resulting in the Rams having to give our only 3rd rd pick to Jax.

I like Brown.
Haven't looked much into it yet.
Yeah, big difference between 3rd and 4th round picks.
The first round pick HAS to be an impact guy.
