I don't know about using the franchise tag on Puka, but I definitely want the Rams to sign him to a second contract even if it means letting Young walk which I really hope does not happen.

This came up in the other thread... but other than Turner all these players have something to prove this season first (well maybe not Young).
- Rams seem to want to see if Avila can overcome some of the bumps and bruises that keep him out at various times in his career while becoming more consistent overall. Interesting that Fowler didn't mention Dotson which I believe the Rams would prefer to lock up anyways.
- Nacua needs to show some maturity this year so makes sense we're not pursuing anything now.
- Turner and Young. Both would be great players to retain but I'd argue that bringing in Garrett makes keeping them less important going forward. Of the two, I'd love to resign Turner but neither is a must have necessity with a generational talent like Garrett. In fact, Rams could look to draft/craft/sign a defensive line with a similar build to when we had Donald going forward with low draft picks and veteran journeyman signings that compliment a true star player.
I noticed that McClendon wasn't mentioned.
But, during the season they'd better lock up Young or Turner before their stats explode with all the attention Garrett is going to get.

Rams are one of the top teams in cap space available in 2027 and beyond right now. There's nothing keeping us from signing players now since extensions don't usually kick in until after rookie contracts are done. So extensions likely wouldn't affect us this year.Doesn't this really all rely on when Staff decides to hang it up? Bc we're year to year on him and hes not cheap. If we win the SB and Staff rides into the sunset, as well as possibly Adams...I think that leaves us a good bit of change to give to our younger players. Am I wrong?
McClendon did better than expected. If continues to improve, waiting to extend him might cost more. Today he won't cost as much. I'm wondering if they shouldn't take a chance on him and extend him while its still cheap.I noticed that McClendon wasn't mentioned.

I am with you here on the Warren McClendon decision on his extension.McClendon did better than expected. If continues to improve, waiting to extend him might cost more. Today he won't cost as much. I'm wondering if they shouldn't take a chance on him and extend him while its still cheap.
I think they extend McClendon, then either Avilla or Dotson leave in FA. Trost takes over one of the OG spots next year.I am with you here on the Warren McClendon decision on his extension.
IMO, WM was a very big surprise in 2026, from what I have seen, his compiled on field play has been vastly overlooked by many. I found his performance to be much better than top 2023 draft selection Steve Avila. His plug in play over Havenstein was noticeable immediately.

Just thinking Rookie OL Keagen Trost is the the answer..... I am pulling for WM to get an 3 yr extension.
The MG ramification? is a worthy thread on its own...I think they extend McClendon, then either Avilla or Dotson leave in FA. Trost takes over one of the OG spots next year.
BTW, Then I think they extend Turner and Young, if Young has a good year.
So Puka, Turner, Avilla/Dotson, and maybe Young stay.
I now think they let both Parkinson & Allen leave in FA, which is why they have so many TEs on the roster right now.
At least that's my thoughts on the pending FAs in light of the addition of Garrett and it's cap ramifications.
IMO, Kobie Turner would be a huge loss. The MG ramification? is a worthy thread on its own...
Why would you waste NFL's (by far) best going forward pass rusher endowed with the best bending lower left body hook ..... out "in reverse" in "large space" working in the OSLB'er position looking at RB & TE's?
Not sure just how that will turn out. I would hope that MG's special talents of directed hell attacks are directed @ Left side of the OL remains as it been the last 9 yrs in Cleveland. MG is 15 pounds heavier than Verse was too.
Rams 3 position DL is in excellent condition going into the future. 2027 season has return starters NT Ford & Fiske, reserves Davis, Norton, Hamilton all ready to go along with MG under contract. In addition others under contract are rookies Tim Keenan, Jaxson Moi, Jalen Logan-Redding & Payton Zdroik.
IMO the loss Kobie Turner, Desjuan Johnson & Larrell Murchison would not greatly effect the Ram DL after this season with MG here.
Agree on Dotson. Turner over Young (due to Stewart), and no way on God's Green Earth they let Puka get away.I think, before the season starts, they have to extend at least two players. Both for the message it sends to the locker room (we pay those who perform) and to reduce the odds of the price tag going up too much.
My guesses ... Kobie Turner and Kevin Dotson. Leaders on both sides of the line.
I would love them to add Puka to that list, but I can understand the hesitancy. Coin flip at this point, but I'm still hoping something can happen there.
Unfortunately, can't see Young being here next year. He will either be too expensive after this season or the injured knee will linger and he won't be a priority anymore.
McClendon and Avila will have to prove it this year, and then they will likely only sign one of them when the season ends - like they did with Curl this year.
No Ram fan can disagree with your post. My comments on Turner are not popular.IMO, Kobie Turner would be a huge loss.
Might be the time to shift back to the compensatory pick strategy. No Ram fan can disagree with your post. My comments on Turner are not popular.
However Snead is facing 16 UFA's when this season ends. Eight of them are starters.
The OL alone has four UFA's. Snead will be forced to make every attempt to keep the "Huge Loss" as you state to where the impact of the loss of a UFA starter can cause the least damage. Defense.... normally has much better % odds to finding & inserting rookies or younger players into the lineup with much less loss of production.
Need to remind ourselves just how hard & complex this McVay offense is. It takes many seasons to get an OL'er or TE where he can play effectively.
Snead appears to have this DL well endowed. Is not MG more than capable of stepping a few feet inside taking snaps in that DE Turner post along with Ford & Fiske when needed? Reserve DE Tyler Davis took near 43% of the snaps in that 2025 DL.
I realize we have 16 pending free agents. Turner may be the 2nd most important on the list.No Ram fan can disagree with your post. My comments on Turner are not popular.

Disagree on Turner. I’d like to see him stay for a second contract as a foundational piece of the DL.The MG ramification? is a worthy thread on its own...

Agree. He can be the Robin to Garrett's Batman.Disagree on Turner. I’d like to see him stay for a second contract as a foundational piece of the DL.
