This came up in the other thread... but other than Turner all these players have something to prove this season first (well maybe not Young).

- Rams seem to want to see if Avila can overcome some of the bumps and bruises that keep him out at various times in his career while becoming more consistent overall. Interesting that Fowler didn't mention Dotson which I believe the Rams would prefer to lock up anyways.

- Nacua needs to show some maturity this year so makes sense we're not pursuing anything now.

- Turner and Young. Both would be great players to retain but I'd argue that bringing in Garrett makes keeping them less important going forward. Of the two, I'd love to resign Turner but neither is a must have necessity with a generational talent like Garrett. In fact, Rams could look to draft/craft/sign a defensive line with a similar build to when we had Donald going forward with low draft picks and veteran journeyman signings that compliment a true star player.

I noticed that McClendon wasn't mentioned.
Still feels like a guy who needs to show out this year too. One year of being pretty good pass blocker while needing support from TE's in the run game needs to be buttressed by another year of same or better play.

I don't believe Fowler has been one to just throw stuff out there.

Besides, he didn't say it wouldn't happen.
Taking big swings instead of paying young stars? Because we traded one we're not paying young stars? Pretty far fetched IMO

Then they aren't paying a list of players and they aren't talking to them which he doesn't know but follows that up with an "this could change" to cover his ass and point out that he was right just in case. Sorry this is as vague as I've ever seen from him. And even when or if he's wrong he's done that fine job with the last line of potentially covering dat ass.

But that's not what he said.

All he is saying is that they haven't re-signed any of the young stars yet.
Instead they made a big swing for Garret now. Today.

That's all he's saying.

And Fowler has been one of the most credible reporters I've posted here for Rams news.

I'm not diggin' the Nacua non-extension talk. This guy is the BEST WIDE RECEIVER IN FOOTBALL. Makes the BEST CATCHES I'VE EVER SEEN in Football. Unless his off-field stuff and personal life is SO egregious that the Rams know and we dont, Nacua is a MUST sign.

Hall-Of-Fame talent.

They'll probably get a deal done with him eventually (though given his offseason off the field stuff he might be better served to get a franchise tag, IMO).

But, I must admit, I'm in the minority that believes that it's crazy to give $40 plus million per year to any WR as they are easier to replace than let's say a QB, Stud left tackle, or dominant pass rusher. Merely a good WR in a good offense that is on the same page with his QB can still put up huge numbers in this league. And as Nacua proved, they can be found easier outside of the 1st round of the draft in comparison.

Gotta disagree. Puka is the rare 5th Rounder that doesn't grow on trees. He’s almost like Brady going in the 6th......AL-MOST.

No holes in his game. Fierce competitor. Cant be replaced as casually as you paint it IMHO, Memphis pal.

I wasn't one that scoffed when the Chiefs let someone else pay Tyreek Hill. It's hard to find high priced WRs that got Super Bowl rings AFTER their big extensions.

He said the Rams are giving him the impression that they’re not going resign them. So I agree with @OldSchool here.

No doubt. Tyreek Hill was an even more rare WR when the Chiefs let someone else pay him and went on to win two Super Bowls.

But, while rare WRs can help, they aren't necessary to win Championships and can potentially hurt the roster build if given HUGE deals.

True point. But I like Nacua's impact more than Hill's. They had an all-world YOUNG Quarterback who was mobile. We have an old statue (no offense Matty) who needs his Big and Thick and Talented weapons.

Again, unless Nacua is a serial killer behind the scenes, im giving him the max, same as JSN, Contract, and happily.

I'm sure Rams put serious discussions with agents on hold until they knew exactly what would happen with Garrett since they've been working that angle for over a month. I doubt it would stop them from planning for the future internally. I'd bet a few of those names are signed by end of September.

Whew.

I thought this thread was going to discuss DANTE Fowler's opinion on Rams' extensions.

Enter Ty Simpson.

Might not be All-World, but he's mobile and would probably be the QB for the majority of a potential next deal for Puka or the next Rams stud WR.
