I think Herbert is brilliant. I'd be heavily pushing for him to take over from Stafford if I was McVay. The price would be steep though.

The Chiefs are just an average team with a superstar QB now. They'd be a 6 win team without Mahomes imo.

Sleazy move by Mahomes? Hard to say IMO.

Mahomes was still in bounds. So the defender should have crushed him. Perhaps Mahomes, becuase he was still in bounds, was expecting contact and played it accordingly. I don't think it is fair to say Mahomes knew, or should have known, that the defender was pulling up or going to pull up. The game happens so fast. And QBs are processing 1000 things at once. Even on replay, it is not obvious beyond all doubt (until the very end, that is, when it is too late for Mahomes to change course anyway) that the defender is not going to play the body. So how could it have been that clear to Mahomes live mid-play? I don't think it is as bad as people are saying. I do appreciate, at the same time, that this would be frustrating for the Charters and their fans.

I agree the league needs to stop babying QBs. Stop flagging every hit on them, and defenders won't be pulling up due to fear of penalty, and plays like this will be avoided. And QBs won't be able to cheaply "play the sideline". Bogus roughing the passer penalties can change the game too. Bad situation all around to be babying QBs. It does nothing but hurt the game. Protecting and babying are not the same thing. You can protect without babying.

If the QB becomes a runner, he should be treated the exact same as a RB or WR that is running with the football in their hands.

Didn't Ramsey hit Geno Smith near the sideline one year while barely in bounds and still got flagged? Smith initiated the contact by running forwards straight at him.

Defenders don't know what to do when it comes to qbs.

On further review Ramsey hit him out of bounds but Smith ran straight into him.

Mahomes was running out of bounds, then turned upfield at last second to lay the hit. It was calculated. If the QB is heading OOB, the refs will say he has "given himself up" and hit defenders with a PF if they tattoo em.

Similar play just before that where defender tagged him pretty good, but it was a yard further inbounds. You can see Mahomes talking to the ref right after. Probably whining about no flag.....

I think this might be accurate. Great HC, QB and TE. Not much else.

I also think the organization and team is a bit tired(literally) from all the deep runs.
