Cleveland Browns: 5 reasons Browns, Baker Mayfield will upset LA Rams
by Nick Dudukovich

Five reasons the Cleveland Browns will upset the LA Rams on Sunday Night Football, hopefully getting a share of first place in the AFC North in the process.

The Cleveland Browns are right back in another big game, hosting the LA Rams at FirstEnergy Stadium for Sunday Night Football. The line favors the Rams by 3.0 points mid-week, which is good, because at least a tight game is being expected between the Browns and defending NFC champions.
This game is huge for the Browns because the AFC North was blown wide open with the news that Ben Roesthlisberger is now out for the season. With the Bengals expected to dwell in the cellar, the division looks like it should come down to the Ravens and the Browns.

While Cleveland has a tough test this week, Baltimore is up against it as well, playing Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. If things play out the way we think they should, Mahomes should deliver Lamar Jackson his first lost of the season. As for the Browns, what better way to make a statement than to beat the Rams, who are on the favorite, proving that all of the offseason hype was justified.

A victory here, along with a Ravens loss, would see the Browns tie Baltimore heading into the quarter-poll of the season. And the two teams happen to play each other in Week 4. Here’s five reasons the Browns can get it done, upsetting the defending NFC champs at home in primtime.

Connor Kupp, huh?

If we win this game, I’m pretty sure it would be our first win on NBC’s current version of “Sunday Night Football”.

Something about Al Michaels calling one of our games makes me nervous.

Ya were cursed playing on SNF considering our losses @CHI and PHI. If you told me the Rams and Browns were facing off on primetime 4 years ago, even I would be laughing.

It would be a mistake to underestimate any NFL team, and certainly including the Browns who now have serious talent in more than a few positions. What they don't have is a proven coaching staff, experience and consistency. What they do have is enough ability to put up a real fight.

Can't let Garrett and OBJ run amuck. Need to pressure and trap Mayfield into downfield mistakes.

If the Rams play with poise, and don't make key mistakes to give Cleveland and its fans emotional confidence or momentum, we are the better team.

Oh, and to hell with any past SNF record. I'm really glad the Rams don't have to travel east and play a morning game with a bio rhythm interrupted qb.

The Browns are 1-9 on SNF. Something has to give.

Rams vs. Browns 2019 Prediction: Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Upset Los Angeles In NFL Week 3
By Anthony Riccobono @tony_riccobono
09/18/19 AT 3:37 PM

Cleveland Browns’ bandwagon appears to be significantly less full than it was at the start of the 2019 NFL season. All it took was a Week 1 loss and a less than inspiring Week 2 victory against an awful opponent for one of the league’s preseason darlings to face declining expectations.

Hosting the Los Angeles Rams on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 1, the Browns find themselves as three-point underdogs, according to the betting line at OddsShark. That means Cleveland is considered to be six points worse than Los Angeles on a neutral field, even though the two teams didn’t have very different Super Bowl odds at some sportsbooks before the season began.

A lot has changed over the last few weeks. The Browns were blown out by 30 points in their home opener. Baker Mayfield was picked off three times in that contest. The second-year quarterback wasn’t overly impressive in Week 2, completing fewer than 55 percent of his passes and posting a mediocre 83.6 passer rating.

Cleveland gave up 43 points to the Tennessee Titans. There’s nothing special about holding the New York Jets and their third-string quarterback to three points.

L.A. is the favorite in the NFC. The Rams have gone undefeated since losing in February’s Super Bowl, winning on the road in Carolina and defeating the New Orleans Saints, who had the conference’s best championship odds before Drew Brees got hurt.

There was no value in betting on the Browns when they were thought to be one of the AFC’s top contenders. Now that expectations have seemingly plummeted, it makes sense to pick a team that still has plenty of talent.

Browns starting Right OT Chris Hubbard (ankle) is in a walking boot.

Cleveland's pass-pro has been their Achilles' heel through two weeks and it doesn't get any better with Hubbard out for the foreseeable future. Justin McCray was benched in Week 1 after singlehandedly allowing four pressures, a hit and one sack but the team has no choice but to slide him back in at right tackle (at least in the interim). The Rams' defense is in play as a Week 3 streamer.

Playing dirty or not, Myles Garrett will be a problem for us. Mark him down for one sack at least but we need our o-line to come up big in this one. We need to get the run game going early and Goff needs to come out of the gate fast in this one.

Browns have some talented players but they don't have an identity or depth. Rams dominate this one imo

A number of Browns starters weren’t able to practice Wednesday as the team began its preparations for Sunday night’s showdown with the defending NFC champion Rams.

Linebacker Christian Kirksey (chest), right tackle Chris Hubbard (foot), defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi (ankle), safety Morgan Burnett (quadriceps), safety Damarious Randall (concussion), tight end David Njoku (concussion/wrist) and linebacker Adarius Taylor (ankle) did not participate in Wednesday’s practice, which began roughly 36 hours after the team’s Monday Night Football victory over the Jets “We are still kind of playing it by ear,” Browns coach Freddie Kitchens said. “We will see how those progress during the course of the week.”

The Browns got a handful of reinforcements with the return of running back Dontrell Hilliard, who was out Monday with a concussion, and wide receiver Rashard Higgins, who missed the game with a knee injury and was limited Wednesday. The Browns have had to fill multiple spots on special teams along with their pass-catching running back role during Hilliard’s absence and have missed Higgins as a reliable option as the third wide receiver.

“We like good football players,” Kitchens said. “We feel like Hig is a good football player.”
Without Njoku, who took a nasty fall when he was up-ended in Monday’s first quarter, the Browns are a little thin on experience at tight end. Veteran Demetrius Harris played the lions’ share of snaps after Njoku’s injury while Pharaoh Brown and Ricky Seals-Jones saw increased playing time.

“David is a good player so definitely him being limited right now or whatever presents problems for us,” Kitchens said. ‘This game in the National Football League is about attrition so you have to deal with it on your side and other teams do, as well. We will get the next guy in there and make sure he knows what to do. When somebody goes down, that is another opportunity for someone else so we will see how it goes.”

Its just like how we were all worried about Vinovich before the NFCCG since we have a bad record with him officiating. I realize anything can happen but a Sean Peyton coached Teddy Bridgewater Saints are tougher than Kitchens/Mayfield Browns. Itll be competitive up until halftime then we will pull away. But that's just my opinion.

Brown has had some issues with their OT cadre early this season.

Starting LT Greg Robinson has remained in full health but the Browns benched their starting RT Justin McCray after week#1 with reserve RT Chris Hubbard. However Hubbard is hurt & in a walking boot & is not practicing. The current swing reserve OT Kendall Lamm did not practice today is dealing with a knee injury. The emergency OT is OG Justin McCray.

The interior OL'ers are healthy. Ex Bear Eric Kush waived a few seasons ago by the Rams is the starter @ RG. Joel Bitonio starts @ LG with J.C. Tretter starting @ center.

I find the match-up of Dante Fowler Jr. vs GRob interesting. I wonder what both Aaron Donald & Micheal Brockers have to say to Dante about GRob's weakness. Our five player defensive front ( Fowler/ Donald/SJD/ Brockers/ Matthews) should do very well particularly from the outer edges against these OT & a short QB who likes to roll out & throw in order to see.

I wonder how much help Browns WR KhaDarel Hodge has been in preparing the Browns for the Rams.

NFL Week 3 Betting Market Report: Rams vs. Browns seeing lopsided action on key number

The Action Network
Yahoo SportsSep 18, 2019, 5:03 PM

Rams at Browns: This game is fairly similar to the Rams-Panthers Week 1. The Rams are 3-point road pooches and are quite a popular pick. However, the key difference is that the Panthers had sharp bettors on their side that were able to move the line from +3 to +1.5. While we have seen sharp support come in on Cleveland at +3, it hasn’t been enough to budge the line off the key number.

Rams (91%) at Browns: I told you the Rams were quite a popular pick! If sharp bettors weren’t coming in on Cleveland, I reckon the line would be up to -3.5 or -4 with this amount of support.
