I think teams thought he could only run a couple of routes. And he was kind of stiff in his movements. I dunno, he may have been a high chance of busting. Having said that he landed in the perfect place, just run downfield and wait for the green midget to escape the pocket and throw the ball your way.

I haven't watched any of their games so i don't know if they need him to run many different routes.

.

Yeah, when Wilson gets to scrambling and plays break down... not as impressive. And... I have seen a few of those. Even so, it usually involves Metcalf being more physical to beat his man.

He seems to have cleaned up some early drops from last year, too.

He is just a super physical WR and scares you differently compared to Kupp/Woods type weapon.

All the teams have flaws.

What gives me hope is that, I don't think our flaws are from a lack of
personnel. We have the talent, we just need to play better offensively.

I feel like our defense is still on a upswing and could be even better
by playoff time. If Jordan Fuller can remain healthy and Robinson
shows up, this Defense can become as stout as we've seen under
McVay. I am lovin the hell out of Staley and what he is doing.

I'm calling for 6 sacks Sunday. What do ya'll think? Shall we deep fry a Seachicken named Russell?

This is a game to watch these “strategies” coming together....

Seattle’s poor pass defense vs Rams desire to be run heavy.

Yeah.... this is a match up I am really watching these game plans... what is McVay thinking going into this?

No doubt, he hears the outcry to run the ball after that Miami game... but does that make sense in this one?

So, McVay; your move...
I would still like to see them running the ball and setting Jared
up, to do what he does best. Play action and rolling out.

Opposing View: Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll on the Rams' "unique" defense
Nov 12, 2020 at 09:50 AM
Screen Shot 2019-08-06 at 6.27.06 PM

Stu Jackson
Staff Writer

From 2017-19, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll prepared for the same Wade Phillips-led Rams defense. This year, Carroll and Seattle are gearing up for a "unique" Brandon Staley-led Los Angeles defense.

"I think he's doing a really good job. He's got his own way of doing it," Carroll said of Staley during a conference call with Rams beat writers on Wednesday. "They look unique, which is always good and so you have to learn them and adapt to them. It's not like it's a cookie cutter group, like somebody else does it. He's been influenced really well by other coaches, but I really like what he's doing."
Sunday's Week 10 matchup between the two teams will pit the NFL's No. 1 scoring offense (Seattle) against the NFL's No. 2 scoring defense (Los Angeles). Seattle is averaging 34.3 points per game through their first eight games; Los Angeles has allowed 19.0 per game during that same span.

As those numbers might indicate, they reflect an offense capable of generating explosive plays and a defense that has limited them in the first half of the season.

Sharp Football Stats, which defines an explosive run as 10 yards or more and an explosive pass as 15 yards or more, says the Seahawks have had 26 explosive runs on 193 rushing attempts; at 13 percent, that average explosive run rate is seventh-highest in the league (the Browns are No. 1 with 18 percent). Meanwhile, Seattle's 28 explosive passes on 321 pass plays (nine percent) rank 17th in the NFL.
Conversely, the Rams have allowed 17 explosive runs on 192 run plays (nine percent average rate) and 16 explosive passes on 301 pass plays (five percent average rate); those rates are fifth-lowest and lowest respectively in the league.

"They're able to keep the explosives down and take advantage of one of the best players ever, ever, in (DL) Aaron Donald," Carroll said. "He's off to another great season, 9.0 sacks already. He's had a bunch of close ones too. He could've had 20 probably already."

Beyond Donald's disruption at the line of scrimmage, the Rams have also taken advantage of having All-Pro and Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey in the secondary.

Carroll said the Rams are using Ramsey "like their best player," moving him around the defensive backfield and matching him up with different players. It reminded Carroll of the way the Cardinals deploy their own star cornerback Patrick Peterson.

"Jalen (Ramsey) can do everything and he's a playmaker, he plays with great confidence and all of that too," Carroll said. "Again, I think that this is a really smart team and they use their players well and this is an illustration of how they do that."

Also irt Carrol saying the Rams' defense is unique... A lot of teams are playing quarters this season. Where the Rams really deviate is the flexibility they have on the back side and largely due to Ramsey.

I'm really eager to see how well this secondary can handle a very explosive passing game. This one's gonna require a full 11 effort and I think they're up for it. :horns: :horns:

I need to go look back at the 2019 draft...

How in the hell did DK Metcalf get past everyone? 788yds, 8 TD’s thru 8 games... damn.

In the games I’ve seen this year of him, I am not sure there is another WR I’d rather have right now. Dude is a stud.
I was very unhappy when they drafted him. Like when the niners drafted V Davis and P Willis.
DK is a freak.

The explosive run rate is a very misleading stat. Most of those explosive runs
came from Wilson scrambling. Out of their 8 big run plays ( Big = 20+ yard run) only 3 came from the RB position.
Both of their RB's are banged up as well.

Seems to me that many if not most of Wilson's deep passes come after off-schedule scrambles extending the play, during which at some point the coverage in the secondary breaks down. Rams really need to avoid this.

Wilson is still a threat in on-schedule passes, but Seattle will not win the game on these plays.

exactly, if i see a db get beat deep on a scramble play i'm gonna lose my shit. let that little green fuck run for 10 yards and let the dline get after him the next play. having said that i'm believing the rams won't let that little green fuck escape the pocket. there's no matthews and fowler for him to exploit. floyd will contain on his side and it better be drilled into whoever mans the other side.

I like our chances with pressure from AD and the rest of the front, and Ramsay/Williams backed by Johnson/Fuller.

Those guys in the back have been tough. Don't expect them to be losing track of their assignments at this stage. But they still have to execute.

Starting at 4:25 is coverage on Seahawks offense.
The thing I love about this video is that it shows that even the
future hall of famer Russell Wilson can look terrible at times.

Definitely a strong case to come after Wilson, test their oline... And... pass the ball on their secondary.

Seattle Seahawks: 4 Bold Predictions For Week 10 Vs Rams

The Los Angeles Rams know they have a big opportunity this weekend. After racing to a 6-0 start this season, the Seattle Seahawks have lost two out of their last three games, the latest being a 44-34 road loss to Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in Week 9. While the Seahawks’ offense remains one of the best in the NFL with Russell Wilson still playing at an MVP-caliber level, their losses to the Arizona Cardinals and Bills showed that he can’t save them every game, especially with a defense that so far ranks among the worst in NFL history.

That defense will once again be tested when Seattle goes back on the road to face the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium for the first time this season. The Rams are coming off a bye week and are eager to bounce back after a 28-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 8 in quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s first NFL start. A game between the 6-2 Seahawks and the 5-3 Rams could have important consequences in the NFC West standings, especially with the 5-3 Cardinals and 4-5 San Francisco 49ers not far behind in the league’s most competitive division.

Seattle and Los Angeles have usually played close games against each other, with five of their last eight matchups being decided by six points or fewer. Here are four things that could happen when the Seahawks go on the road again to face the Rams:

1. Russell Wilson will bounce back and throw three touchdowns

It’s rare for Wilson to be outplayed by an opposing team’s quarterback this season, but that’s what happened last week when Allen burned the Seahawks defense by completing 31 of 38 passes for 415 passing yards and three touchdowns in their 44-34 victory. The 31-year old Wilson, meanwhile, had a sub-par game by his standards, completing 28 of 41 passes for 390 passing yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

If the seven-time Pro Bowler wants to have a bounce back game, he’ll have to do it against a Rams defense that has allowed an average of just 291.9 yards through eight games, the second best mark in the NFL. Brandon Staley’s defense has also been stingy in the air, allowing just 197.1 passing yards per game, which also ranks second in the league, so Wilson and the Seattle offense will have their work cut out for them, especially against defensive end Aaron Donald, who has sacked him eight times in the teams’ last five meetings.

With the Seahawks likely missing running backs Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde against Los Angeles, Wilson will need to be at his best for Seattle to even have a chance at picking up their seventh win. But after a sub-par game against Buffalo, the veteran signal-caller will be motivated against the Rams, especially knowing the implications of the game against a division rival.

2. D.K. Metcalf will have a big game against Jalen Ramsey

With 43 receptions, 788 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns so far, the 22-year Metcalf has emerged as the Seahawks’ top receiver this season. Fellow wide receiver Tyler Lockett has had more targets and receptions than Metcalf, but it is the former Ole Miss Rebel that has had more receiving yards, touchdowns, and has been more of a nightmare for opposing defenses.

He has had at least four receptions and 92 receiving yards in seven of the Seahawks’ first eight games, with the 6-foot-4, 235-pound wideout’s combination of size and speed being a problem for opposing cornerbacks. One player who could match up against Metcalf is Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who is smaller and has a slighter build at 6-foot-1 and 208 pounds, but has the speed to keep up with him and remains one of the best at his position.

Should Staley choose to put Ramsey on Metcalf, then it could be the game’s most interesting match-up. But the Rams defensive coordinator declined to confirm if that will be the team’s strategy, although that didn’t prevent him from anticipating what should be an interesting matchup.

“This is going to be a great chess match between these two guys, if they line up near each other. This is what gets you excited about pro sports, is to see two elite players square off against one another. These two guys are as good as I think that I’m seeing right now in the NFL at their positions.”

3. The defense will do just enough to slow down Jared Goff and the Rams’ offense

While the Seahawks offense ranks as one of the best in the NFL, their defense currently ranks among the worst in league history. The Seattle secondary allows 362.1 passing yards per game, which is 51 more yards than the second worst mark by the 3-6 Atlanta Falcons, and the worst mark in Super Bowl history. In Week 9, Allen and the Bills clearly exploited that weakness, and as a result scored 44 points against Seattle, the most points they’ve given up this season.

The Rams, like the Seahawks, have one of the league’s best offenses, averaging 396.4 yards per game, which ranks sixth in the league. But in their previous game against the Dolphins, the offense put up just 17 points, with quarterback Jared Goff completing just 35 of 61 passes for 355 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Goff has typically done well against the Seahawks, passing for 240 yards in each of the Rams’ last four games against Seattle, with three of those games being wins.

With cornerbacks Shaquill Griffin and Quinton Dunbar likely to be sidelined, the Seahawks’ defense will have a tougher time against Los Angeles. But after coming off their worst defensive performance against the Bills, the Seahawks should put up a better effort on that end against the Rams, and with Wilson and their offense firing on all cylinders, they might not have to do that much.

4. The Seahawks win a close, high-scoring game

With two of the league’s best offenses taking the field, the game between the NFC West rivals is expected to be a high-scoring affair. The Seahawks and Rams have also typically played close games against each other, and Goff expects a similar game this season.

“We’ve always really seemed to have really close games. It’s really been one-score, last-drive, last-play type of games with them always, every year. They’re a great team. It’s always a good game, and always exciting.”

Los Angeles, however, has seemingly had Seattle’s number in recent years, as they hold a 4-2 record over the Seahawks during Sean McVay’s time as Rams head coach. But no one is playing better right now than Wilson, who gives the Seahawks a chance against almost every team. The Rams are coming off a bye week, giving McVay and the coaching staff more time to plan on stopping the Seahawks offense.

But in a high-scoring game that likely goes down the wire, it’s hard to bet against Wilson and the Seahawks, especially after coming off a disappointing loss to Buffalo. In a highly-entertaining game, they should emerge with their seventh win of the season, which should give them some separation in what has become a tight race to win the division.

1st, these are not bold. They are what 90% of talking heads believe. 2nd, Wilson throwing 3 TDs won't be that big of deal. Its what he does. 3rd, the idea that that D will slow down the Rams is wrong.
