Los Angeles Rams: A

Biggest move: Retaining QB Matthew Stafford
Move I liked: Receiving a future first-round pick in a draft-day trade with Atlanta
Move I disliked: Re-signing WR Tutu Atwell

The Rams' offseason was great because it involved moves that will help the team win now and later.

The offseason began with rumors that Stafford could be leaving, and the Rams granted him permission to talk to other teams to discuss his value. Though Stafford had conversations with the Giants and Raiders, he ended up re-signing with Los Angeles on a reworked deal that pays him a fully guaranteed $40 million in 2025 and a non-guaranteed $40 million in 2026. That's a good value for the team, considering Stafford's ability.

This seemed well-played by the Rams, who to some degree called Stafford's bluff. Stafford got more money from them than he previously was slated for, but they were able to keep a top quarterback at an affordable price.

The team also made two other high-priced moves to support its QB. Most notably, the Rams signed wide receiver Davante Adams to a two-year deal that averages $22 million per season (and includes $26 million fully guaranteed). At 32, Adams is not the player he once was, though he managed 2.1 yards per route run last season and his open score in ESPN's receiving metrics was a more-than-respectable 77.

There are no guarantees, but I like this move, especially coupled with the team's decision to release Cooper Kupp. He is also 32 but is three years removed from his latest 1,000-yard season. The Rams were right to move on.

L.A. also re-signed left tackle Alaric Jackson to a three-year deal that averages under $18.8 million per year with $35.4 million fully guaranteed, per Roster Management System. Jackson has become a plus starter at tackle and was above average last season in pass block win rate and run block win rate.

The Rams also scored big in the trade market. Most notably, they traded down with Atlanta on draft night in a deal that netted Los Angeles picks 46 and 242 and a 2026 first-rounder for Nos. 26 and 101. This was a big score, as the Rams came away in great shape in terms of average value but with upside for much more. If the Falcons fail this season -- which is squarely in the range of outcomes -- the Rams will have netted themselves a very high pick. And with Stafford being 37 years old, that pick could help bring them his successor.

They also pulled a coup in trading guard Jonah Jackson to the Bears. The Rams were on the hook for $8.5 million in guaranteed money out of a total $17.5 million owed to Jackson -- whom the Rams tried to move to center before he suffered an injury and was later benched. At that price, Jackson was a potential cut candidate, and if he was going to be traded, I figured the Rams would have to eat a portion of the contract.

I figured wrong. The Bears came in and gave the Rams a sixth-round pick to take Jackson and the full contract off their hands.

Not everything was perfect, though. The Rams signed Atwell to a one-year, $10 million deal that had me wondering: Who was clamoring to pay him $9 million?

As much as I liked a lot of what we did there are things I feel we didn't do we should have like a change at LT and add a top end CB. The team however didn't want those things so I'll back them. I do like what we did though.

I will say I was surprised not getting a tackle or CB in the draft but will say I really like what he did outside of bringing Reeder back.

That said if Jackson becomes good to go we are at the very least going to the NFCCG.

Heavily dislike that we signed Shelton, Atwell, and Reeder. I thought all three moves were unnecessary; I don't even think Shelton will last the contract with us, and Limmer's right there, Atwell gives me another frustrating year where others expect me to use his stupid nickname, and Reeder is...Reeder.

But I loved the draft and the other signings - and letting go of certain players - was smart. I won't criticize them for re-upping A-Jax; nobody can predict blood clots and if/when they come, I don't think he'll be out the entire year/length of his contract, and he really was the best left tackle in free agency at the time of his signing, and we got him for a cheap deal with a reasonable term.

Overall, I think I'd rank it a B+/slight A-.

Not going to disagree but at least Atwell and Shelton are somewhat competent! Man Reeder just hurts me to watch him start and be on the field that much in the past. I pray Pooh or Landman gets it together where he’s only depth/ST’s at the most.

I did not have a problem with the Atwell signing, considering kupp was gonna be on his way out, but the price was kinda steep.
Atwell is gonna do well this year. He played well when kupp was out last season.

The signing of Adams is intriguing and and if it pops, look out. Heard he’s been working with Stafford voluntarily. NICE!

I like the Landman signing.

Fully supported the AJ contract, but it’s a shame his clot issue has resurfaced. Because the Rams signed him, I was not shocked the y didn’t draft a LT high. I did think they might pick one later and certainly a potential RT candidate. Weddig maybe?

Cant wait to get a look at this draft class.

Overall, I liked what the Rams tried to do this offseason and the extra #1 is the cherry on top. Go Rams!

Reeder is just some insurance—no guarantee he makes the team.

Shelton is a bit of a puzzle. It could be that Stafford is more comfortable with him. If he just anchors better, he could surprise.

Atwell's stats show he is worth the money. I don't see anyone being able to cover him on short routes without giving up the long ball. In today's NFL, the money they gave him is fine. He can step in at any WR spot. He is always a deep threat that defenses have to account for.

Even without a stud CB, the defense is going to eat.

I must have missed where Reeder got this big contract, thus making him this big off-season commitment that will result in big ramifications if he doesn't work out.

I don't know what Atwell did in a previous life but man!

Rams draft Atwell
Many Rams fans go ballistic because they passed on Creed Humphrey
Atwell plays in 8 games and doesn't have a reception
Rams win Superbowl (without Humphrey)

Atwell has a pedestrian second year.
Kupp gets injured, Stafford gets injured, Donald gets injured
Chiefs win Superbowl
Many Rams fans, say "we should have drafted Humphrey"

Rams draft another WR, Puka Nacua (probably to replace Atwell) Kupp misses the first 4 weeks of the season
Atwell, with 18 career catches has 22 for 270 yards and a TD while Nacua has 39 for 501 and a TD.
Rams make the playoffs but get bounced by the Lions
Chiefs win the Superbowl ("maybe we should have drafted Humphrey")

Rams draft another WR (definitely to replace Atwell)
Kupp misses games 3 through 6, Puka misses games 2 through 6
Atwell has 23 receptions for 332 yards from week 2 though 6
Rams make the playoffs, beat Minnesota and take Philly to the brink before falling
Philly wins the Superbowl (nobody mentions Creed Humphrey)

Rams draft another WR (now this one has got to replace Atwell)
Instead Kupp is released, as clearly Nacua is the Rams go-to guy at WR and they sign Davante Adams and inexplicably sign Tutu to a 1 year $10 mil contract.
Some Ram fans don't believe that should have been done. Then West Coast Ram posts a chart that shows Puka is the most productive receiver in the NFL in 2024 and lo and behold, Tutu is ranked #12.

Still, Tutu better be gone next year!!!!

:ROFLMAO:Just having some fun fellas

I give the off season grade an "A"
Best move: Signing Davante Adams
Move I liked: Drafting another couple of beasts with great motors on the D
Move I disliked: Cutting ties with Kupp (though I do understand)

Always appreciate your contributions, but I disagree about Atwell and Shelton. Atwell's on a one year deal and without him we have no speed on the outside (Puka, Adams, Whit). If we overpaid on a one-year by 2-3 million in a year we're not up against the cap going in (rare for McSnead), so be it. If we didn't sign him, we'd need to sign another speedy vet. By all accounts, he's a stand-up teammate, knows the system, and is a good Ram. I like that over the other options.

I'm not a fan of Shelton (as Reeder is in his own category), but the experienced depth is wonderful. And again, we're good capwise and it's not my money, so I don't see the downside of adding him (and don't care if he's a back-up as that would only mean Limmer developed at a high clip).
Why fret over other people's money.
We're better with these guys.

Dude Calm your tits. That isn’t the point is it?

Is it?

Obviously he signed a vet minimum.. is that supposed to be some kind of high level NFL knowledge your beaming down here?

This is exactly the mentality around here that has survived “but but he made that one good tackle…” :eyeroll:

Just saying you expected a change at Left Tackle without pointing out which other options were better than Jackson, is an unrealistic take. I hear that Santa Claus is up over 330 lbs after all of the cookies. Is that who they would sign or draft instead? Sometimes there aren't better options. In signing AJ, they got a good tackle relatively cheap.

Someone brought this up a few weeks ago. I pointed out that the best tackle options available where the Rams drafted , weren't very good choices. Same with Corner. The choices weren't great. Plus the Rams are very specific with character fit. I think it narrows the options quite a bit more in the draft. They did try to sign Awuzie in free agency, but he turned them down.

All joking aside. The Rams are back to square one with Coleman Shelton at center, meanwhile Tutu has never been higher than the fourth receiving option. A number four receiver with no more than one TD a year versus a four year starter, and All pro at center? Choosing Creed seems like more of a no brainer now than it did on the day the Rams drafted Atwell.

Yeah I have talked about other options in the past and do not feel like I need to rehash those comments over and over again. But go right ahead and be an ass about it if that's how you want to be.

He just might be a camp body, who has experience in the system. They brought in 3 other MLB's. So I don't get why people are upset with his signing. It's a near non event.

There wasn’t any other better options. Just saying you want there to be doesn’t make it so.

Yeah, everyone should be forced to use the name they were given at birth, don’t you think?
