And was usually a weak link but had players like Donald, Ramsey, Miller and Floyd around him.

Hey, I am hoping for the best.

My concern is that ILB just went from an average position to a weakness that will be exploited.

Hope I am wrong. Pray I am.

Agree. No way this trade was because it would make the Rams better THIS SEASON. It IS hard to make sense of this.

After all the speculation that has occurred, I offer this:
Yesterday I saw a brief video on YouTube. It was jones himself commenting on the trade.
1) he said his knee is good to go and that the team held him out of practice even though he could have participated.
—obviously, this doesn’t help trade value, but it does offer a better assessment of who will be able to fill the upcoming void.
2) he was surprised when he was told he had been traded.
3) he stated no contract had been offered and that he expected to play out the season as a Ram and then move on.

So…maybe jones was moved because he was well aware he would be playing in a lame duck year and the Rams didn’t think he could do that without poisoning the locker room. IF that was the case, I would say that’s pretty weak. Jones was drafted because he was a high character guy.

We all know the NFL is a business and I can’t imagine it’s much different for players on other teams when their contracts are ending and they realize they are not one of the must pay stars.

Maybe jones was chirping too much, but it would be unfair to assume that right now. Until another player comes forward with eyewitness accounts of what when on, we’re just never gonna know who is the villain in this story—if there was one.

We all know the NFL is a business and I can’t imagine it’s much different for players on other teams when their contracts are ending and they know they are not one of the must pay stars. There is a need to remain a professional because other teams are watching.

This is a perplexing story. I too, hope the Rams can cover for his absence with who’s left to play his position.

Players in their contract year usually play above and beyond to maximise their offers in free agency.

That's why they always say beware of a player that suddenly plays all pro on his contract year. Remember Albert Haynesworth?

So the Rams wouldn't have been worried at all about Jones dogging it.

Totally agree with you. That’s what makes this perplexing; especially when you consider jones was supposed to be a leader.

I don't think any player can play "above and beyond" his talent or ability simply because it's a contract year, but I do agree they can fuck off AFTER they get paid.

signed... Albert Haynesworth

The fact that the Rams haven’t made any moves at ILB lead me to believe even more that they think they’ve got their guy in Speights.

I understand why Reeder is named for now… but that’s an NFL move… not for long…

McVay proved he knew what he needed to win football games long before Mr Ernest Jones ever put on a Ram uniform.

Obviously, the Rams saw something they did not appreciate and promptly moved Mr Jones out the door.

I suspect McVay wil continue coaching a winning football team without the services of Mr Jones.
I think this had something to do with Shula. He may desire more coverage ability from his linebackers.
One thing kinda' intrigues me is everyone, pretty much without exception, thinks Reeder sucks, and yet Staley took him with him to the renters, and Raheem/Shula brought him back to the Rams.

Why is that? Incredible locker room guy, helps call signals/alignment, has pics... what?
I’m sure he’s a smart football player. As for his game he’s a cheaper version of Ernest Jones. He’s good straight ahead, not so good laterally.
Reasonable minds can disagree.
While reputation is an intangible, it can be measured at some point.
Whit saying the Rams have a good rep with players is a tangible thing.
Colin saying the same, that per his sources, players want to come here b/c of that rep is also tangible.
Contrast that with the Rams of 15 years ago where it was widely known that No One wanted to be a Ram.
This is measurable stuff. Player polls, agent comments, player comments, front office execs comments, etc. All things that Whit and Colin (two people in the know) have access to.

It's fine to question the organization. But I agree with Whit: their results are great. Trust has been earned.
I think St. Louis, and the Done played a part in the Rams not being a big free agent destination. I was happy about the move to LA for that reason alone. New stadium, LA brings more opportunity and fun.
I also wasn't a fan of Long and not expecting much.
We got Byron Young as the draft pick. I'm not sure of his ceiling so the jury is still out.
The jury is out but if what’s been said this summer is true, Young is about to take a big step toward raising his ceiling.

Damn, that bottom picture makes Ernest look like a popsicle
The EllenBooger Cult that was going on within ROD for a while was quite shocking and pretty pathetic when it happened not to long ago here.

People grasping at anything to try and be apart of something and ‘know’ somebody that has ‘inside’ information.

What they blindly didn’t realize is that ego centric clown with a mic was full of shit with his illusionist act that he was some sort of squishy faced prodigy.

Big Whit seen through his BS right away and tore him a new asshole.

And for Booger to have the audacity and question Big Whits knowledge like he’s somebody…. The fucking arrogance you have to have..

For those here that were-are part of the Cult, hope this shows you the other side of that Fake Snake Oil Salesman.
Strange. I don’t recall an Ellenbogen cult here. I just seem to remember a certain off the rails tirade spewed against him. :zany1:

Lots of people have YouTube channels. Nobody has watch them.
The Locked On Rams podcast is one of the few I actually listen to. Generally through Sirius XM on my computer at work while I work. About to catch up on last two days actually. But they are a good listen. Knowledgeable about the Rams like true fans would be, goes over any event that has happened with the team, gives opinions based on facts and without emotion, and doesn't bad mouth the team. I recommend them for anyone wanting a Rams centric podcast.
Too many commercials for my short patience
Yeah, you're a good poster, no doubt, but "fleeced" is flat-out nonsense.

A 3rd round LB who is good, but certainly not a top 10 player, with a knee issue on the last year of his deal.

Tell me what you think he should've gotten for EJ and I'll go look up comps to see.

Did he get slightly less value than he could have if this happened earlier in the offseason? Maybe, sure.. I'll go along with that.. but the idea that he got fleeced.. that he gave up a ton for nothing.. is silly.
Plus, around cutdown day is not an ideal time to get a good return.

I felt that when Owusu-Karamoah was in the draft that he’s a player McVay would love. They played the Browns last season and his sideline to sideline play ability was impressive. Maybe they thought, ‘I wish Ernest could do that’. Once they saw Speights play maybe they thought, “Now that’s the type of LBer we need, he’s like those guys in Cleveland.

Exactly
It's bizarre and we'll never know the true backstory, but one thing that is certain is that it doesnt make the team better now.

The problem lies in those that do watch his channel act like he is the Rams reporting God and anything else to the contrary of the all powerful Ellen Booger is blasphemy. Especially when that content posted here has often turned out to be either false, an easy guess where cult acts like he's some sort of prophet, or lead people on like acting some sort of surprise awaits them where they act like a simple Johnny clapping all excited

He's literally just a normal dude that acts like he has inside Rams organization sources. :eyeroll:

It really is amazing how humans act like cattle.

Alright. I'm going to call bullshit. There were a few guys on ROD that liked his stuff but some of us tried to help him because he really was an awful writer when he was starting out. I don't know if that has changed because I don't really pay attention to him. Of course I don't really follow any talking head.

But the idea ANYONE on here thought he was all knowing or even had great inside info, is bullshit. I also do not remember anyone coming unhinged if someone doubted his info. Did some defend him? Sure. Act like he was infallible? I can't recall a single instance of this happening.

You seem to like to gaslight us with claims that we either used to kick people off the site for minor shit or in this case, blindly following this dude.

Not sure what you get out of that, but it kind of pisses me off. Quit wagging your finger at the members here with these bullshit claims.

I’ve been tuning into Rams Showcase as of late. A small channel but laid back, informative and a bit more grounded. Likeable enough host.

View: https://youtu.be/HnJAi52DwcU?si=R79EPY4fc-Cn4Y2S

Not a host that is so hyper focused on himself and what he said and got right etc blah blah. That shit got tiring quick on a certain channel being discussed in this thread.
