Eric Weddle and the HOF

Dude was probably going to make it anyway - but did coming out of retirement and winning a ring make him a first ballot no brainer?

And has there ever been a story like this? Guy is one of the best in the league - has a great career but never gets the ring. Retires. 2 years later is called and get to make a run and finally gets it? And it’s not like he was just on the team - arguably, we don’t beat SF without him. Unreal story - one of many.

When it comes to the HOF, safeties are usually in for a long wait. ex. Steve Atwater and LeRoy Butler.

Being part of a championship team will help Weddle. Earl Thomas might be ahead of him though.

I will gladly admit that I was dead wrong about bringing Weddle back. The defense played a lot better with him on the field.
The gutsy performance in the Super Bowl made a believer out of me. You could see the pain on his face with every tackle. Respect

It's been percolating with me about EW. He's an inspiration for people who think you are too old and past due, skills wise. This team is worthy of a Hollywood movie, but no one's story more so than Eric Weddle. I'm so proud of him for giving it all after being retired for two years. He wasn't seeking a ring and not one team would have taken him on their roster before the playoffs, but Raheem Morris thought of him after both Safeties got injured.
He was ready when greatness was required, jumping off the couch to fill in and CONTRIBUTE. It just blows my mind and that's why I asked @CGI_Ram to reinstall his Mood option. I'm in a Weddle, state of mind.

Every big move paid off. Stafford became the answer. Michel saved a dire RB situation. Miller and OBJ (once they got acclimated) pushed the Rams over the line. Finally Weddle coming in to settle the back line. Brilliant I say. Just Brilliant. Note: I didn’t see DivaJax as a big move but rather a decoy/gadget player.

I have always been envious about that story of Ronnie Lott telling the trainers to amputate his fingertip to go back in the game. Always irritated me to know those old 9er teams were better than our teams in that era in toughness as well as wins. We would play with them in the reg season but come the big game they always seemed to want it more.

That is the kind of performance EW just put up. He tore his pec early and finished that game. And just like the Lott fingertip that is going to be one of many new examples of Rams lore we will savor for years. Thanks for being an absolute pro EW.

Yeah, we're all going to remember EW's massive contribution to our Super Bowl win.
In many ways his on field excellence will rank up there with the Ricky Proehl and Isaac Bruce catches in the '99 season.
Looking forward to when Mr. Weddle dons the Gold Jacket.
Just hope he goes in as a Ram.

What Weddle did is just mind blowing to me. Nine tackles against the Niners, five against the Bengals. Played the Super Bowl with two torn pec muscles and made key plays.

Eric Weddle has alwuasbbeeb GREAT. His first season for us was less than stellar. What he did the last 4 games for us out of retirement completely cancels that whole season for us. He played unbelievable and made me completely eat crow. He played like the best S in football.

Thought I would "bump" this thread while we are in the Dog Days of Summer.
The Rams having another remarkable legendary story to their already acclaimed franchise history.
The legend of Eric Weddle.
This interview by Rich Eisen right after the Superbowl ,explaining how it played out, is hard to believe.
Think about this. He called his wife and asked her her thoughts. All she had to say was "no" and he would have declined.
He said he was on the fence, but she encouraged him and supported him. The rest is history. Again, another absolutely magical piece
of the puzzle that just happened, against all odds, to fall into place for the Championship to happen.
This is day 10,402 since the 49's won a Championship if you're keeping track (which I am). Everyone bags on the Cowboys
for having a long Superbowl drought, but the 49's are actually worse. How sweet is that?

Being a household name is going to help his chances in the HOF voting.
