Anyone know if “uniforms” were as big of “topic” for the other Franchises that changed their uniforms this year?
Meaning... it has caused a lot of angst among Rams fans. It seems you love them, or hate them. The wedge in the middle is small...
Is that the same reaction the other franchises got? Or more a Rams thing because our change was pent up anticipation for years?
Another thought; it seems we have a take-sides-society when it comes to opinions these days. Is that part of why the divide seems large? Pick a side, so to speak.
And lastly... they say younger people like them, older not as much. I wonder how true that is? And... if the Rams factored that into the choosing?
I don’t believe they were, but the Rams have been talking about this since the move, vs other teams were just like “surprise!” so it makes sense. Plus after everyone else’s uniform were released, there was nothing else for us to talk about, so I think it grew the hype significantly among our fan base in comparison to others.
Everything is polarized these days it seems, it’s either 0 or 10. Star Wars, Uniforms, MCU, etc etc etc. Personally my theory is that we’ve become so accustomed to politicizing everything that now everyone automatically just picks the extreme to easily divide into their camps whenever there is any split opinion. It’s a strange, and very annoying trend, and one that’s hard to not fall into, even if you’re aware of it.
From what I’ve heard, definitely. Les mentioned that his teenagers are particularly jacked about the new uniforms, and they said that they spoke and consulted with the players quite a bit over this. They want the players to feel good in them, (feel good, play good) and was talking with them throughout.
Whitworth was someone Demoff spoke to lot about in terms of tradition at LSU and their thoughts of the uniforms, as well as Robert Woods with USC. Whitworth said some of the uniforms in the league make big guys “look like popsicles” and ours don’t, which he appreciates. Woods mentioned how his first three years with USC they had to wear grey gloves, white socks, and black cleats, but his senior year the program allowed them to wear cardinal cleats and gloves and they all got super excited about it. He said he told all of his friends he thought these new Rams jerseys are the coolest jerseys he’s ever worn, and he’s really exited to wear them.
They also talked to Troy Hill in terms of what it was like at Oregon with all the new Nike stuff, and he said they all loved it, and Oregon actually used it as a recruiting tool to get players to sign with them. Players have mentioned they think free agents might be inclined to play for the Rams based on our uniforms, so it sounds like guys like it a lot. Hill also said that all the uniforms dropping were underwhelming, but when he saw ours he loved them, immediately began thinking of different combinations and got exited to play in them.
The Rams are also sort of “focus testing” these in the sense of different combinations, and will be listening to feedback. Similar to them quietly moving to the Rams head more vs the LA logo, if we saw we want bone tops and yellow pants, we’re likely to get it, so good news there.
