I thought we wanted a back with game changing speed.

Ya know, recently I went and looked up Eric Dickerson's pre-draft 40 yard time.

4.57

Hardly game-breaking speed, and yet somehow he seemed to have plenty of it when he broke one long run after another. The upshot is that you don't have to have blazing 40 times to be an explosive game breaker.

This kid has enough speed, has great balance, and breaks tackles like crazy. Get him to the next level in a one-on-one situation with a defender - I definitely like his chances. Go watch his long runs - one broken tackle after another, until there is nobody left.

Guy can run, guy can catch, guy can pass protect. Guy can explode. Whoever does end up with him his going to be damn glad they did.

He's a good back not saying he's not. But most every RB and even WR comments are we need more speed. He's not that, he's good he's just not speedy.

I think we need a deep threat at WR where speed comes into play.

Cam is just a great fucking runner and can break tackles in the open field better than anyone we have on the roster now.

man I like that kid, too. Great with screen passes as well. Plows over LB's.
If we don't get a "lightning" kinda RB, a "thunder" RB to pair with KW/BC would be incredible, one who could also stay on the field on 3rd downs.

This guy brings pain to would-be tacklers. That can pay dividends as a game wears on.

I think Golden will rise to round one. He doesn't have that lengthy frame teams want now outside, but he's got everything else and if he'd been in a better offense I'd say he would have done more. Not a fan of that Texas scheme or Ewers in general. I suspect Golden goes off in the 20s so would not surprise me if McVay went after him.

@Memphis Ram
Something I've been kicking around. Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely are both heading into their final years. Likely has emerged as a very promising TE this year. I imagine the Ravens will choose to re-sign him. I'm very intrigued by the idea of trading for Mark Andrews. A 3rd might get it done. Running 12 personnel with him and Higbee could be potent next year. (Assuming Higbee stays healthy.) If we're looking to go push our chips in for next year, it's a move that makes sense.
I have coveted Andrews since he came out. So if the Rams were to do that I'd be behind it.

That said I'm a huge fan of Fannin. I think he is one player who, if McVay were to get him, would be unstoppable. And he fits man. He fights his ass off in blocking. He does a ton of little things well. And he has that knack of consistently being open to handle a high volume and move the offense. McVay needs a slot stud and there are many options into round 3 but Fannin IMO is a blue chip impact stud in this offense.

This game of his vs Penn St shows his game translates.

Another possible intriguing day three option at nose.

You know what that dude's nickname will be if we get him: "Nutmasher!"

I loved the tape I saw of Skattebo. He's got great contact balance and is hard to bring down.

I'd don't think he would qualify as our 3rd down back though b/c he's spotty in pass protection. One profile said that while he loves punishing rushers, he's sometimes slow to diagnose who he should be blocking. KW excels in that regard, so I doubt McVay would trust him on 3rd downs...at least not in his rookie season or until he improves.

No trades got a CB1 an X a future RT an ILB who would eventually pair with Speights a speedy back that's very nice a DT to rotate in that's a space eater and a TE to work in. Who knows if by draft time these slots are realistic but this is a nice no trade mock.

Unless you think he can become a legitimate threat as a move TE, I don't think spending a first makes any sense. Now, if McVay thinks he can develop Milroe as a QB, hell yeah, spend a first.
That's a part of the Taysom Hill role of which I meant.

Draft Blog: Standouts from Day 1 of Shrine Bowl

Published: Jan 25, 2025 at 01:00 PMUpdated: Jan 25, 2025 at 01:00 PM

January 25 - Who stood out from day one of Shrine Bowl practices?
Practices for the 100th annual East-West Shrine Bowl began on Saturday morning at the University of North Texas, with plenty of scouts and media on hand to evaluate upcoming draft talent. Here's who stood out:

East Team:

Montrell Johnson, RB - Florida

Johnson displayed good vision and burst out of the backfield in day one of practice and wasn't taken down after first contact. He's not the fastest guy at top end speed, but is smart about how he navigates behind his blockers to gain yards and that was on full display.

Tyler Baron, EDGE - Miami
It felt like every time Baron had a pash rush in 11-on-11 play, he won it and got pressure on the quarterback. Baron explodes at the line of scrimmage on every snap, and his length mixed with an arsenal of pass rush moves allowed him to live in the backfield plenty during practice.

Cobee Bryant, CB - Kansas
Bryant's length allows him to do a lot in coverage, and that was evident in practice as he kept receivers glued to him for most of the day when lined up 1 on 1. Combined with his athleticism, Bryant was active around the ball and broke up several passes making life very difficult for opposing receivers. - Tommy Yarrish

West Team:

Konata Mumpfield, WR - Pitt

Even on day one, Mumpfield jumped off the page with athleticism and technique. Showed good route running and soft hands with a few catches in traffic during team drills. Especially with new quarterbacks and different cornerbacks in coverage, it was impressive to see.

Gus Hartwig, IOL - Purdue

Saturday was a great day to evaluate the one-on-one drills in the trenches. Hartwig was the most impressive of the bunch on day one. His technique and hand placement was sound, stayed planted with a strong base and impressive first punch. He continued that success into a solid team period performance as well.

CJ West, IDL - Indiana
The most entertaining portion of the entire practice was when West battled with his Big Ten counterpart Gus Hartwig in one-on-ones. West was the only defensive player to have success against Hartwig, as he dominated everyone else on the offensive line. West was a key figure in the Hoosiers' playoff run, and he looked the part in real time Saturday. - Kyle Youmans

Cobee Bryant would be interesting but the dude makes Tutu look thick.
