Wife just said it was released that he was walking down 595 and hit by a dump truck. My guess is the dump truck was oversized and sticking outside the lane. Not sure why he was walking down a highway...but that's a bad way to go out.

Trucker here. Dump trucks don't run over size, unless they're on the back of a lowboy being transported to a mine or some other job site that requires huge machinery. From what I've read, Haskins was hit by a dump truck while trying to cross the west bound lanes of 595. There's a ton of road construction down there at the moment. Probably just a standard dump truck carrying dirt or asphalt.

It's stated that he ran out of fuel, and was hit while crossing the westbound lanes, so maybe he made it to the median and tried to cross the road onto the shoulder on foot. It's odd for him to be headed eastbound and then try to cross the westbound lanes.

Sad day overall, and you know that driver has to live with that for the rest of his life.

Yea, bad wording on my part. What I meant was that the truck might have been oversized due to the road being narrower bc of construction, etc. Roads down there are crazy, and the drivers are even crazier.

But low blood sugar will do it. You can go into a coma from this and the period before blackout is a desperate horrible need for sugar, where you lose your composure and do rash things for relief. I sometimes get this way and I have worked it out with my wife what I need if Iask for help.
Same here, @Loyal . Never really had an issue till recently with low blood sugar (no insulin, just pills). I was not thinking straight. Started to fall down, loose my balance. My brain said get to your chair in the living room. I'm in the kitchen and tried to go through the kitchen, the dinning room and into the living room. I cut myself up and bruised myself pretty good with that little trick. Broke a chair and a lamp when all I had to do was sit down on the floor in the kitchen but no, my brain said CHAIR, LIVING ROOM NOW!

It's really something I have to watch now so if Haskins did have a low blood sugar situation I could see him thinking he needed to get to the Stop and Rob across the highway.

Sometimes when I reflect when I was younger, I feel grateful I am still alive.
I was thinking the same exact thing and not only personally, but military too. It's sad to lose somebody so young and I pray for his family & loved ones to lean on their faith, each other or any other area for assistance.

Man, twenty-four is way too young to go. I hope his family and friends find solace in the memories they made with him. Rest in peace, Dwayne.

I wasn't really following the man's career but I was wondering if he was still on Washington's roster.

Still not knowing what happened.

Dwayne Haskins played for Urban Myer.Knowing that now makes me even more about what isn’t good about college football.Like I said I’m a Pete Carroll fan.of course as a Rams Fan I cheered against him a lot,but also a NFC West fan.
Haskins football career was weird to me,but thought he had a chance to be an ok NFL QB.In any player there is a risk vs. reward in a players value.
—Washington Football team had a chance to do well in 2020.Haskins had a chance to make a NAME for himself in a successful way.He was Washington’s starting QB who were going to win the NFC East.
It was a shame he went to a Strip Club during a playoff type week.A rookie QB should be straight into game planning. Obviously he learned from the best.He might of even wore a OHio St. Shirt just to represent.

SAD to think playing football didn’t mean that much to him.He has the talent just like J. Mar. Russell did.

Finding Mike Tomlin as his HC & playing behind Big Ben seemed to be a good landing spot. M. Vick finished his career there.

Just to finish is Sean Mcvay has kept certain plays accountable & the mentoring means so much to The Rams success.

Yeah, Gil needs to retire with comments like that.
Yeah, and to think Schefter was lambasted for his original tweet, which, to me, wasn't inaccurate or derogatory. It paled in comparison to Brandt's comments.

Horrible tragedy. Condolences to his family.
I recall when we almost lost another good guy on the highway. Dick Van Dyke had a close call but lived. The freeways here in Los Angeles are unforgiving if you run out of gas or break down or worse, catch fire.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Dick Van Dyke is uninjured after his Jaguar caught fire while he was driving on a Los Angeles freeway.
California Highway Patrol officer Saul Gomez said Monday that the 87-year-old entertainer was not treated or cited at the scene.
The officer said witnesses reported the fire just before 2 p.m. Monday and said that an elderly man was slumped over behind the wheel of the flaming car. Passers-by stopped to help the man, whom police and fire officials identified as Van Dyke.
Arlene Van Dyke posted a video online that showed her husband speaking with police officers and the remains of his burned-out car.

I will catch hell for it, but this is the Haskins I remember in DC (he grew up here).

Drunk/drugged driving with a woman other than his wife and ran out of gas. Play stupid games....

Yeah, I know... A man is dead!!! It's a tragedy!!!! How DARE you not write a hyperbolic post about how much you care...... Sorry, to me there are far more tragic losses to grieve.

I know you're probably aware of this, but that's kind of messed up. I don't think gatekeeping people's grieving because you didn't like the guy is a good look tbh.

That's fine. I feel for his family and friends, but I am not going to pretend that his death affects me. Also, I am not sure how I am "gatekeeping" anything, and I really don't know how much "grieving" a bunch of members of a message board who have never met the person can really do, but have at it. I am for more upset about the victims of all of these horrible mass shootings. That's just me though...

I agree 100% - His values were not all that good. His HC at Ohio st who wears a pink Ohio state polo shirt was a prime example of coaching at his bar after a Jags loss.

It’s sad , but even though the dump truck killed him. Having a cat hit him first. Then the dump truck never stopped ? The person must be devastated hitting him & seeing that.

Really sad & couldn’t even imagine. His wife was on top of things so there was concern there. The WR Clay fantasy let down had a quote though that Haskins might have been taking one for the team & put in a bad situation?
The thing is Haskin should have that emergency number the NFL gives players.Call triple A or a Uber? I’ve crossed many different highways or roads before wasted.
Long story short with a Life cut Short.Got to feel for those involved &
the support that was there.

All of us are.
The thing that gets me is some of the stories & life the victims left behind.
The blessing & life’s they shared with others. Some really wholesome Americans. In Buffalo character giving to others. In Texas just the pure innocence of such beautiful youth.
