How the hell did the refs miss that 2x! It's a big ass man leaping into the air and landing on our players!!

That's a still that doesn't depict what happened on the play. Here's the sequence frame by frame.

904tWcr.jpg

1. Catch by Reynolds tackled inside Saints 35. #76 trails the play on far right.

eaxqk78.jpg

2. So he doesn't crash into the pile while running full speed, #76 leaps over them.

I39UaEy.jpg

3. #76 looking down seeing that he's not about to land past Reynolds.

uEmv4qW.jpg

4. Here's the still pic that everyone is gasping at. But wait... there's more.

EYeeQOc.jpg

5. #76 splits his legs apart on landing to avoid stepping on Reynolds.

IxfkVen.jpg

6. Here #76 is trying to avoid putting his full weight on Reynolds.

xwrTgt2.jpg

7. Here he slides off of Reynolds, who was never hurt on the play.

That other Goff still pic was the same thing. I can provide another pic sequence again but I think I made my point that these actions by the Saints were not malicious in any way. The Rams players around the group aren't even running to break anything up. Situations like this happen when players are running full speed, and the Saints know they need to respect the Rams speed by trying to keep up with the play as fast as they can.

Your honor, I rest my case.

I have to say, at the last second he missed his head and both feet landed on either side of his head. But, that slow motion stop action photo angle, it really can play tricks. He didn't land on his head from what I saw. If I'm wrong, sorry guys.

He did, in fact, land on Reynold's head.

He jumped too far and missed Goff's left elbow.

I'll say it again. If there was a photo of Suh doing that, it'd be bigger news than the Super Bowl.

I saw both live and watched the replay both in real time and frame by frame and I respectfully and strongly disagree.

He was targeting guys to injure.

I saw live too and I have the video mp4. Interesting that it's the same Saints player involved. I'm looking at this objectively. I don't see evidence of a heavy hitting impact, but I do see some contact. I notice the Rams with the ball on each play get up normally not shaking anything off in regards to pain from impact.

But on this Goff play, wasn't there a video a few years back of a player using his foot kinda trailing off to step on another player? Can't recall where I saw it. Anyway, sequence pics below for those to judge. If using any to send to the league office no need to credit me. I just don't know that this is a huge deal. Maybe the guys to ask are Goff, Reynolds (from the other sequence) Whit, Higbee, and Everett who were involved or nearby.

1. #76 again running toward the play

2. #76 again leaps over the fallen players

3. These next 3 stills look damning as they are, but in real time... not as terrible.

nTkAoB4.jpg

4. Looks worse than in real time

1mJft3a.jpg

5. You can see his foot trailing behind and contacting. Impact weight hard to tell.

EL3AKgs.jpg

6. Right foot trailing and contacting on Goff as left foot lands past him.

Wc2vgvi.jpg

7. None of the Ram players appear to notice a cheap shot. Goff gets up not shaking his left arm at all.

What do others think? Just playing football... or rollerball? I don't want to make something out of nothing but I also don't want to ignore a possible cheap shot attempt that others point out. Again, when looking at in real time I see what's going on, I just don't know that on either play the Ram player was hit hard enough to cause injury, or to warrant as an attempt to injure when it could have gone worse. I can also make both of these into short gifs if asked. Or let it go?

I will say this.... I would love to have cheap shots (if they are proven) override the gifted non-PI narrative. We deserved to go to the SB regardless, I'm just sick of the Saints being seen as victims in some of these stories. (they're not victims even without these pics)

I lean more on the side of "we won, it's over, on to the SB."

It's easy when you know you got away with simulating a snap which induced a bad encroachment penalty and leads to a touchdown for your team on the next play.

Drew Brees set to count $33.5 million against the cap in 2019
Posted by Charean Williams on January 23, 2019

Saints quarterback Drew Brees announced earlier this week his intention to return for 2019. The Saints obviously want him back, but they also probably will want to reduce his salary cap hit.

Brees currently is scheduled to count a league-high $33.5 million against the Saints’ cap. His cap number is $4 million more than Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, who has the second-highest cap figure for 2019.

We’ll see what happens,” Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis said, via Josh Katzenstein of the Times-Picayune. “We know it’s coming at some point, and we’ve kind of kicked the can down the road a number of times, haven’t we?”

Brees, 40, signed a two-year, $50 million deal last March. He counted $24 million against the cap this season, but with restructures from previous contracts, Brees has more than $50 million due on the cap the next two seasons, per Katzenstein.

The Saints could restructure the deal, kicking the money down the road yet again if need be. Truth be told, the Saints probably go into a rebuild once Brees calls it quits anyway, so their window isn’t open much longer.

“We’ve got a lot of mechanisms to maneuver the cap,” Loomis said.

It's going to be a sad day for all of us when Brees hangs it up. I think that is the reason this loss was so sad for many of us. It just feels like the end, this was the last chance they had at making a run with him so late in his career. We never got back to the big game with him. Outside 2009, the Saints practically wasted Brees' entire prime by fielding god awful defenses year in and year out.

I was expecting him to retire if they won it all this year. Even without retirement, I don't think he has much time left. These last two years were the window to try and make one final SB run after flushing away all the opportunities between 2012 to 2016. They just blew it. I accept the loss, but I feel bad for him. He deserved better than this.
