Redskins signed SS Donte Whitner

to a one-year contract.

Whitner, 31, was released by the Browns in April. He's drawn inquiries from the Rams, Panthers, and Giants, but now finds a home in Washington where he'll reunite with GM Scot McCloughan. Whitner figures to immediately push SS David Bruton for the starting job. Bruton is PFF's No. 79 safety out of 81 qualifiers and is dead last in run support. Whitner is a hard-hitting box safety.
