Don’t look now, but I’m sensing a ‘new’ Sean McVay this offseason…

And the ‘newness’ is most welcome.

Some of the evidence in no particular order:

Higher energy, not just with Sean but with players and asst coaches.

Hiring of some pretty impressive assistant coaches, 11 newbies, I think. That’s a sea change.

Finally truly addressed roster holes this offseason in significant ways. Holes that existed in past seasons but were seemingly ignored.

Then there’s all those apparent philosophical changes leaning toward physicality. That’s a very welcome trend.

I know that this is gonna be a very young roster, believe me, but I foresee emerging talent, energy, and downright feistiness all very well coached.

Two things I’m sure of.

1. Rams are gonna surprise some other teams and virtually all of the pundits.

2. Rams will be fun to watch in 2023 as these youngsters develop.

I believe Sean McVay is ‘back’, so Buckle up, y’all.

I think this years roster is actually better than last years. I expect the Rams to come out smoking baby. O Line looks like a strength to me. We have more upfront on Defense than a lot of people think.

I agree with so much of this!!

I also think there's a "new Sean" that started to develop late last season and is a product of his process in figuring out how to be happy.

Dude is a coach. He's NOWHERE near done being a coach!! He just needed to get some perspective on work balance.. maybe address some things he needed in his support system... and just being dead honest with himself about how much he actually just loves football and coaching it.

I think a big... BIG part of it.. was learned when they got beat down.. and when he really jumped back into the basics of coaching when they got Baker. He just got to work getting the good out of what they had and in helping his players be the best version of themselves the they could be.

I think it really bodes well for the next few seasons.

McVay is evolving. He’s one smart dude that will only get better with experience. Sometimes the roster can’t handle the load. Sometimes injuries cripple a team. But succes always starts at the top snd the Rams are as solid at the top as any NFL team.

I don’t think it’s a new McVay. I think we were so loaded with talent, that he didn’t have to focus on coaching the small details as he did in years past, and once the injuries started, it showed in the young guns. This is McVay coaching the way he always had. This team is going to be far better than last year

Dude is one of the best coaches I have seen no joke, in regards to how he just goes with the flow and lets things come to him, good and bad. He is a top coach because of that, and because of his work ethic. As I put in another thread, I don't foresee us making the playoffs. But, I do think we will be way better than people think.

Do you know what happens to championship football teams? the have the tendency to become un coachable. And I think that was last years team to a certain extent. These young guys are totally coachable and smart.

Definitely hungrier with it being a younger roster wanting to prove themselves and then some vets likely have a chip on their shoulder with being written off and forgotten after one bad yr. Not to mention a coaching staff desperate to prove themselves and bounce back.

I don’t see any change in McVay, apart from the end of his ambiguity regarding his immediate future (which, like most things, was probably overblown by the media).

And I am still not 100% sure on that because if the Rams struggle out of the gate and face adversity again I would not be shocked steps down for personal reasons. I will watch it closely and I do like how they went about their business this year plus the upgrades on the coaching staff now hopefully the Rams will be competitive the young guys will grow and at the end of the year everyone will feel good about 2024.

McVay is evolving since he sees the 49ers as the Beast in the NFC West and wants physicality in the OL. And that is why the Rams drafted two heavy-set Guards in Avila and Bruss in back-to-back years.

Everything goes through the Niners because they are the most physical team in the NFC. And when the Rams beat the Niners in the NFC game in 2022, it was a foregone conclusion that they were going to win the Super Bowl LVI.

And with 2023 starting anew, Mc Vay is upbeat that he's got the hogs up front in the OL to Ram It Down on the Niners.

Look for this year with more power running plays by Akers, et al to set up play-action by Stafford.

The Rams are being overlooked now. But watch out, they will surprise a lot of teams.

1. If the Rams sniff .500 and show they’ve admirably filled a lot of their holes in the lineup It will be considered a good year.
2. The Super Bowl hangover is over. McVay knows it takes a lot to make a dent in the playoffs much less make it to a Super Bowl. They are on a 2 year build out not a one year turnaround.
3. McVay is a unicorn. Unicorns don’t lose their horn and run away. He’s got too much drive and pride to hang it up without another Super Bowl ring. He’s gonna find that horn again and proudly soar to his next adventure.

Maybe, however, I also believe that he might follow the path of the late Bill Walsh, who stated that Coaches shelf life with a team is 10 years. Now McVay is young enough to coach a long time, hopefully, that will be with the Los Angeles Rams, but with his first born looming on the horizon, his future concerns me for the present.
