I have no criticism of Morris' defense this season. What I find odd is that he didn't do better with the 2021 team with all that talent. But still no complaints because the defense was good enough to win the SB and tie the record for sacks in a SB.
I don't know your definition of "better". But it was not as good in 2021 as in 2020. But fair-minded folks need to remember teams had a chance to prepare for the Fangio-type scheme.
So it is a fair question to ask...The Rams were still not a bad defense. Good vs run, good at sacking QBs, picking off passes, a low defensive passer rating, among the best. Among the best at not giving up explosive plays. But they did give up a lot of passing yards--only 22nd in NFL.
What frustrated me was not those who wished it had been better vs the pass but the ones who called for Morris to be fired at midseason of 2021. Midseason.
Not saying that was you. It was not everyone, some people were fair but as a long-time Rams fan, I never got the hate. Still don't. It's like when the Rams won it and people (not saying you) still would not give him credit.
And it went further (again, not saying you, just responding in general as people do) they said he was stupid and scared or somehow incompetent.
But here are the Rams stats from 2021. If offense hadn't given up 2 points a game ... on pick sixes and such, plus two more turnovers inside the 10 that led to another two scores the scoring defense would have been top 5 ...
All of us have different ideas and beliefs, mine is that there was a massive overreaction to Morris as DC. Not even within the realm of fairness by some.
I reject that somehow he was stupid and scared in the 2021 regular season, smart and brave in the 2021 postseason, stupid and scared again last year, and now smart and brave. It's absurd.
But---because folks can take things the wrong way --- not saying that is you. Just replying in general about some folks who went over the line and not ones who ask fair questions and will be reasonable when given reasonable explanations.
