I am of the opinion the receiver room is very good and well blended between TE/WR/RB.

I believe McVay can't wait to put all these variations of receivers into operation not carrying if it does not fit the typical WR mode.

I agree and he has started to show this very trait.

If it doesn't fulfil his needs we will add a piece.

I am not concerned..................for now.................

Lot of potential at WR and TE but oddly the thing that might hold guys back is similar things (Mumpfield and Fergy gotta work on contested catches).

There's a perception Davante Adams isn't the young Davante Adams. Obviously true. But he still had 14 TDs last year, the second best of his career. And he missed 3 games!!! LED the NFL!! Brings to mind that old quote from Buddy Ryan dissing Chris Carter...."all he does is catch touchdowns". Stafford threw a lot of TDs last year and Adams caught 30% of them. Yards don't win football games. Points win football games.

I can't wait to see how those 4 under our top 2 compete. Xavier Smith had the third best YPC numbers on the team.....16.8....behind Ferguson, 21.0 and Tutu, 32.0. I like Konata and Whittington but they both averaged less than 10.0- per catch. Which is probably a reason Daniels excites some fans. The competition is going to be fun to watch.

Hell, preseason should be exciting. Simpson and those 4. It's one thing to put a product on the field that excites fans throughout the season. It's another to make them want preseason. Is it actually getting to be a better time to be a Rams fan???

Don’t believe Mcvay is looking for another WR.The Rams have enough depth there.

The TE’s will play the added TE at times while having more flexibility to expose defenses. It’s a EASY CONCEPT to SEE !! Open up your vision, plus understand GROWTH of RAM Players.

Just saying, but training camp is right around the corner.I’m sure there will be Reprts of Rams TE”s lining up out WIDE & taking Reps in drills.

I hope I’m wrong, but Xavier Smith had every opportunity to breakthrough last year both as a receiver and a returner. He did get an occasional long ball 18 receptions 300 yards 0 TDs and he was given the keys to WR3 by midyear just doesn’t impress.

I mostly agree that we know what we have in Whit and it is a solid WR in specific packages. Not a bad thing at all.
Mumps can hopefully take some steps to be a bigger part of the offense and that too would be a great benefit.
CJ seems to be the most polished and complete straight out of college but lots of road ahead before we know what we have.
I really like J.Whitt & Mumps (& even X.Smith), they have things that make them stand out. But CJ has what you can't teach: size.
And I'm not talking necessarily about height, weight, speed etc. but length and catch radius. The long striding I mentioned in the OP at 2:16 (or so)... he literally takes just under 3 strides to the other guys's 5 - 7 strides. Look how high his hips are. These small CB's are gonna look like they're running in sand next to him. And yes love the catch at 2:57 @gogoat1 -- an effortless, one-handed catch that's way outside his body. Now, it's not coming in hot like a Stafford pass, but I think this kid has the skills & raw ability to pass up some of the other WR3's. Remember, Puka wasn't on the roster very long until he was WR2 next to Kupp, then WR1. Not saying this kid is Puka or has any chance at WR2, but I'll be watching him in TC, because he's got potential.
Something else this kid has: hands. His U highlight vids are full of contested catches, and in the NFL you gotta come down w/ the ball, or else. It's something we see w/ Puka: if the ball is thrown at him, he's coming down with it, no matter what. I'm thinking we'll see some of that w/ CJ.
I'm not that familiar w/ the others on the depth chart (Edwards, Mario, Presley) but there's some reason they didn't rise past the guys I listed above over the last year or so. But CJ just seems so much more determined to prove himself--you could tell he was expecting to get taken a lot sooner in the draft. And here he is, posting a workout session, and wearing the horns to show that he's all in on being a Ram.
Maaan is it TC yet??? time is just creepin' along.

I'm not looking to be "impressed". Expecting a heavy dose of 12 and 13P, I'm looking at those 4 and hoping (as many are) that 1 can fill in if Adams or Puka get dinged. Or 2 can combine to fill in for one of them. The rest of the time, I'm fine with complimentary performances. Running the routes correctly. Catching the few balls headed their way. 280 of Stafford's 597 attempts went to Puka and Davante (47%). Another 106 went to Kyren and Parkinson. And the other 6 receivers; 3 TE, 3 WR; were targeted from 23 to 36 times. Higbee 36; Allen 33; Ferguson 25; Whittington 25, Xavier 24 and Mumpfield 23. It certainly looks like an even, designed approach. Look for the big 4 and spread the rest among the other 6. I don't believe a guy can "impress" with so little target share. But that's fine.

If the team doesn't see a need for a #3 wide out now and stands pat, I wouldn't be too concerned.
The TE's are looking like they will be more involved in the passing game, and they always have until the trade deadline to make a move if they decide that's what's needed.

I wouldn’t go that far as to his playing time ? I don’t see him as WR 3 either. Whittington is a player who imo will surprise over X Smith & Mumpfield is who Adams is mentoring. He calls him the prodigy.

Anyways agree Xaiver Smith is all that & imo is going to have to battle for a spot on the 53.Adding I believe The Rams are going to carry as 1 less WR & 5 TE’s.

I’m not sure there will be enough targets for the WRs after Adams and Nacua to be able to say anybody is clearly the #3.

Parkinson has been lost in these discussions but was, statistically, the #3 guy by the end of the season.

Ferguson had big numbers for so few receptions.

Mumpfield was targeted enough last year to be in the running this season.

I don’t see Whittington ever being that critical to the offense. He has a role and plays well enough, but I don’t see it growing all that much. He might even be vulnerable in this camp.

…but I’m willing to bet a TE will emerge as a true weapon this year and again be the #3 receiver when it’s all said and done.

Ferguson was the 4th most targeted tight end, 7th most targeted skill player. We gotta believe, with his draft slot and production when targeted, increasing that will be a priority. That would make him the emerging TE you speak of. And I gotta believe, it would make this offense more deadly.

I know I'll get a lot of hate for this, but Deebo. He's a McVay type who plays fearless with great RAC and can still play at a #2 or #1 level in an emergency.

I’d feel a lot better if we added someone like Deebo, Diggs, Allen… a June cut, etc. Put me in the camp not sold we have a #3 that can step up to #2.

Puka gets beat up. Maybe the plan is TE’s in his spot if he’s out? IDK.

His size and hands are NFL worthy. His separation skills, IDK. His college highlights are filled with a lot of contested catches that NFL DB’s might be all over.

I think he’s a role player, but yeah he’s probably at his ceiling.

I like CJ Daniels potential. I think he has a higher ceiling than Whittington or Mumpfield. My concern is, there's usually a reason a guy isn't picked until the 6th round. But McVay wanted him enough to trade up for him to make sure someone else didn't pick him. I remember how badly he wanted Puka when it was getting close to their turn. So who knows? He saw something in Puka. Maybe he sees something in Daniels.

This by 1000. If either of our 2 receivers go down, McVay will be dramatically limited in what lineups he can put out there.

Defenses will be able to game plan the 3 TEs formation. May not help knowing McVay but I still want to see a Number 3 WR step up to be a Number 2 receiver if one of them goes down.
